The reason the Eagles got so many big plays was because McNabb was very tough to bring down and could evade the first two pass rushers. Kolb isn't half as mobile or tough to bring down. I don't think he has the arm strength either.

Unless they turn those picks into some impact players, I don't see this as an upgrade for either team really.

Someone point it out to me when Kolb became great.

Same thing I was wondering. He doesn't have the arm strength to get the ball deep down the field to his burners, he doesn't have the pocket presence and strength that McNabb had to evade rushers, and its not like he's ever been battle tested in the league.

Philly's arrogance will bite them here, trust me.

The Eagles/Commanders trade makes a lot of sense for both teams. First, The Eagles weren't going to resign McNabb for $100,000,000.00 next year when his contract expired, so they got something in return for him this year and next year. The Commanders werent going to be able to compete this year without a veteran, so they went out and got one.

Second, if Washington wants to pay McNabb to be its franchise QB for the next 5 years, it can do so THIS YEAR without a huge risk because there is no cap this year. It can structure his contract in such a way that his cap hit is quite marginal after this year, if it chooses to.

The Commanders defense is pretty darn good already. If the offense were to significantly improve (especially via the run) and maintain a little bit better time of possession, then the defense stays fresher and better in theory.

I think McNabb has a tendency to slough off a little bit when he isn't pressed, but he can play at a high level with a chip on his shoulder. I think McNabb thinks he can win in DC.

Mike Vick can beat out Kolb for the starting QB position if the Eagles decide to keep him which now is a safe bet. Vick and Kolb don't worry me one iota. I am more impressed by Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco moreso than the aforementioned QBs.

The Commanders with Shanahan/McNabb win the first game vs the Cowboys in 2009 and are probably a 9-10 win team with the crazy easy schedule.

The Commanders will fill the huge LT void via the draft (Okung, Bulagua, some trade down who knows) and are clearly upgraded at the QB spot over Campbell and the HC spot over Zorn.

The division stacks up like this for me

Cowboys
Eagles/Commanders
Giants

With the teams finishing within 3 games of each other

How are the Eagles better? They are worse off going to an unknown. Kolb played well vs. the Chiefs and had no choice but to air out vs. the Saints because they lost that game by 26. The Eagles are not contending for any div next year. They are rebuilding and will be lucky to win 8 games.

wow taking a whole bunch of liberties I see.

Please explain to me how mcnabb wins you that game when he couldnt put points on the board with the eagles in 3 attempts against us.

and I am confused how are you going to beat the giants again? They own you?

mcnabb is going to improve alot of things along with shanahan, but teams win not individuals.

and mcnabb loves to hold the ball and look for all the intermediate and deep routes, at least he always has in philly....if he plays the same way I cant really see that as a positive with your current state up front.

Thanks for starting this thread.

We all needed your insight on this.

At least as much as this board needs any of your posts on any topic.

As for the OP i'm not sold on Kolb yet. He flashed some stuff but he did so in a game where NO easily handled the Eagles and didn't really care what Kolb was doing and then against a very, very, very poor KC secondary. So I'm not sure that he showed anything in those two situations that would make me immediately believe he's going to be a big time player.

He could wind up being but I'm not yet sold on that.

Kolb still has to go through the on the field learning curve that all NFL QB's must face. He is far from being great. He is a prospect at best and will be under the same pressure as Matt Leinart. Hell, he will be under more pressure then Leinart because of the city he plays in. It will be a tough year for Kolb and the Eagles will win 8 games at best.

I for one like this turn of events.
It makes the Deadskins a little better And weakens the Philthy Eagles.
This should give Dallas a two game Division lead in the East...12-4

McNabb did put up more then 6 points against you in all his meetings vs the Cowboys this year :)

The team does win, and Shanahan is making this his team. He now has his short term QB and isn't risking his Commanders stint on an unproven rookie QB.

Its clear they were not sold on Claussen and either weren't sold on, or were unwilling to pay the price to get Bradford.

McNabb is a far superior QB to Jason Campbell, Shanahan a far superior coach to Zorn, and this puts the Commanders into the wild card discussion.

You have both these guys on the Commanders last year, you are talking about a 10 win team with the pathetic schedule we had

You think the addition of McNabb is good for 4 extra wins? He's good, but he's not that good.

Commanders are better, bottom line.

They're better if they seriously upgrade a very poor line and I'm not talking about just 1 offensive line move. They need to make several in order to make that O-Line even an average one.

Then they're going to have to find an actual quality WR. They do not have one of those right now. Moss is ok but often injuried and isn't the answer.

And Portis must return to form because if the Skins really think they can rely on Johnson or Parker to magically return to form after injury plagued seasons lately they're going to be sorely mistaken.

Unless those other things change drastically as well this is not going to be a noticably better team.

:hammer:

Both teams have Oline issues, unless they fix their fatboys, we will destroy both QBs when we see them.
