But you don’t watch every NFL game so your brain doesn’t have all the information. It’s an early report card.

You know historically what things have looked like so likely have a fair idea of how things will finish up but this tells you stuff like Stafford, and Dak are MVP contenders while Rothsberger is cooked. It’s up to you to decipher whose a pretender on the list and who has legitimately improved or adapted well to their new environment.
Thank You

And the deeper in the year they go, the more we will know.

But it is still only for this year.

Lamar Jackson won this thing easily during his MVP year (but I suspect he may never again)
Matt Ryan won this thing in his MVP year too, in a close race with Brady and Rodgers...both better players. (no chance Ryan ever repeats)
Mahomes won it in his MVP year.
Rodgers won this easily last year, and also won MVP. But he's up there every year
Wilson is always near the top as well.

"I" don't THINK anything.

These are stats, they are not exact.
Different schedules, early season, etc.

Have you watched Cousins in all 4 games?
He probably HAS outplayed Rodgers so far this year if you include that horrific game by Rodgers in New Orleans...which is 1/4 of his games so far.

That will take a couple of weeks to dilute, stats-wise.

Of course he's the better player. And by the end of year....as always...he will finish the rankings at the top of the league or very near it.

It does not at all mean he is the better player.

Well then thank you for posting a completely meaningless ranking that has no bearing on who the best players are.

Keep that coming.

Yes. If you believe that Kirk Cousins is better than Aaron Rodgers and Taylor Heinicke is better than Josh Allen.

Thread destroyed. Close it.
We’re only 4 weeks in and Rodgers had a terrible week 1. As did Josh Allen. This list will balance out in the end.

I mean going off that positions play..Yeah Cousins has outplayed alot of QB's so far....I dont dont trust it but can not deny what has hppened so far
in real life. Just like Murray I did not believe he was a top QB but to say he is not so far THIS YEAR would be blindly ignoring what has actually happened on the field.

Someday, I'll go back and see how Staubach, Meredith, White finished in some of their top years.
Since it compares apples to apples---no crossing eras---it should hold up well.

I know Roger finished high several times (and probably 1st overall a couple of them) but I'm guessing some of the others may be snuck into the top 5 a time or two as well?

Romo was top 5 several times in his 8 seasons starting---even in an era with Peyton, Brees, Brady, Ben, Rodgers, Rivers and tail-end of Favre and McNabb.
I think it was 4 of the 8 years.. Never 1st....but so close in 2014 behind MVP Rodgers. Early season game or two cost him....lol.
What a waste

Very long ways to go.

The trend is looking good for Dak though.

He finished
  • 14th in 2018
  • 8th in 2019 (or 9th depending on who is included)
  • Currently 5th.....

We're now 4 weeks in. Still very early, but more than we had last week.

FOR YOU OVER REACTORS
This does NOT say which QB is the best.....ONLY how they have played so far this year in the first 4 games.

Just a reminder that in these weekly postings, "Combined Stats" just means using two stats that --when combined--almost always point to the QBs having the best season (and the eventual All-Pros, MVPs etc)

Those stats are:
1) Standard QB Passer rating
2) Total TDs (Rushing and Passing) - Total Turnovers (Fumbles lost and Interceptions)

Here are the QB Rankings using Combined Stats after 4 weeks:

  1. Mahones
  2. Wilson
  3. Stafford
  4. Murray
  5. Prescott
  6. Cousins
  7. Winston
  8. Brady
  9. Rodgers (Tie 9)
  10. Heinike (Tie 9)
  11. Burrow (Tie 9)
  12. Bridgewater
  13. Hurts
  14. Allen
  15. Herbert
  16. Carr
  17. Darnold
  18. D Jones
  19. Ryan
  20. Garopollo
  21. Goff
  22. Wentz
  23. Mayfield
  24. Jackson
  25. Tannehill
  26. M Jones
  27. Roethlisberger
  28. Dalton
  29. Lawrence
  30. Wilson
I left out Taylor, Lock, Brissett, Fields, Mills, Lance due to lack of data.

Here are the rankings after just 3 weeks

As expected, Dak, Rodgers, Murray, Herbert have all moved up
Here were last weeks rankings if anyone is curious about the movers
Dak a top 5 qb in the NFL?
Sounds about right.

Playing great.
In fact, I just looked.....he and Mahomes are tied for 1st instead 1 & 2.
  • Mahomes is 1st in Total TD-turnovers with 11 (Wilson is 2nd with 10)
  • Wilson is 1st in PR (Mahomes 2nd).

Yes he is, and with that D he should have his best stats season, more catch up games.

With Wilson getting injured and having a rough game, plus Stafford not being extra-special on Thursday, they might slide a spot or two this week.

Of course, stating the obvious, winning is the bottom line.

I’ve always said Stafford was so underrated. He’s playing excellent football. Never expected top five. But happy for him
