This is purely speculative and will give us a thread to throw down some names. This is a thread to throw out some names that currently do not have any ties to the cowboys. With a gust of wind taking out two of the RBs during OTAs someone needs to keep a watch....might as well be me...:) Yesterday reading through the wire I read this:

ESPN Broncos reporter Jeff Legwold expects Ronnie Hillman to open training camp on the roster bubble.
Legwold goes so far as to predict Hillman will indeed be cut, leaving C.J. Anderson, Montee Ball, and Juwan Thompson as Denver's top-three backs. Still only 23 years old -- he turns 24 in September -- Hillman reportedly struggled to pick up Gary Kubiak's zone-blocking system at spring practices. He has a near-minimum salary and would generate a lot of interest on waivers. Jul 24 - 1:54 PM

Another guy clearly on the roster bubble;

Terrance West appeared to surrender reps to Duke Johnson and Shaun Draughn during OTAs and minicamp.

The Browns have said they want to ride the hot hand at running back this season. It's going to be very difficult for West to get that hot hand if he's fourth in line behind Isaiah Crowell, Johnson and Draughn. West had a rocky rookie year, often looking average on the field and getting in the coaches' doghouse off it. The Browns used a third-round pick on Johnson in May.
Related: Shaun Draughn, Duke Johnson

Montee Ball might be another option. CJ Anderson looks to have sewn up the starting role there. If the Broncos really like Juwan Thompson and think Hillman or another back can handle the #3 role, they might be willing to move on from Ball? And the Broncos look to have a big need at TE while the Cowboys look to have a surplus there.

Good point I would be a little shocked if they gave up on Ball though.

Terrance West would be an intriguing guy to add. He had some very nice moments last year.

Nice! He would move up to number one potential add for me. I really liked him coming out of college.

I'm debating folks elsewhere if they would trade Escobar for him straight up and results are mixed. What's your opinion?

No question. While Escobar has the potential he isn't going to see any valuable time on the field until Witten retires. Which will most likely won't happen for another three years.

That's my thinking too. And, given the apparent glut of TE's on the current roster, I wouldn't have a problem trading from a position of strength to try to improve a position of weakness.

They are also in the need for OL help and I think specifically at guard...could be wrong there. What did you think of the Gus signing...I like it. I know you like CJ but I like this kid.

He sure looks like a workhorse! And his numbers steadily improved each year which is a good sign for me. I like him as a roster replacement for the power element that I had hoped that Ryan Williams would bring. Looking forward to some early training camp reports on him.

Me to and not getting ahead but hey I am pumped for this season. He was signed by Oakland right after the draft so the cowboys must have had an eye on him to bring him in so soon. I just want the running game to mirror last year.

I want somebody to be the guy running behind this great offensive line.

There is the opportunity of a lifetime for a running back to excel running behind this group.

I just don't want to see them waiting around for anyone to step up. That onus needs to be clearly communicated to the current group, and I think this quick cut of Ryan Williams makes it clear if it wasn't already.

Good news here imo...he was done before he beat his wife.

he Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the Cowboys have "no interest" in free agent Ray Rice.

The Cowboys have been speculatively connected to Rice and Chris Johnson, but ESPN's Todd Archer previously tweeted those links are being made by "everybody but the Cowboys." Per the Star-Telegram's Charean Williams, the Cowboys "haven't ruled out signing a vet back, but not for at least a couple weeks." They want to see how Joe Randle, Darren McFadden, and Lance Dunbar look early in camp.

I think he could find a niche here. Due to his running style I think he has a good shot at beating Dunbar. He wont beat out Randle, but he could be good enough to account for 100 plus tough carries.

I haven't seen much tape on him honestly but what I have read on him, he may lack the ability on the perimeter and in pass pro to be an every down runner

Exactly. It would have been like the Raiders signing MJD last year. No gas left
