In the free agents Suh would be nice but we can sign 2-3 of these guys for the same price. Fairley and Hughes then grab Hardy on incentive based. That gives us DLaw, Draft pick, Hardy and Hughes on the end. Great rotation

This would be the smartest way to spend your money.

You really think we are going to sign Hardy, Fairley and Hughes? That seems pretty crazy to me.

I don't BUT if the option was getting Fairley, Hardy and Hughes over Suh? Give me the former. That's the type of signings we need. Not just invest in one big money guy.

save ur money-get hardy and then 1 of mcphee or sheard (both should be cheaper than hughes) then draft goldman or malcom brown and forget about nick fairley-theres a reason the lions didnt take up his 5th year option and theres a reason there dline didnt decline when fairley went down

Believe me, that was never an option

Yeeeaaaah, gotta agree with bkight on this one and It's kind of a no-brainer lol. No offense Irvin88, but this notion where we sign Greg Hardy, Nick Fairley, and Jerry Hughes is nothing short of what we like to call a PIPE DREAM, and a BIG *** one at that lol. Don't get me wrong, I have been a BIG advocate of signing Greg Hardy in FA as long as he can agree to an incentive-laden deal that could end up garnering Hardy top-5 DL money if he fulfills the incentives. That being said, YOUR strategy of signing Hardy in addition to Fairley AND Jerry Hughes is downright impossible BUT again, this is JMHO, crazier things have happened...

I'd love Greg Hardy but I think he probably ruffled too many feathers with that whole thing. Especially with all the stuff JWitt does with domestic abuse issues, hard for me to imagine you're going to have the poster boy for activism against domestic abuse and Greg Hardy in the same locker room. I can't see the future but that's my opinion.

I think we're going to look hard at JPP to see what his numbers end up being. The guy is a legitimate blue chipper when he's healthy, the problem is "when" he's healthy. I literally have no idea what he'll command but if he can come to Dallas and play up to his talent level, people will take notice.

I like Suh and really want him, I just think he's going to cost too much money. I hate the salary cap.

Good point about witten but the facts are vague in Hardy's case,we will see how the court case goes.

I could see the Cowboys signing someone like Stephen Paea who played under Marinelli in Chicago. He's a liability in run support, but he's a damn good interior pass rusher so I would check in on him if I was Jerry. Greg Hardy would be interesting for a possible "1-year show me deal", but not sure if he's a RKG for Garrett. Brandon Graham, Pernell McPhee or Jabaal Sheard would be good signings IMO if the Boys don't want to break the bank on someone like JPP or Suh. I'd say a combination of Paea, Hardy and Graham/McPhee/Sheard plus a draft pick or two would improve the line drastically.

Think they'd be more likely to look at and possibly attempt to sign guys like.....

- DE Jabaal Sheard (averaged 55 tackles & 8 sacks as a 4-3 DE in his rookie & 2nd year)
- DE Jerry Hughes
- DT Jared Odrick (could make a nice 3 tech tandem with Crawford...essentially replacing Melton)
- DE Adrian Clayborn (showed his potential in 2011 & 2013...injury plagued in 2012 & 2014...still younger)
- DT Nick Fairly
- DE Brandon Graham
- DE Brian Orakpo (perhaps on a prove it type deal...40 sacks in basically 4 1/2 seasons despite injuries)
- DT Stephen Paea (could replace Hayden...had 6 sacks in 2014...familiarity with Marinelli)

I think guys like Suh, JPP and Hardy, aren't real possibilities. Not sure Suh even hits the market. Mayhew (GM) and Jim Caldwell (HC), have already said Suh is a high priority for them. Mayhew has said the $26+ mil. franchise tag is even an option for Suh. JPP has already stated he wants to 'get paid'. Love Hardy's talent...but not his troubles. Think the Boys(among other teams), may feel the same way. League & legal issues would seemingly make him less of a possibility.

I love Ro's physical nature, etc. But I'd be careful in terms of any kind of longer term deal and the guaranteed money. I might actually slightly favor resigning Durant & Carter...and then looking at guys like Denzel Perryman, Eric Kendricks, etc. in the draft. Depending on money, perhaps they'll be able to retain all 3?

I think Fairley can be had for cheaper than what people here are saying. He has a reputation of being in Suh's shadow.

Nice thread, good stuff. I prefer not to go after Suh, nor JJP. But wouldn't complain with ether one or both.

As for Suh, because contract would be huge, as for JJP, does he still have back injury issues. Plus he wants a big contract too. That money better spent keeping our own guys. And can still find other FA's.

Come March and actual beginning of FA. And see how a thread will change, once these players are resigned by their teams. But good to speculate.

You gotta have a Plan A, B, C, D and so on.

Like you said, things change quickly and you can't count on anyone being available to you in FA or the Draft

Martin was probably our 4th or 5th choice last year in the draft after Beckham, Shazier, Donald, Barr and Manziel. But we did our homework and stayed put and picked a player that may be the best out of all of them

Some of these guys will leave, some will re-sign with their old team, some may never even come for a visit, but you gotta stay active and flexible. Thank goodness we are in a great position with the cap and can sign anyone we want, including our own guys

I've seen JPP's name mentioned a lot this week. Not sure why. His best years are in the rear view mirrow.

He had 12.5 sacks this year. He doesn't have to be what he once was to still be better than what the Cowboys have now.

Being a big name he will likely get overpaid, but at the right price he is a good player to have on the team.
