Cut'm all. Take as much of a cap hit in 22 as we can so Payton has some room to start the rebuild in 23....
that is the best move jerry can make. clear the dead wood. but unfortunately jerry likes stars he picked.

Moving away from the Sean Payton talk, let's try to project which veterans could be cut in the offseason and have a follow up discussion on projecting whom they resign.

Potential Veteran Cuts

Zeke-he isn't going anywhere this offseason, but there is an out in his contract after next yr. It would be wise not to restructure his deal.

Amari Cooper-there is an out in his contract this offseason. I believe they save 16 million if released. You would think the decision is to keep Cooper or pay Gallup and Wilson.

Collins-there is an out in his contract as well. Believe it's upwards of over 10 million in savings. With the emergence of Steele, you would think Collins has played his last game in Dallas.

Tyron Smith-extremely frustrating player. When he plays, he is still a top 5 Tackle in this league, but he cannot be counted on to play more then 10 games a year. Think until he plays falls off, they will continue to manage him.

DLaw-there is no chance he plays on the 27 million cap number this season. He missed the majority of the season and is now over 30. Either they look to rework his contract or he will be released. Did say after the 49ers game, he doesn't back to come back. In the heat of the moment, but it is very possible he is done here.

Nobody is getting cut with the success we had this year. Management is not going to touch the team chemistry. Now, there will be restructures and free agents that won't be back.
D-Law, L. Collins, T. Smith, Zeke, Cooper will all be back for 2022. All bets are of in 2023.

Of all the guys Amari seems most likely to not be on the team. Something there rubbed leadership the wrong way this season. If there's good trade value there, I expect the Cowboys to make a move. This is also a pretty good WR free agent class. I didn't want to jettison Cooper, but if you could bring back Gallup and sign a Christian Kirk for less money combined is that a better combo than Cooper and Ceedee?

Tyron and Lawrence may be approached about restructures or paycuts. Personally though I think Jerry believes this team is close and he's not interested in another rebuild. He'll do what he needs to keep most of the team together where it makes sense even if that means kicking the can down the road.

The "narrative " is that Tyron is a top 5 LT. IMHO, he's not. When on occasion he does play, he gets beat sometimes and has stupid holding penalties. Holding happens when the T gets beat. Tyron is no Chaz Green but he still isn't top 10

Been saying this for years, everyone says he's good, he's good at times but man I've seen him get beat easily so many times. Not the same player, aging

I wouldn't even consider parting with our #1 WR, he's needed. They could find better options than that.

Nobody wants to get rid of Amari. But when the team is 40 million over the projected cap, sacrifices must be made.

Jerry sent signals all season that Amari was out of favor and it probably had everything to do with their intention to release him.

R,
I think the DLaw/Cooper decisions could be tied to fa's. Do they keep Cooper over Gallup/Wilson? Same could be said about Gregory. Agree, the others should be safe at least for another yr.

Yep gotta move on even if it costs done in the short term.
Management has done a good job managing the cap, outside of the way they handled both Dak and Zeke's contracts. They have the flexibility to keep the majority of their own, but still need to make a few tough decisions.

That sounds about right......who ya replacing DLaw with?

Check this out.....

They could potentially keep both if they are able to restructure DLaw's deal, it also maybe tied to who they hire as the new DC. If they run more of a 3-4, might be the time to move on from DLaw all together.

If the worst case scenario happens and DLaw is gone, you would think they sign a veteran and draft a future starter.

This is an absurd opinion with no basis. Steele did not "emerge". He was an upgrade over previous back-up tackles but he still stunk and was our worst offensive lineman last year. You might not like PFF, but they are excellent at grading OL and nobody does it better. Steele is not in the same ballpark as La-El Collins in terms of talent or performance. 10M for a top tier OT is a BARGAIN. You cannot assume injury when making these decisions. If La'El doesn't have any major surgeries coming up, there is no reason to assume he can't start the season healthy.

Agree with what you are saying, but it will depend if Philbin remains the OL coach. Offense was at it's best this yr, in the span when Steele was covering for Collins when he was on suspension. Clearly they like Steele, will he just become a key reserve?

Re: ...It helps Steele to have double team help, chip help, scheme help and committed to running the ball - less exposure

Whereas this tactic helped Steele become a decent fill in, - the lack of development with Steele at LT, .failures of both the Conners, Dak running for his life and having to quickly get the ball out vs rush so often and the lack of a run game, doesn't hold well for Philibin as an OL coach, ..he and this particular zone scheme wasn't an upgrade over Columbo's scheme and his OL unit performance.

Lawrence and cooper simply aren’t worth the money. If we can move on and get huge savings that can be used elsewhere then we should. Jarwin and brown we should definitely move on.
