Never had a flu shot in my life and never will. The stuff in Flu shots is nasty.
I understand why most people get a shot.

But I quit getting flu shots in 1988
The last time I had the flu was 1986
So 26 years with no flu and no shot

Every single year during that time, I've known at least a few who people who got the shot and the flu.
It's a numbers games,I understand. But very highly ineffective vs what the claims say it is...and many very bright doctors say terrible for you long term.

But again, I understand why CDC and schools push it, because it potentially reduces the odds of a wider spread epidemic.

My two best friends in Dallas are doctors...both agree it's highly ineffective, the radiologist who had no direct patient contact never gets the shot. The other one who had patient contact does....but only for legal reasons.

Also have two doctors in my immediate family....again, one says yes and one says no way.

The Pharma companies do make 100s of millions though, so smile if any of you work there...lol

Most allergic reactions shouldn't be enough to put someone out of a game 4 days later with adequate medical treatment unless it was some sort of an anaphylactic emergency. If it were I think we'd have heard about him being in hospital so I doubt it is that serious.

It sounds like there is a good chance he should be playing then.

But we should still fire Eatman for getting on the plane with the flu as the team heads for a playoff game the next week.

They should fire Eatman just for being terrible at his job. This should just force the issue to happen now.

What's wrong with Eatman? He doesn't bother me as much as Steve Dennis. Can't stand him.

Never had the flu shot.

Never had the flu.

People need to understand that sort of evidence is bunk. Most people won't get the flu in any single season. So stringing together a bunch of flu free years isn't an anomoly or evidence of an amazing immune system.

A simple shot to up the chances of avoiding the flu again. A real no brainer

I have one the worst immune systems as I am battling Lymphoma again for the second time, but I will never take a flu shot as many people have had things go bad with this shot, including being paralyzed and other serious ailments.

I said if you are susceptible and/or have a weak immune system then the vaccine won't be much help, that is proven. The young and elderly should take it as a precaution but if you are a healthy adult, it isn't the end of the world if you don't get the vaccine.

They mutate so fast, so the vaccines are for different strains. It is a great preventive tool for those that are unhealthy. The latest study shows that the vaccine is effective about 77% better but that is for a healthy adult, not elderly or children.

I am no doc like you but I have taken my fair share of microbiology classes from undergrad to med school giving me a pretty good understanding of this :)

I guess that I am still old school where we used to play outside as kids, get nails stuck in our feet and scratched from fences where we built our immune systems. My generation never took shots for this and most other stuff and we can fight off most colds and the flu

As I said there are strains which are more deadly to the healthy. Not many people should avoid it although it is not 100% effective. Even if you get the flu chances are the vaccine will ameliorate your disease. But a lot of people still don't take the shot.

Hey man. What can I day. I don't get sick. Like ever.

Trying my best to get the flu. Would like to see what it feels like.

In all seriousness 5-20% of Americans get the flu everywhere. Let's assume the real likelihood is 12.5% (again this is very simplistic for descriptive purposes). So I have a 87.5% chance of not getting the flu every year. The likelihood I made it 29 years and didn't get the flu...by chance...is around 2%.

Do you feel lucky?

You referenced an example that is nearly 100 years old.

I got my flu shot this year. I still woke up one night vomiting.

Coincidentally, it was the week Tyron missed practice because he was vomiting too. Interesting...

No. I'm just pointing to actual scientific facts rather than moronic 'well I never got sick' logic

Yes, and we've seen the same reaction since just not as deadly on such a wide scale. If you're interested in the topic here is a very basic introductory primer for the non-medical individual: http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/1918flupandemic.htm

I only got a degree in Biomedical Engineering so I do appreciate the dumbed down version.

What I didn't appreciate was you using the most deadly flu epidemic in human history as some sort of guideposts.

Humans had apparently never before encountered that strain of influenza which lead to it infecting almost 5 percent of the entire human population. Not something a flu shot would prevent as we are targeting known strains. So again not helpful in this discussion.
