We are starting to get a good idea of the players on the bubble, both good and bad. The big theme of the offseason has been that this team has real depth, now we are looking at losing some players in the final cuts (or hopefully some minor trades).

Dallas has a history of developing good players on their practice squad, Ron Leary and Dewayne Harris became good players after a year of PS time. This year we have some real talent that could develop as well. They generally pick the PS by position, I’m thinking we have a lot of good candidates:

DL: out of candidates like Joe Jackson, Jalen Jelks, Ricky Walker and Daniel Wise, we will give us a PS chock full of DL goodness.

LB: Luke Gifford and Justin Phillips could easily end up on the 53, but should be on the PS if not.

CB: One of Mike Jackson or Donovan Olumba.

S: I think Donovan Wilson makes the 53 but if they do trade a DL/OL for a Safety he could end up on the PS.

QB: Maybe Mike White, just because he knows the system and has a live arm. Maybe.

RB: I’ve never been a big fan of Darius Jackson but he could make the squad this year and push Weber to the PS.

WR: Jon’Vea Johnson and Guyton. I don’t think Reggie Davis is eligible.

TE: Codey McElroy is a perfect candidate

OL: Are Mitch Hyatt or Brandon Knight good enough to develop or do you find a project off another team?

Hate the idea of exposing Jelks to waivers...he'll get claimed. But we are so loaded @ DE....so somebody has gotta go.

Another guy I'd like to hang on to...Darian Thompson....not sure if there is room on the team.

I haven't been impressed w/ any of the RBs to be honest....including Pollard. Guy runs way too high...and won't last as a full time back. Pass blocking needs improvement.

Mike Jackson or Donovan Olumba...will be interesting to see how this plays out. Personally...I think I might keep both and cut Anthony Brown.

Would Rush clear waivers? There is so little QB talent in the NFL I would have to think someone claims him.

I think he would...guy I'd take a look @ if he's cut loose by the Giants...QB Kyle Lauletta. I think he could be a guy Moore could mold.

A gamble I’d risk. And if Rush got plucked, just sign another castoff to the PS. It’s not like Cooper Rush is some golden commodity.

We need another project OT. So far Mitch Hyatt is a turnstile that makes Chaz Green look like Erik Williams in his prime.

I don't know why the Cowboys are even putting him out there. He's almost gotten Rush and White in a body cast these first two preseason games.

I can see defensive talent poor teams plucking both Jacksons, and Jelk off waivers just because they were draft picks and they may be willing to carry them on the 53 because of upside

I’d cut White, have Garrett, Moore and Kitna identify a veteran backup who they feel could reasonably play QB2 in our system, find a way to acquire said vet, and then bump Rush to the PS.
I wouldn't waste a pick or any other tradable asset on a backup QB.

Rush is on the 53. From last preseason to this one he looks like one of the most improved players on the roster.
Improved how?

Rush has played a handful of snaps in 3 NFL games over 2017-18...and his only passing stats (3atts, 1cmp) came in 2017.

It’s obvious he’s not being developed for anything other than emergencies, so taking him off the 53 and putting him on the PS makes sense.

We need a QB2 with a bit more experience.

Last preseason Rush was an absolute mess. This year it looks like he's more decisive with his reads. The ball is coming out of his hands quicker and he looks more accurate.

The problem now is all the QB's worth having on a roster are already signed. If somebody good becomes available on cutdown day that has more arm and more experience than Rush, then by all means Dallas should go get him.

My point is I feel a little better about Rush now than I did twelve months ago.

Agree with that but, my point is, Rush isn’t likely to get much experience backing up Dak.

However, we need a QB2, just in case (heaven forbid and knock on wood) Dak goes down for multiple games.

Would rather have someone already on the roster (an aging vet, an experienced recent cut, even a QB who’s been out of the game for a year) with some meaningful NFL experience, who would be on the roster and learning the system, than to have to suddenly depend on Rush or an emergency vet acquisition, should an injury strike.

Joe Jackson should make the 53.

Jelks is interesting, but they have to try to get him to the practice squad.

LB: Luke Gifford and Justin Phillips could easily end up on the 53, but should be on the PS if not.
I would move Gifford to IR.

CB: One of Mike Jackson or Donovan Olumba.
I would not cut Mike Jackson.

Olumba looked decent but I'm not certain if he has the speed to ever be a starting NFL CB.

S: I think Donovan Wilson makes the 53 but if they do trade a DL/OL for a Safety he could end up on the PS.
Wilson should definitely make the 53.

QB: Maybe Mike White, just because he knows the system and has a live arm. Maybe.
I would look for another developmental QB if they're going to keep one on the PS.

RB: I’ve never been a big fan of Darius Jackson but he could make the squad this year and push Weber to the PS.
I prefer Weber but Jackson does do some things well. He has looked good as a receiver and better as a runner than last year.

WR: Jon’Vea Johnson and Guyton. I don’t think Reggie Davis is eligible.
J.Johnson and Guyton to the ps.

TE: Codey McElroy is a perfect candidate
Agree.

Good enough for the PS but not the 53; although that always depends on other available options.

Is he even eligible for the practice team after 2 full years on the 53?

As far as needing a QB#2 goes I think well cross that bridge when it comes. Meaning Dak will have to be out for an extended period of time in order for us to go after a vet.

Gee, I'm happy you didn't have Parcells' ear back when Bledsoe was our QB.
