Practice Squad Candidates

My practice squad....

OT-Hyatt.
OG-Redmond.
RB-Chunn.
WR-Davis.
WR-Guyton.
TE-McElroy.
QB-Mike White.
CB-Olumba.
DE-Jelks.
DT-Walker.

RB: I’ve never been a big fan of Darius Jackson but he could make the squad this year and push Weber to the PS.
I prefer Weber but Jackson does do some things well. He has looked good as a receiver and better as a runner than last year.

I had high hopes for Jackson when he was drafted but didn't think a lot of him after his first preseason. But he has clearly improved this year, especially catching the ball.

OG-Redmond.
RB-Chunn.
WR-Davis.

I don't think Redmond and Davis are eligible. Redmond was on a PS for 2.5 years and a 53 man roster for another 1.5. Redmond was our 4th string OG who only signed after guys like Ehlinger got hurt, I would really think the roster will be better this year than having a spot for Redmond.

The PS is for developmental guys and not a 5th year guy like Redmond, my picture of the last week of camp is something like this:

Funny image. But there is a way a team can keep a guy on the practice squad for a third year. And the practice squad isn't all about development. There are certain positions, on the field, where you want a guy who's been in your system for a awhile to be ready, incase of multiple injuries. The offensive line is one of those positions.

And stop driving me to the nut house. :banghead:

It's hard to say who the PS candidates are. Many of them are getting too exposed and won't clear waivers.

It appears that Redmond only has 1 accrued season (min 6 game on 53 to accrue a season).

They can have up to 4 ps players with 2 accrued seasons. All others must have 1 or zero.

I stand by my animated Simpsons GIF.

Hate the idea of exposing Jelks to waivers...he'll get claimed. But we are so loaded @ DE....so somebody has gotta go.

Another guy I'd like to hang on to...Darian Thompson....not sure if there is room on the team.

I haven't been impressed w/ any of the RBs to be honest....including Pollard. Guy runs way too high...and won't last as a full time back. Pass blocking needs improvement.

Mike Jackson or Donovan Olumba...will be interesting to see how this plays out. Personally...I think I might keep both and cut Anthony Brown.
LOL! Cut Anthony Brown! LOL, hey why not move Tavon Austin to left tackle while your at it!

I would look for another developmental QB if they're going to keep one on the PS

kind a like what Brandon Allen the rams QB did

QB TBD
Weber
McElroy
Knight
Hyatt I guess
Jelks
Wise
Westry
Guyton
JVJ

Jelks, Jonvea, Guyton, Phillips and McElroy. They’ll find an OT or 2 to add after NFL cuts.

We need another project OT. So far Mitch Hyatt is a turnstile that makes Chaz Green look like Erik Williams in his prime.

I don't know why the Cowboys are even putting him out there. He's almost gotten Rush and White in a body cast these first two preseason games.

- Though the Cowboys gave Mitch Hyatt a roster bonus to join their team as an undraftee, I’m not seeing why the team was so high on him, .in fact I’m actually seeing why he went undrafted.
He just doesn’t have size, power or athletic agility to offer.
Maybe they thought he was such a competitive technician that they had to have him and he has something to work with.

But thus far in just two mere preseason games, the 3rd stringer and scrubs have been brutalizing Hyatt, and he simply cannot anchor and stay with them.
His flaws and deficiencies are being placed in the spotlight. Frankly this is not a guy that I look forward to in the future.
He doesn’t have Jeremy Parnell physical tools to offer and work with.
He’ll pass thru waivers and be practice squad eligible-because we’re not missing out on anything special, imo.

- I think Brandon Knight is likely headed to IR .
- I would not bring Lenoir back and come to an injury settlement release with him.

- I forgot what was the limit amount of players that are allowed on the IR List of a NFL team.

- But I get a feeling the team may want Gifford on the 53 roster - and just game inactive him while he heals up from that high ankle sprain.
Did we do LB Chris Covington like that last year, .or was he a short term IR ?

- And speaking of which, Covington could be more on the bubble this time around.
I haven’t been impressed when he has had a chance to play, and players like Gifford and Justin Phillips have been clearly outplaying him.

- If Justin Phillips can come up with another big game, I’d strongly prefer him over the likes of March- Lillard who has been invisible ghost thus far in preseason
and also Lillard is a liability vs the run, he's purely a space/special teams guy, but I like Phillips ability vs run traffic and ability to get INT turnovers.

Jelks lasted until the 7th round. This could be a case of fans over evaluating our own players. As we all often do, as well as under rating them too. I put Joe Jackson in that category to. But he may make it as Quinn is suspended. Then they have 2 weeks to decide on him from there.

Thompson is interesting though. Some think he will make it some say he bounced around the NFL and has good days and bad days. I will watch to see how Powell gets more comfortable with the system and he may make it to the 53 over Iloka and Thompson. His 1st game he had a very bad play and a few decent p[lays. Against the Rams he looked better.

Good list but not sure if Redmond is eligible. Not impressed with Hyatt at all. But doesn't mean he can't improve on the PS.
PS is so hard to predict. As usually there are a few they pick up from other teams as well.

Hyatt has been so abused by mere 3rd stringers thus far in preseason, I really don't understand what they see in him.
I can see a reason to practice squad Wise rather than Hyatt.
He's a rookie playing next to other 3rd stringers. It happens.
Been better than XSF who is not a rookie and people want on the roster rather than the PS.
