Sucks to lose Land, but that was expected after what he showed in the games.
Not even watching the player, you'd be foolish not to look at the Cowboys pass rusher cuts knowing how deep the roster is at that position. I think they might regret this. They're going to have to find replacements for Armstrong and all these guys who will want more money because #11 makes them all look good.

I'm not awarding Land even assumption that he'll ever start in the NFL... but you bring up this name, and it reminds me to wonder out loud if they got calls and tempting offers for Armstrong.
I don't disagree with the starter argument, I just think they need to bulk up depth more because the current defense makes this a much more expensive unit to keep together. That's what killed the 90's Boys with all their depth. Can always cut him mid-season or next year if he doesn't show progress.

They had an abundance of talent at that specific spot in that specific role and all the league knew it.

The choice you had, then, was to trade an Armstrong kind of asset and hope that Land could make the jump, or do what they did.

Note, we haven't won anything. I think it's completely defensible to say, "Let's roll with Armstrong and see what we can win."

If you lose Armstrong (and his ilk) at least there's a fairly reasonable compensation pick system these days.
