So go pick another team.
Pick another team?

I was here first, let Jerry Jones pick another team.

What in the realm of Hades does criticizing Jerry Jones have to do with watching MY Dallas Cowboys play football and being a 47 year fan of the team?

The fact that you would equate the team with the current owner is disturbing. The fact that you would equate my 47 year loyalty to what I think of Jerry Jones is insulting. Do you think he is actually capable of erasing 47 yeats of emotional investmemt in the helmet with a star?

Jerry Jones is as temporary as the previous head coaches he hired. It won't be long before he is gone. So, if you really don't mind, that is, if it is okay with you, I'm going to continue to be critiical of the ownership aspect of MY team.

Or perhaps, in your reality, Jerry Jones is perfection personified......now that is truly disturbing.

He is there. Broaddus' reports are not exactly glowing on him. He states that he is not looking as explosive as he was late last year and is having a tough time disengaging from blocks.

Irving was inconsistent last year, so I'm not sure him not looking like a dominator shouldn't be expected. The hope is that he'll be able to build on what he showed in spurts last year, but it would surprise me if he starts out with any more consistency. Maybe, though, he'll be able to build up to a high level and maintain it.

Sure, he has always been inconsistent.

But like a lot of things, the offseason hype train, most of which focused on the first GB game and the Tampa game against poor competition, got people thinking he is some beast ready to break out. Sometimes the absence of real football and the ability to see the games live as they unfold makes it easy to forget. I just question if he can get into a groove in camp, shut it down due to his suspension and then pick it back up when he rejoins the team. The suspension was one of the worst things that could have happened for him.

I agree. It would be different for a vet, established pass rusher. It will surprise me if Irving gets into a groove in camp that he'll be able to just kick it back into gear when he returns. I think the inconsistency will return with him and he'll have to build back up to getting into a groove again.

Of course, I hope I'm wrong and he'll just hit his stride and stay there.

He isn't perfect but he also isn't as bad as some make him out to be. Like it or not he has took the Cowboys to number 1 in the world in any sport and has 3 superbowls.....more then anybody else that has been in charge of the Cowboys

Dak Prescott – The Cowboys’ starter looked sharp in his first padded practice of the year. Prescott threw over the middle of the field early and often, connecting with Terrance Williams and Brice Butler on several slant routes. He also picked up big-time yardage on a quarterback keeper that faked out the entire defense. Prescott went 11-of-15 on the day, and one of those incompletions was a drop by Williams on what would have been a big play.

I suppose that either Carroll gave up all those completions or the entire secondary stinks by your standard since they allowed Prescott to complete 73 percent of his passes.

Just looking at the compete period where Terrence Williams beat Carroll, it was followed by Heath being beaten by Hannah and Hitchens being beaten by Elliott. So all three stink since the offense was 100 percent against them.

The only secondary player, according to the clips, who didn't stink by your standard was Awusie because the only highlight we've got from camp of him is his interception. As far as plays made by the secondary, that's one of only two that I've seen from yesterday. The other? It was made by Carroll when he stripped the ball from Williams.

Carroll is blah. He just is.

You can keep hoping upon hope that he's going to be a good player for us but he's never been more than an average, at best, CB for his career who really was pretty terrible last year. The fact he's getting toasted in camp, despite what is happening to other players, shouldn't surprise anyone.

But hey, if you want to keep pointing out all the other times a CB or S gives up a play in order to prop up Carroll, go ahead. Have fun.

Temporary? Jones has owned the team nearly 30 years.

One of my favorite sayings is, there is nothing more permanent than temporary.

Poor competition? Lol this is the NFL, bro. Fans are excited about Irving's potential and rightfully so. Trust somebody with an eye for talent (me)

Poor competition? Lol this is the NFL, bro.

He dominated against Gosder Cherilus who decided to retire he was so beat up and their fourth OT, a kid named Leonard Wester.

It may be the NFL, but it does not mean upper tier talent. There are plenty of players in this league that truly don't belong. He just happened to feast on a couple of them.

It was fun to watch in that game, but he didn't show much of that level beyond it.

I'm not propping him up. I'm just pointing out the fact that all of the DBs are getting beaten on these plays. If we want to be mad at Carroll for it, then we should be mad at the rest.

I'm certainly not saying that he's going to be more than average at best for us, and I certainly don't want to see him starting. We'll see what role he ends up playing.

But hey, if you want to bash Carroll for his mistakes while ignoring the facts that the other DBs are also getting beaten in these drills, go ahead, have fun.

Trust me I did NOT want to see Carroll completely whiff on his jam and get burned off the line of scrimmage. But that's exactly what happened.

And guess what? It's going to happen again. How many times do these corners and receivers go against each other one-on-one? If we expect the receivers to not win any of those battles, if we expect the corners not to mess up on some of them, then we're expecting too much.

The agenda on here is that Carroll was a bad acquisition, so fans are jumping all over his failures. It's what they expected to see, so they are going to harp on it.

I'm not defending Carroll as a player because I really don't expect that much out of him, but if I'm going to get mad at him for not handling Williams on that play, I'm going to credit him for stripping Williams of the ball on another play, I'm going to get mad at Brown for letting Beasley come back for the ball to beat him, I'm going to get mad at Heath and Hitchens for allowing Hanna and Elliott to separate from them toward the sideline. Those are just a few of the examples from the snippets of practice that are posted.

So far, I haven't seen anyone bashing those other players for allowing receptions, just Carroll. I guess the forum has found its secondary whipping boy now that Carr and Church are gone.

Of course the difference here is Carroll is a finished product. Brown, Awuzie, Jokes, Lewis are all young players with upside and the chance to improve.

When Carroll gets burned it's because he generally stinks. I'll get on him because it's what he does. When Brown gets burned it might just be a young guy learning and getting better.

That is the truly unfortunate thing about him being suspended. We needed him to build on that momentum, instead he will be sitting.

I think the hope is that he did well in Philadelphia when asked to do the things he would be doing in our scheme.

For one, he was OK playing in Billy Davis' zone defense in Philly. He was then pretty shoddy under Schwartz playing more man (although Philly also played some zone last year as well - more than normal - because they had weaknesses at CB). Now maybe in the context of last year when he totally stunk, Carroll's previous seasons in Philly would show him doing "well".

Further, we aren't a total zone team ourselves anymore and the idea we are going back to playing predominantly zone defense appears to be more myth than reality. I believe our base pass D is now Cover-1 and has been the predominant scheme we've used while sprinkling in Cover 3. I found a chart from Sturm for the 2015 season and we played Cover 1 (man) almost 50% of the time. That didn't seem to change a lot in 2016.

My expectations aren't high for the guy but Marinelli has been pretty good at having defenses that don't give up big plays so I would be a little shocked if this guy just gets toasted with how conservative Rod is.

I don't see him being out wide by himself very often but who knows... We have a lot of corners.

My fear is that all of our corners look ike nickelbacks.

I am disappointed that he apparently is being given a free pass at one CB slot while Brown and Scandrick are apparently battling it out for the other outside CB slot at this point.

The Cowboys have tried to get this guy for two off-seasons so I worry that they are so enamored with him that he ends up being a Marinelli pet cat who they like out there for his "veteran" presence.
