Of course the difference here is Carroll is a finished product. Brown, Awuzie, Jokes, Lewis are all young players with upside and the chance to improve.

When Carroll gets burned it's because he generally stinks. I'll get on him because it's what he does. When Brown gets burned it might just be a young guy learning and getting better.

It's sad that we always have to have that guy at corner that you know will get treated like a rented mule, and has a high position on the depth chart.

It almost as if we love torture

I think we'll be using more Cover-2 this year because our personnel fits it better. Heath is more of a coverage safety than box safety and our corners all can play zone while Carr and Claiborne were far more comfortable with man. I don't think Marinelli wanted to be a primarily Cover-1 team but adjusted for the personnel we had. Those three players leaving gives him the chance to finally put his preference in place.

Since 2013, we have always played more Cover 1 than any other coverage. I think people are just claiming we are going to play a lot more zone to justify a guy like Carroll.

I suspect we will play more Cover 1 this year than any other coverage because that's what we've played for the last 3 seasons. Somewhere a long the line people assumed since Marinelli grew up in the Tampa 2/Cover 2 world that's what he wants to play. I am not so sure.

It seems what we are looking for is guys who can play in both - Brown, Lewis and Awuzie, for example, all had scouting reports that show they are competent in either man or zone.

Actually, I think we'll play more Cover-2 because of Heath. He is better in the deeper half than the shallow end. I won't be surprised, though, if we walk Jones up to cover good tight ends and leave Heath back at free safety, so there will obviously be a mix. I just think based on personnel, Cover-2 will be a much larger part of that mix than it was with our previous personnel that didn't fit that coverage.

I am disappointed that he apparently is being given a free pass at one CB slot while Brown and Scandrick are apparently battling it out for the other outside CB slot at this point.

The Cowboys have tried to get this guy for two off-seasons so I worry that they are so enamored with him that he ends up being a Marinelli pet cat who they like out there for his "veteran" presence.

There's definItaly something they see in him that I don't. Like you've said they've looked at his as Carr's replacement for two years.
