Practicing our best players right now is stupid IMO

Couldn't agree less. Even star players need to be practicing, and getting back into game shape and speed, because you can't just sit around hardly practicing and expect to be doing just fine.

I agree, no one likes the 2 a days but they are important and that is why every team out there still has them. Guys can work out but this time of year is about getting your body into game shape to deal with the hits that would make the avg guy stay in bed for a week

If this made any sense, we'd have "Rookie Training Camp". And the rest of them wouldn't come in.

But this is more like a blanket rant, so when someone does get hurt, he can say "I told you so" and eat a banana.

Isn't that the truth. I've been working out pretty consistently for the last three months or so, but I went wakeboarding this weekend for the first time in about a month-and-a-half.

I'm pretty darn sore today! I swear, simply throwing yourself on the ground (or water, in this case) a few times a day can be a pretty good workout! The same applies here, I don't care how sophisticated and elaborate your workout regiment is, there is no substitute for tackling and/or getting tackled.

Well coaches are not stupid they understand this as well which again is why all NFL teams go through this each and every year.

When it comes to the pre-season normally vets will get a few series in the 1st pre-season game and then the playing time will gradually increase as we move forward so that the starters can go into the season ready to play for keeps.

There is no doubt injuries can and will happen in training camp and pre-season it is the nature of the beast but it still something that has to be done to get your players physically ready

It's just as bad to have an injured player not play as it is to have a star player playing in slow motion because he didn't practice in training camp. You just have to work your players just enough to get them in shape for the regular season, but not too much as to increase the risk of injury. It's a fine line to walk, but it's gotta be done.

Would you prefer they practice less and suffer at gametime? The best are most often the hardest workers in practice(T.O., Rice, Irvin, Jordan). You suffer in practice to shine in the game.
This is a team sport and in order for this team to become as seamless as possible they have to practice ALOT. Fear of injury should not be grounds for less practice.

First off, it appears Newman hurt his groin today. Say week 1 he still has that lingering? All I can say is this, July was so important we might miss him for a regular season game now depending on the severity, and chances of him reinjuring once he comes back are very high if not rested properly. But that July practice is important, got to get that timing down.(lol) Peyton Manning didnt even play till the 3rd preseason game last year I beileve.

To the people who take sarcasm to a new level with stating why not rest these guys to December(lol, btw), etc etc. These players are at the highest conditiong level a body can possibly be, they have some of the best trainers in the world and unless our veterans are idiots I think they can remember the playbook. As for timing, what are OTA's for? At least if they get hurt there they have months to get better. Im not saying they cant go to the side and thow a bit or go to the side and line up in the defensives schemes, just nothing live till after the first preseason game and I wouldnt play them week one of the preseason. Does L. Tomilson ever play in the preseason but about 3 carries? All Im saying is we should consider this because we dont want to throw our season away in July with A Tony Romo knee injury or a Terrell Owens torn achilles. I know its not the popluar choice but I think its the smartest one. I dont think that it will hurt their play in game one either because they have about 4 weeks to get ready. Seriously, you dont think we cant get our timing down and get ready in 4 weeks instead of 6? opinions??? its just some fun debate.

Looks like you were right. Didn't take long for him to use the TNew situation as "proof".

Playmaker, we just disagree. Injuries happen and they are always at bad times. But the catch 22 is that you can't play well unless you practice. Is there a point at which the practice is too much and not needed as much, sure. But practices isn't just about learning the playbook.

I think in a 16 week schedule every game is looked at as important and it is the coaches jobs to have these players ready to go when we hit the season. Jimmy Johnson ran a much tougher camp in the Texas heat and guys like Irvin lead the way in the 2 a days. These players and coaches understand the importance of these training camps. Yes there are risk but football is a game that has risk but it does not change the fact these guys have to get themselfs ready to be able to endure the tough 16 weeks schedule ahead of them.

Really? I guess you missed the 1st preseason game he played against Dallas last year.

are you seriously that ignorant? let me spell this out for you:

IT'S FOOTBALL! PEOPLE GET HURT! IT HAPPENS EVERY YEAR!

just about every player on our team was hurt as some point last year. ok, so Newman pulled his groin. that's really nothing serious. have you seriously never sprained an ankle or pulled a muscle or anything? oh wait, you've probably never done any physical activity ever...

A perfect example of a player not practicing and then playing in a game is what Terry Glenn looked like in the Washington and Giant game last year.

Parcells and Wade Phillips have run NFL training camp for 60+ years, they are working these players for a reason, to be ready Week 1.

On Manning, I wrote I beileve meaning I wasnt 100 percent sure. I do beileve he did that a few seasons ago then.

Zrn, Glenn situation is different. We would have 3 more preseason games and 4 weeks of practice. Glenn just was thrown in there in week 16.

Guys Im not being ignorant, Im just opening it up for discusson. Im not saying Im right, its just fun debate.

Screw the timing and conditioning arguments. What about our guys just getting better??

What have we done in the past 13 years that makes you think that our players are good enough to not have to practice?

I know we weren't good enough last year.
