Your entire post including the title expressed an optimistic take on the season. Like it’s gonna be different this season. The fact that you are denying this is concerning. The post is right there.
The very first sentence, "promises or portends," says the opposite. Do you know the difference in those words?

I said interesting and different from most retread seasons. I made no predictions. Yes, it's a very good roster compared to most. And the NFC this year is easier than usual. But I didn't predict either way.

I don't think you even read it.

Whatever. If you’re cautiously optimistic about the season I think you’re in a good place. This roster is excellent but the main components are questionable.

It hasn’t been since heading into the 2008 season that the Cowboys had a chance to build on a third consecutive playoff season. The hype for the team isn’t nearly as high as it was back then. Many thought the 2008 season was going to be the Cowboys year and were picking them to win the Super Bowl, only to have them miss the playoffs.

No team has won the NFC East two consecutive years since 2004. That's been the issue with this division. Let's hope that continues this year.

It’s been a competitive division, despite the bad rap it got for a few years of being the NFC Least. Both the Eagles and Giants have been to the SB 4 times between them, winning 3 of them.

I do have concerns about what steele were going to get upon his return. i hear good things about his recovery but Ill feel better when i see it. I prtty much resigned myself to Tyron being out or hurt by week 6 if not sooner but there sems to be some optomism with the back ups
Id have much preferred a Ol instead of A TE in round 2 but oh well well see how it pans out. Especially one you could have gotten later. I do have alot of optomism about the defense i think it will be top 3 if they stay healthy.

The added punch with the WR corps and another years for Gallup to recover gives me optomism we wont see a repeat of our offensive struggles but dak needs to play like Tampa game Dak or Eagles and Vikings game dak and that is contingent on the line being healthy

go cowboys!!

The naïveté returns every season….part and parcel of being a fan but after watching this team for 30+ years I’m no longer a fan. I’m an invested follower of the team and I look at things in a highly skeptical way.

The roster is good enough to make the playoffs and possibly win the division. But is the coaching or QB play good enough to win 3 or 4 difficult games in a row in January/February? Probably not.
Agree completely. I would add that Philly and San Francisco are significantly better than us so while the NFC might be in a state of flux, it's only from the top two down. And then...even if we got to a Super Bowl we would be big underdogs. It's a mountain to climb without a top-tier QB, leading to my final thought.

It is franchise negligence that we don't draft a quarterback every single year.

With this NFC, we could legitimately win the conference and play only one challenging playoff game before the SB.

All you need to do is take care of business in the regular season and you could very well be playing a less talented WC team in the divisional. Honestly if we don’t see San Fran at all, I don’t see how you’d be worried about anyone else.

Very clear path to not having to play 3/4 challenging games in Jan/February. And shoot, 4 would be the SB.

Agreed, but I expect the Eagles to be the bigger challenge. I like that those three teams will play each other in the regular season with the rotation this year. Familiarity might help us, especially Dak.

It'll be intereting to see who the starting QB will be for the Niners. Purdy, Darnold, or Lance?

If the Eagles were not a divisional opponent that we showed last year we could play with no problem I’d be more worried.

But even when they had Hurts and we had Rush, we were down one score in the 4th with three turnovers. We have so much familiarity that even with a slightly better roster, I’m not worried per se. Will it be a tough game, sure. But San Fran worries me since we haven’t shown the ability to move the ball on them consistently.

We’ve beaten and competed with Philly dang near everytime we’ve played them, even last years SB team. So that’s why I’m not necessarily worried about them.

Not to mention they lost 5 starters and 2 coordinators. Maybe that doesn’t derail them but it sure as heck will have some type of impact. Especially Steichen who’s shown in multiple stops that he can make QB’s look really good.
