I'd damn sure rather have Dak than about 20 of these other gawd awful quarterbacks in this league. (I think every quarterback drafted this year will be a bust.) The Cowboys don't have to go through Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Herbert, or Rodgers to get there. There's a very real path to a Super Bowl here.
  • Young went to a good team. I expect him to do pretty good year 1. His frame scares me long term. I feel like Teddy 2 gloves is a good comparison but hopefully Young doesn't have that many injuries.
  • Stroud is part of a rebuild but also not a terrible team. The only thing I don't like about him is the Ohio State curse. And his best game was the Natty against UGA. And they blew a late 2 td lead. Feels like a bust. He looks like the most complete prospect, but it will all come down to in game processing. He may struggle game to game with a case of reads and reacts.
  • AR15 is the one guy who could have a Hurts like impact if the team uses him correct. Best athlete in the last few drafts at QB. NFL royalty is his if the system fits and injury avoided. He is so athletic, Cam Newton is probably the floor and maybe the ceiling. All depends on the system and the team around him. He is a RPO nightmare.
  • Levis has time to sit and learn and Tanny will be a pro in tutelage. The team may be going through lots of changes in the near future, so this feels like career journeyman because of the team that drafted him. Tenn is loaded at the skill positions for now, and if they continue to employ a running attack in the future Levis could have a solid career. Tanny is the floor IMO. Levis is tough and above avg athlete.
  • The only other guy is Stetson. All this guy did is work his butt off to get every snack and crumb until the job was his at UGA. Walk on to back to back Natty's. I think he is the Ram's starter next season, or maybe this year if Stafford goes down with injury. Stafford also a UGA guy, will be Stetson's best teacher. Rams have a dandy Offensive coach. All of these things equal Stetson has a real shot at becoming the next small, vey successful QB like a Drew Brees.

I would love to have a young hopeful on the roster right now for many reasons. This team needs a breath of hope and optimism, not just the rinse and repeat.
The Dallas Cowboys should trade whatever it takes to get Drake Maye next year.

Haven't even snapped a ball in camp yet, but this promises, or perhaps portends, to be one of the most interesting seasons in Cowboys history.

The league is in a state of flux, and the NFC is in shambles. The best quarterbacks in the NFC are Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott because the only elite 4 or 5 in the NFL all reside in the other conference. The only NFC teams worth discussion are Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, and maybe Detroit or Seattle. Ain't buying the Minnesota thing anymore. The rest are rebuilding their rebuilds, and flailing away on how they're possibly going to throw the ball with any meaningful consistency.

Then there's us.

Dan Quinn has new toys, which is the thing I'm most excited about. Mazi and Gilmore should make a nice difference, and I'm hopeful Damone Clark and Sam Williams are going to make huge strides this year. I absolutely love how Dallas has FINALLY built an excellent secondary group across the board, and then FINALLY drafted a strong inside tackle to stop the run. The retread thing for years in those two areas proved to be a disaster.

And now, Mike McCarthy is coaching for his job while calling the plays. His hiring made no sense with Kellen Moore still here because McCarthy is a playcaller and always has been. Now we'll get to see that every week, and that will be interesting. He's only called plays for Brett Farve and Aaron Rodgers, and while he's certainly had a say in playcalls, he's never been hiding behind that playsheet on the sideline here like he did in Green Bay. And for the record, I think Moore will shine in San Diego with Herbert; this was just an awkward structure here, which Jerry excels at creating.

I'm one who isn't worried about the RB situation at all because I like Malik Davis a lot, and Duece Vaughn will be immediately a factor in his specialized role. That kid is a player. I wouldn't even mind Zeke back on a reasonable contract because he's not as useless as some say. He does important things far better than anyone else in the group.

The offensive line will be good, especially as Tyson Smith becomes truly dominant. Supposedly he's vastly stronger and quicker than before after an intense offseason. I know, injuries are going to happen, but that's true for 32 teams. Dallas fans act like we're in an unlucky bubble that way, and we're just like all the others, and another Tyron injury shouldn't derail this thing altogether. They should be fine.

The receivers and tight ends are plenty solid, and I'm glad Schultz is gone, Cooks is here, and Gallup is another year removed from that injury. Pollard and Vaughn will be big players in the passing game, too.

You all know how I feel about Dak, but know this, too. This team CAN get to a Super Bowl with him at quarterback, especially this year. Will they? I don't think so because I'm still waiting to see him perform against a legitimate playoff team in January. But that doesn't mean he won't this time, and he's got the roster to do it. He doesn't have to be special, just solid. Drive the bus, and don't miss the key throws late. Do that, trust Quinn, and be effective enough in the playoffs to help the running game go and the defense stay fresh. It's been done with non-elite quarterbacks many times before.

We're going to win 10+ games because it just isn't that hard to do with a decent roster against this craptastic league. Dallas has a good team. Injuries aside of course, it should waltz to 10-7 and more likely finish a game or two better than that. A midseason trade for Aaron Donald once the Rams go kaput would help matters greatly in the playoffs, so I hope Jerry is listening. And get a good kicker in here, please?

This is a put-up or shut-up season, no doubt, even though Jerry and Stephen I'm sure won't talk about it that way on the yacht during camp. It is. This thing will fray if they don't live up to their pedigree, and guys will start to look for ways out. It needn't come to that, but they'd better get to a conference championship at the very least.

From our couches, enough has been added and changed to make things intriguing this year differently than the long run of re-runs we've been watching for seasons on end. Here's hoping for success against Philly in the regular season when both teams are full strength to toughen them up for the playoff speed and spotlight that awaits.

Let 'er rip.
Agree with most save your RB, Zeke, Oline take. Malik Davis? Cmon!

Are you the least bit excited to see what Pollard can be as the featured back without Zeke around to get in his way?

30 years has absolutely nothing to do with the current team that has been built with a long term plan over the last several years. They are good and the coaching is good.
Yes, but are they good enough to be a favorite to win the SB? If not, why? Thats what most like to discuss around here.

No you expressed optimism while I expressed the opposite. I don’t fancy our chances at getting past the second round…like ever until MM and Dak are gone.
So some rookie QB or Rush are taking us past the second round? Good luck with that one. If thats your plan its a terrible one.

Easy way to get likes is all this is.

Until they do something they have not done in 28 years I say its all just fanboy garbage.

This ownership has used up ALL its cred and that happened YEARS ago so NO I AM NOT going to cackle before the eggs are laid.

I get the skepticism but it seems pretty ridiculous to clump this team in with the Campo years and what Jerry was doing after Parcells left. It starts with making better decisions and they're finally doing that.. and it's been a mighty long time. The pieces are in place more than at any point in those 28 years.

Your entire post including the title expressed an optimistic take on the season. Like it’s gonna be different this season. The fact that you are denying this is concerning. The post is right there.
I have to agree with CC here...the original post bleeds optimism.

Some of yous say that the coaching is good and the QB is good like that will be enough......well, that's not the issue. They gotta be better than good to be successful in the playoffs. That's the problem with this team. Half the league is good. The defense has the potential to be top notch, but the offense is held back by key players, whom we have mentioned ad nauseam. Keep banging your head on the wall until something changes, that is the feeling. Dak would have to have a Flacco or Foles type of post season to get this team further. Might be asking too much, but that's what it's come down to... Hope/wish/luck.

I am still optimistic....but certainly not delusional. Fine line between the two, but you know it when you see it.

In.order for the WCO to work, the QB has to be intelligent and extremely accurate. Is Dak both?

I'm not so sure.

I am more optimistic about 2023 than I have been in years. But I am not that naive that I think it is a sure thing or it will be easy to get to the playoffs. I think there are a few teams that improved this offseason, including the Giants. I think the Eagles and Giants will both be tough games to win.

The difference will be team health. Whichever team, the Giants, Eagles and Cowboys, can stay healthy will win the division. If it the Cowboys year to have some luck with health this season? I hope so.

If you know me, I'm the last thing from a fanboy. The exact opposite.

But this roster is good, and this conference is abysmal.

But the nature of the "optimism" is they're playing in the Big Sky Conference.

If Dallas was in the AFC, the playoffs would be iffy at best.

We all hope that the things you posted come to fruition

we just need to see if they can impose their will in the trenches on both side of the ball against the Niners and Eagles……that’s the single greatest measuring stick

Hurts is better Dak and Dak is better than Purdy but the trenches can and will be the deciding factor

I mean every game we saw it, in the past couple years, it was not pretty. We saw the lackluster pass blocking and the weakness running up the middle, while seeing him be great running outside.

Pollard's problem is his endurance. Once he gets about 15 carries under him, he taps out and needs to take a series off. He's not an every down guy.

But he is electric with the touches he can handle.

I just hope they hire or appoint someone to manage the clock, because MM was a bit off on that, even without play calling duties.

The Cowboys are in good position to contend this year and next year. They are fine with Dak, Rush, and Grier. If anything a 2 year deal for Rush or Grier to backup Dak would be a good idea. To trade whatever for Maye is much too expensive. They have at least 5 more years with Dak.
