Pre-Thanksgiving Mock

I really get a kick out of guys who don't do their homework. I love it even more when they talk out their rear. You've managed to do both which makes you a favorite of mine.

I don't think we straight-up win enough games to put us in that #12-15 range.

Just for comparison, last years's teams that drafted in that same range (prior to any trades on Draft day) were all either 7-9 or 8-8 (Miami, SF, Seattle, Giants).
In 2009, all the teams in that range were 8-8.
In 2008, all the teams in that range were 7-9.
In 2007, all either 7-9 or 8-8.

"All we need is 3 or 4 wins to hit that 12 to 15 mark." Really? You know this by what, history? See the noted history above.

I just don't see this team going 5-2 or 6-1 down-the-stretch, which is likely what would need to be done to get in that range.

Also gotta love how your prediction is greased by having all the other teams lose. Brilliant, because we all know, out of those teams listed only the Cowboys will win.

BTW, you listing this week's opponents of all the teams is telling us what exactly? I could care less about the draft order after Week 10 because it's absolutely meaningless. Talk to me after the season's over when it actually matters or maybe the final week when you can make a projection.

I think at best we may go 4-3 in our remaining games to put us at 6-10 (W/L) for the season. That would likely put us in the end of the top 10 range. That's at best.
No, it was an example to show you how close we are to #12 already. Not surprised that it was too much to grasp.

The 12th pick in the draft has been the property of 5 win teams when there are as many bad teams as this year.

Yeah, flimsy reasoning is hard to grasp.

As far as the "12th pick....shared by 5 win teams..." Really? When?

Thanks for playing.

You know what? I take it back. I immediately thought of 2004 and the Jets taking Jonathon Vilma. Turns out they were 6-10. I could look further back, but I'll simply concede that I was wrong for now. I really don't care. The 12th pick is not out of reach. I'll stand on that.

I think what Hostile was trying to do in the original post is show that this would be a "worst-case-scenario" draft if we were to end up picking in the mid teens from putting together some wins.

Who cares really? Buncha children here fighting over Mr. Potato Head accesories.

If the Cowboys end up between 5-11 and 8-8, they'll most likely be picking between 10-20.

All this mock does is show what Hostile would do if that were to happen. Stop crying, it's going to be okay.

As for your mock Hos, I'd take it. CB depth is sorely needed right now and if Amukamara and Peterson are gone, I'd be happy with Harris. The only thing in this mock that would concern me is lack of D-line being drafted in such a deep class; however I believe Bowen could be somewhere between above-average and Pro-Bowl quality if he were to get more snaps.

Lol, shut up.

Are you his publicist, some sort of diviner or just a fanboy blindly running to your hero's defense?

Instead of some creative interpretation, why don't you just take what he said for face value...

I think Dallas is going to end up picking around 12 to 15[...] we're going to win games and move down the draft. I am sure of it.

Thanks for playing.

You have a strange definition or understanding of what the word most implies.

Using this past draft as a starting point and going all the way to 1990 (which you mentioned) only five out of the past 21 drafts have had a team that finished with a record of 6-10 picking at the #12 slot.

That isn't most.

2010 - #12 Miami (7-9)
2009 - #12 (8-8)
2008 - #12 (7-9)
2007 - #12 (7-9)
2006 - #12 Browns (6-10)
2005 - #12 NY Giants (6-10)
2004 - #12 NY Jets (6-10)
2003 – #12 St. Louis (7-9)
2002 - #12 Arizona (7-9)
2001 - #12 Kansas City (7-9)
2000 - #11 NY Giants (7-9)
1999 - #12 New Orleans (6-10)
1998 - #12 Atlanta (7-9)
1997 - #12 Tampa Bay (6-10)
1996 - #12 Tampa Bay (7-9)
1995 - #12 Eagles (7-9)
1994 - #12 NY Jets (8-8)
1993 - #12 LA Raiders (7-9)
1992 - #12 Miami (8-8)
1991 - #12 Dallas (7-9)
1990 - #12 Cincinati (8-8)

Do you guys understand how ridiculous it is to be arguing over the draft in november? This is the situation we find ourselves in, how sad.

It really has nothing to do with the draft, it's about getting the facts straight versus simply making stuff up.

This isn't about liking one player over another, it's about saying something happened a certain way when it didn't.

I'm a stickler about things like that.

06 draft- cleveland 6-10
05 draft- giants 6-10
04 draft- jets 6-10
99 draft- washington 6-10
97 draft- tampa bay 6-10
95 draft- tampa bay 6-10

all these teams were the 12th pick in their draft. some traded out. in every draft between 06 and 95 except for one the team owning the 12th pick was 7-9

actually i said 96, but yes you are right it was not 'most' but at least one of your records are wrong, one team was 8-8 between 06 and 95 owning the 12th pick

ah nevermind your record isnt wrong you just showed the 11th pick in 2000 instead of the 12th

I came in here expecting harcore November draft analysis and all I got was draft poisitional debate.

Bunch of nerds.....

actually nerd is an insult to these guys

they are at least two levels beyond that

You don't take a position with your first pick just because you have a need there, especially not high in the first round. You gotta take the best guy available, within reason. It COULD be an offensive lineman but it could just as easily be a CB.

That's why I said 12-15. Sherrod would be good value there.

Hostile;3708114 said:
I feel we have bigger needs at Interior OL than OT (we have 5 on the current roster) and therefore am not keen on OL in round 1. It is a thin OL crop anyway.

Harris on the other hand is a potential star.

I guess I'm tired of drafting better players at positions of greater need than OL.

/sarcasm

It may be a thin OL crop, but Sherrod is a heck of a player and would be great value at 12-15. He may not be a "star," but he's an excellent pass blocker, is very agile and and brings a punch in the mouth to the point of attack. He's exactly the type of athletic RT you need these days, and he'd be a fixture for the next 12 years. I agree that the team has needs on the interior, and I'd go there in round 2 and/or 3.

I think Sherrod might be good value there too. Before it's all said and done, he might end up the no.1 ranked OT heading into April.

In 1995, Tampa acquired the 12th pick after making a trade with Philly who was originally slotted there due to its record (7-9).

As far as your other statement ("every draft between 06 and 95 except one...was 7-9"), I don't get it?

Your original claim was that most of the teams that had the 12th pick during that time period were 6-10, not 7-9. Further, during the last 21 Drafts, of the teams owning the 12th pick, four were 8-8, five were 6-10 and twelve teams were 7-9.

The point in all this is Hostile claimed this team needed just "3 or 4 wins" to put Dallas in the #12-15 range. History tells us it just ain't gonna happen.

For Dallas to go 7-9 or 8-8, the team is gonna have to go 5-2 or 6-1 down the stretch. I just don't see that happening.
