Prefered Edge options?

Why would you spend two 1sts on a 30 year old Crosby when Hendrickson has better production over the past 4 years and neither have been great the past 2 years?
 
It's tough to find a difference making DE in free agency. We can sign a decent vet, but if you want a guy who gets 10+ sacks a season, you have to trade for him or draft him.

problem in the draft, they usually have a steep learning curve and take time to develop. Perfect world you draft one and sign a fa or make a trade
 
For the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of the defense a dream scenario of Hendrickson/Crosby would be ideal at the first, the 1st first rd pick on Styles and the 2nd first on Downs.

Sounds crazy but not impossible if ya ask me.
 
I'm weary of giving big money to or trading 1st rd picks for guys around 30 years old. I'd probably steer clear of both Hendrickson and Crosby. If Hendrickson only commands a 1yr deal, then yes.

A lot of this comes down to what Dallas does in free agency.....if anything noteworthy.

It all starts with the trenches. We have the DTs now get a vet DE to pair with EZ and were cooking. Safeties and LBs can be added thru free agency and rest of the draft.

*2024.....18 sacks, 17 games, led the league, 2nd runner up for DPOY
*2025.....18 sacks, 17 games
*2022.....8 sacks. 15 games

So, no draft capital required, but he will need a new deal. His current value is tricky coz he missed 10 games this season after playing two full seasons in 2023 and 2024. He had surgery last month but should be ready by the start of free agency. Spotrac lists his current value at $25.5M. Some have suggested this is way off and he will command north of $35M. He's expected to have a strong market. I'm guessing guaranteed money will be the key to getting him signed.

Use one or both 1st round draft picks in the 2026 draft and draft a top Edge .........Bain or Reese. In other words, would you use both 1st round picks to trade up for Bain or Reese?


NOT an option but for what it's worth.......read a few nuggets suggesting the Steelers move on/trade TJ Watt. Highly unlikely but there is talk from fans and media. Here's his contract...

A lot to consider here for sure.

I LOVE Crosby, but not at point of giving up both firsts this year or even worse 1 this year and our first next year.

We just need to many pieces.

If we can get Trey for no capital, it may be better long term option, not at 35 mil plus though.

Bailey is intriguing. We dont have a burst bendy twitched up pass rusher. But a pass rushing only DE at 14 seems a bit rich, this year.

I though we had Houston 1 more year, seems resigning Clowney is a priority.

In your scenarios I'd rather sign 2 mid tier DE draft Bailey.
 
I get the premise of the thread, but isn’t Phillips available next year also?

I feel like there are less than marquee names out there to help build out the defense.

Option 3 Bain wont be there unless you move up which we cant afford to. So give me Cosby for our 1st and OO

Honestly Creep........I would love this option but it's tricky. Free agency will be dry by draft time, meaning you are now under pressure to def find your answer in the draft. But you have no way of knowing whether or not you can get Bain w/o using significant draft capital and/or overpaying. I will say if we are drafting near the top 10, I would not problem trading our 1st AND 2027 2nd going up to get him.

Drafting winners off winning programs is the key to success. I know there are no guarantees coming out of the draft but I think this guy is a winner and I want him on my team.
