A shame to see so many "glory" supporters on here. Chelsea fans for goodness sake. A club that had little to zero history before 2003.

Prior to 2003 there wasn't that much easy access to coverage of the EPL. Teams with history can gain followings in relatively newer markets.

FIFA probably should look into Chelsea for match fixing. Their fall over the last year is incredible.

To be fair that's pretty harsh. They weren't a dominant force or anything but they'd won both domestic and European trophies and had some legendary players and teams (and Pat Nevin) long before Abramovich arrived.

edit: In saying that, aye its amazing the number of Chelsea fans and folk wearing Chelsea shirts I see. Saw next to none pre-Abramovic

Chelsea has always been a big club. Has been well supported for 100+ years. Even when they were relegated in the 80s they still got large crowds.

There was a thread on the Celtic forum I use about 10 biggest clubs in Britain, kind of descended into an argument about how much weight you put in history and how much you put in current riches. Anyway when I was having my say it reminded me of this thread in regards to Chelsea so thought I'd copy and paste:

Depends on how you look at it. In terms of history, fanbase, trophies etc probably something like
1 Man United
2 Liverpool
3 Celtic
4 Arsenal
5 Rangers
6 Leeds
7 Forest
8 Chelsea
9 Villa
10 Spurs
Preston I reckon have an argument to be in the bottom of there somewhere.

In terms of current attractiveness to players the top 6 is probably United, Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs and we'd probably be lucky to be in the top 25.

Oh, the irony of an English Cowboys fan abhorring 'Glory' supporters.

Most US based fans had little choice but to select one of the 6 or so EPL clubs that were on TV (assuming they actually wanted to,. you know, watch them)here the past decade.
Chelsea and Liverpool had the youth tie-ins so drew US fans that way as well. Man U was the Glory club by far.

Now with a number of TV contracts they can follow German, La Liga or basically any EPL side.

Why would a fan choose a side based on history? That's rather silly. As a Cowboys fan I want them to win now, not 10 years ago. I was a fan then so got to experience it, but it has zero to do with my decision to follow them.

As to a lack of history, well Chelsea has embraced that goofiness.

Pretty sure ole Jack Cock would just say "bugger off".

Chelsea is through to the round of 16 in the Champion;s League and still alive in the FA Cup.
Only an elite team would be considered "awful' with that result.

Everyone can't be Barca or Real Madrid and play dead dogs 75% of the time; some of the teams are in real leagues with depth:)

Did you actually read what the two people you quoted have said on this page? We were both defending Chelsea. In fact my post you've quoted says in my opinion they're the 8th biggest club in Britain over the last hundred or so years and currently 2nd most attractive to potential new signings.

Edit: apologies I had it in my head it was ron that had written csirl's post

I don't always quote to disagree.

But to be clear, I absolutely agree with your assessment.

Chelsea has a TON of history, just a lot of it isn't very good, lol. The club was founded in 1905, not 1995 like the wankers like to pretend.
And it has remained at Stamford Bridge, Fulham though they did cross the street. I'd probably put Chelsea a few spots higher because no one weights heavily what was done 30+ years ago and they have won doubles and all since, but ultimately I am with you.

lmao...

hey, I suffered through 3-13 & 1-15 in Dallas as well....

My high school years:(
I graduated in 1991 just as we were turning it around.
I had hs teammates that signed with Jimmy and Miami(tho he left before they actually got to campus).

The Campo years might have been even worse. No hope and no plan.

I play FIFA with Forest. I like the club and it makes it a challenge to get them through the CL to the EPL then UCL.
Plus they signed my first American created player out of MLS, LOL.

My top 5 I would defend, beyond that I'm less set with the order and couldn't argue with Chelsea at 6.
Edit: although I strongly disagree with you about 30+ years ago
