Prepare for football idiocy in Dallas

We'd all like to see Romo close out his career with a championship. But we don't need it to validate something personal.

If Dak at some point provides us a greater opportunity to advance or go deeper in the playoffs , that's where my loyalty is.

I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan first. Not a Tony Romo fan. Just win!!

Remember, we were the team that benched a QB who had just led us to the Super Bowl because we felt there was a more gifted QB in waiting and we needed a spark .

I don't recall Cowboy fans screaming to hang on to Morton to validate his career which he was certainly capable of leading a team to a championship game as he did again in Denver.

But in the biggest games Morton made mistakes and had too many turnovers. Morton one of the greatest QB's the Cowboys ever drafted with a 18 year career in NFL. 1st QB on two different teams starting in Super Bowl.

The key was we thought we had a more talented QB in waiting who could spark us. And we were right. His name was Roger Staubach.

And we're concerned we might be benching Romo too soon if he struggles, looks like he might have lost a step, makes too any mistakes, etc. ?? Because ???

What are we afraid of??

Im afraid of wasting our very talented 1st round picked offense in their primes while in the twilight of Romo's career trying to validate him.


All Im saying is let's make the decision which is best for the Cowboys to win now. We should always keep our mind open .

You don't just get to make up both sides of an argument.

If you think we are not going to hear it when Romo has a bad game you are kidding yourself.

No disrespect to the OP...but a QB controversy this year is unlikely unless the offense completely tanks...and that should not happen. Given the latest (at the time of this post) foolishness from ESPN's Power Rankings, I wonder what they'll say next time (I'll bet they will promptly begin to harp on the defense) given Prescott's performance. Of course, if any media outlet begins to pound the drum the OP warns against....it would be ESPN.

I already see it. If Romo struggles the media will be calling for Dak.

But the reality is that this team belongs to Romo and the narrative mid season will be about the team and nothing else.

I'm thrilled with Dak don't get me wrong. But I know and I think most intelligent fans know, this is Romo's team.

In the OP's defense, some people on Twitter are already saying "Move over Romo. It's Dak time" or things to that effect. There are Cowboys fans who are less sophisticated and we will be hearing comments from them from now on. What makes me happy is that Romo knows he has nothing to worry about and Prescott knows that he is here to learn from Romo. I believe they are both content in their roles at this time. With the preseason defense looking decent and Romo looking as healthy as ever, maybe (just maybe) we have a chance to make some noise this season. With Dak waiting in the wings, maybe we have a chance to contend for years to come.

FINALLY Romo has someone pushing him.

I can think of several players that need pushed far more than Romo. Last year showed his value to the team.

My question is how long do we ride the wave ? It appears for the first time in the Romo era we might be able to win without him.

I'm excited that we might actually have options.

Surely , Romo can handle the pressure to produce . He's handled the ridicule and pressure up to now pretty well. I hope he's going to have a great season.

Well, I don't Twitter. I'm sure that's full of non or ex Cowboy fans or haters ruffling the feathers . If that's what Erod is referencing then I'd agree.

But it appears for the first time in Romo era we might can win without him.

Dak certainly provides a confidence we haven't felt in Romo's absence before. I'd certainly hope all Cowboy fans would embrace.

Well it is PS but dak is playing as good as romo if not better.
But the key thing is Dak can run with the ball, he is a better than avg runner as qb's go.
If Dallas has the ball 3rd and goal at the 5, Romo has to throw it or hand it off, and Dak can easily run it in if no
one is open.
That sort of makes him a bigger threat than romo in certain situations.
I think they should consider giving Dak a few games during the season, just to see how he does, and give tony a rest.
eagles and browns games would give tony 3 weeks off.
I know they wont do that though.

Cowboy fans are desperate to win. It's been 10+ disappointing and frustrating years in the Romo era.

Most years he has had to elevate a lesser team. Not everyone has reveled in watching his Houdini performances without more team success.

We're so hungry. Hard for me to fault Cowboy fans for wanting to grasp on to what could be the future.

The last thing we want is to hang on too long trying to validate an old legend holding a new legend back making his mark on history.

It's often a fine line knowing when to cross over. And we could make a mistake hanging on too long or pulling the trigger too soon.

Who has confidence our front office and coaching staff will know when? But yet we want to slam some fans for getting excited even if it's premature . I welcome the controversy if there is one. Competition usually raises the level of play for everyone.

We've been preached to over and over again it's going to be a dark day for the Cowboys when Romo is done and why we should appreciate even more now.

How many times have we heard how long we waited and how many QB went thru before Romo graced us.

Romo has a new challenge.

Prescott looks like he very well could be the future of the team here. I'm thrilled that Dallas may have knocked this draft out of the park.

However........

Prepare for idiocy. We are cursed with one of the dumbest fanbases in the universe, AND THE MEDIA IS ALREADY DOING EVERYTHING IT CAN TO DRUM UP A QUARTERBACK CONTROVERSY. They want unrest in Dallas. NFL Network is slobbering over Dak every 10 minutes.

Romo has to shut it out and play. Every time he throws an interception, shoot, every time he throws an incomplete, the calls for Prescott will rain down on him.

Again, we suffer from the most toothless and tattooed imbeciles of any fans not located in Philadelphia. I'd estimate it at 40 percent of us. Those that hate the Cowboys (including they media) will egg it on.

Romo has to shut it out. The whole organization does. Dak is not ready yet. Let that happen naturally.

If Romo can come out hot right away, that could quell the madness, but of he doesn't, he's got to put the earmuffs on. Or else.

It's a WONDERFUL problem to have, but it's an issue if they allow our to be.

Honestly, and it surprises me to say this because I know the full depth of the Romo haters here, but I don't think we'll see that. First of all, there's no indication that Romo is going to be anything other than great, and he would have had a basically perfect night himself if not for sailing one. The entire first half basically looked like the poster for "anyone can throw/run behind this line" with the numbers the QBs and RBs put up.
2nd, at the end of the day Dak still is just an extremely green 4th round pick and I really can't see a situation where anyone would think he could come in and handle it better than Tony... assuming health of course.

...and the other thing that's comical is the "vanilla defense" argument. As if the other rookie QBs aren't getting the same thing. Talking Heads please.
