You do have to admit that Dak-A-Mania has been running wild this offseason.
I don't know if "overrated" is a relative term, but the hype is pretty remarkable.
Just out of curiosity, what are you expecting from Dak in his 2017 season?
I ask because I honestly cannot fathom a step back on his part regardless if the opposition has memorized the book out on Dak. I could see a step back on the offense part as a whole as they figure things out and establish continuity on the OL, but what Dak did last year is essentially the same thing he did his senior year at Mississippi; he goes through his reads, he looks off coverage, and he throws to the open receiver. The game will essentially be the same as it was last year. Young quarterbacks that recently fell off, such as RGIII, did not go through reads like Dak was doing from the word "go" last year. There are certainly a plethora of things Dak can work on, but these small nuanced details are by no means reason enough to have a step back.
Granted, teams will absolutely be studying the Packers and Giants games from a year ago to try and duplicate what they did, but I'm not too worried about that for three reasons: 1. You absolutely have to have the dogs on defense to do what the Giants and (to a lesser extent) the Packers did, 2. You have to have the D-Coordinator savvy enough to know how to attack Dak and frustrate his process, and 3. The Cowboys will be studying those same tapes as well to ensure that brand of attack doesn't frustrate them again.
As a Dakistani (hattip
@Trouty), even I can admit the hype has been high...but that hype is the result of one of the best rookie seasons for a quarterback in 100 years of football. So the hype is very much warranted.
