Cooper Rush did pretty well in his absence prior to this season. Dak led the league in interceptions two years ago despite missing what, 5 games? Cooper Rush went 4-1 with that team. He was pacing another 20 interception season this year. Looking back on the year when Dez was let go, he and the offense was dreadful until the team traded a 1st for Amari Cooper.
Dak has done well every other season since he's been in the league, but I can't help but question if he was a product of the talent around him, rather than being the overachiever that you claim he is. This offseason we lost our starting RB, didn't replace him, our starting LT, replaced him with a project rookie, our starting center, replaced him with a rookie who never played the position, and Cooks went down early.
This is the worst offensive supporting cast Dak has had since he entered the league, and it's no surprise that the offense fell flat on their faces. It's also no surprise that $90m/y was spent on two offensive players this offseason, and Dak had a ton of cash carried forward from his previous deal, which means there's less money to go around. We have $20ish million available which will be carried forward to offset the $90m cap hit next season from Dak's shiny new contract, and most likely will be put towards resigning Micah.
Did Dak overachieve? Maybe. Is he worth the contract he signed this ofseason? Based on the offensive output this season, my opinion says absolutely not....but you're certainly entitled to see otherwise.
