Pretty strong working theory that McC does NOT come back b/c agreement on terms unreachable

McC is going to want another 4 years at minimum, no? Given that 2025 is so cap-stricken and the likelihood of even just playoffs is consequently dire, he might even want 5, citing 2025 as predestined for hardship because of roster issues out of his control as head coach.

I don't think the Joneses are going to want to do more than 3, and really they're going to be feeling like they're being generous by offering 2.

That's even before you get to actual compensation itself, where there are still other landmines... not only how much, but that there's seemingly a desire to shift more money into incentives/bonuses.

I think McC has too much pride to give in to any of that. I've done a 180 now... Spidey sense is this is headed toward divorce after all, but that's just me.
Speculation, McCarthy is going to stay 3 years since the Dak contract is the same time

Next year is not salary cap stricken, they have plenty of cap space. The hardship is made up by the Joneses. Its imagined because they arent into doing any work.

Why would he want to come back if he has multiple teams interested in him. He most likely gets more money elsewhere and significantly less drama and control.
None of the other jobs are as good, this is the best job he can get and he doesnt have to travel or else he could have left by now or just said he's moving on.

Great question.
I don't know because the cap can be manipulated however. But what I do know is the QB is scheduled to count as 89 million against the 2025 salary cap.
So the first order of business is to further hurt the team's future cap problems by kicking the can down the road like theyve always done.

Whether ya want to call that a salary cap problem or not is a personal opinion I guess.

I think it's a huge problem.

You have a 3 year window with the QB to win, concern about future cap issues make no sense at this point or why sign him?

I am ok with not bringing Mike back but only if they get a really good replacement such as Vrabel, Ben Johnson, Joe Brady or possibly Aaron Glenn. I don't want a yes man but I am sure that Jerry will only want to hire one of those. So tough being a Cowboys fan anymore
I keep watching because of muscle memory. :muttley:
At the very least, I watch because they are my team through thick and thin.
And, with an outside chance they will win despite Jerry.

I think it is a hard decision for MM. Stephen and Jerry are not going to change the way they do things. Those two are not the best at roster decisions. They are often more problems than they are help at putting a team together. Any coach is going to have to deal with that and it is not ideal. Winning is hard enough when you have very good FO people.

But if he wants to be a HC in the NFL there are only 32 of those jobs and a lot of competition for them. And of course the money is very good. That may be enough for him to return.

I am very interested to see how this plays out.

Well Mike McCarthy is officially gone ,can we all sing the praises ,everyone who thought everything was leading towards him coming back were wrong and now we get to start over... I'm not sure who the coach is there's still going to be rumors that it could be Mike Zimmer but I don't want a guy who's on the verge of burnout being my head coach....

Anyone have a link because I can't find the official Mike McCarthy's out it should be pinned at the top but I probably have a guy blocked or something but I'd like an official one that we can comment on but I'm happy Mike McCarthy's out we get a do over...

I have been on board with the theory this will be a mutual divorce for the reasons stated above in the OP. My reasoning is, they left him and the entire staff dangling on expiring deals for a reason. It was to let things run out of contract. I don't look at what Jerry says, I look at what he does. BIG difference. All indications are the OP is correct. This is how Jerry wants it to play out. My hunch is, they already have a HC on speed dial long before now.
I doubt there's one on speed dial but there's definitely a list and it's ironic that Bill Belichick commented if he didn't own the job was open he would have interviewed before he took the college job but that's his own fault Bill Belichick that was dumb for him to race up & a deal that would take a big buyout for it to get reversed and just hold on a couple weeks 'cause not a single team has actually done an official hire yet he should have waited around at least two weeks after the last game of the regular season before he signed a new deal....
