Pretty sure BP was referring to Carpenter

Then it's pretty freakin sad that an undrafted rook is better than our first rounder.

On special teams. Yeah, that's unfortunate. Noone's happy about it. The only benefit I see is that Carpenter is being groomed to be a versatile player for us. Hopefully we'll see him on the field soon. But guess what? We don't need him. We don't need anyone else that was available there. We found our starting FS, who looks fantastic, in the fifth.

I really don't care where the players come from. Carpenter - eventually - will be a starter on the team, and hopefully be a very good player. Then, when we need an OLB, he'll be ready, and able to play several positions along the LB corp.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Could easily be applied to Carp. BP is p****ng me off. Why draft the kid and not suit him up? I mean, you've had all summer to work with the kid and he's not even good enough to play special teams? Give me a break!

Notice how the player bears little to no responsibility this thought process.

Impressive.

Look, I WANTED us to draft Carp because he looked good from the times I saw him play. But you draft a kid and then give his position to an older, slower guy? BP sure has a unique way of doing things.

I think the only guys slower than Carp are on the line. It's one thing to be young and inexperienced. But young, inexperienced and slow is worrisome. You can't teach speed.

I spent my life believing that.

A discussion with some track coaches enlightened me that this is not the case, that in fact, you can be taught to run faster.

We are in the business of winning now. Greg Ellis gives us the best chance to win right now. If you honestly can't see that right now, Ellis is better than Burnett or Carp, then there's no helping you.

I think Burnett might be able to give Ellis a run for the money shortly...

I think Marcus Spears is one of the people he is talking about. Parcells has alluded to how dominant he think Spears could be, literally unstoppable. He is playing well right now, but not dominant.
Agree.
I also think that Canty may fit in that category as well.
However Canty had a pretty good game against the Titans.

I agree, but he needs to keep from tackling Newman to get more playing time.

And Canty too. He wants more pass rush from Spears and Canty. I think Parcells' version of the 3-4 is to have the 3 down linemen, plus the inside backers to provide the pass rush, with the OLBs providing containment and coverage. I think a lot of fans think Ware and Ellis should be rushing the quarterback.

I thought we went over this whole Carp business the other day. It has been well detailed and explained. Some need to get a grip on reality.

Well, that makes me feel better. Thanks...food for thought.

Actually, Carp is supposed to be pretty fast from the combine. But the guy that beat him out is as slow as a DL.

Gimme a huge break CC. You can't honestly believe that. The circumstances at LB have changed a lot since we drafted Carp.

I give Carp the benefit of a doubt. He is learning a new position (much like Bradie James did). He is learning to play special teams, and he has been uprooted by other LBs on this roster (boy, it has been a long time coming).

Give the guy some time. I am not ready to label him a bust just yet. Bradie James, though a 4th rounder, took several years to develop. It was premature to label him a bust a few years ago, wouldn't you agree?

I'm pretty sure you (Tass) wouldn't make a very good coach or GM...

The guy's a rookie and is sitting behind some pretty good players at LB. Granted, some are getting old, but why rush the guy to play when you don't need to. If this were another sucky team, then yes he would be playing...but he is a rookie and we have the luxory of letting him learn the NFL game (which is different than college). I'm sure you were one that wanted to get rid of James after his first couple years and Burnett as well. It takes time to develop players (even first round picks).

I am vexing? How about Ellis playing LB for the first time while Burnett and Carp sit vexes me?
Ellis has 12tackles and 1.5sacks.
Ware has 11tackles and 1sack.

It's not surprising b/c Bill likes big LBs and Ellis is big. So far he's at least keeping up w/ Ware (who's 7yrs younger). and really, Ellis hasn't played bad.

Bill must see something in practice that I am not privvy to...I definitely trust him to put the best players on the field. If that means he feels Ellis is better than Carpenter, then it's up to Carpenter to prove he can play better. It can only help the team

I got a feeling the draft class this year is gonna have us kicking ourselves about 06 in about 4 years.
