Pretty sure BP was referring to Carpenter

carp seemed like kind of a jerk during the training camp, not sure if his attitude has anything to do with it.

Look, I WANTED us to draft Carp because he looked good from the times I saw him play. But you draft a kid and then give his position to an older, slower guy? BP sure has a unique way of doing things.

BP: "Yeah, Jerry...let's draft him, pay him big money and then keep him inactive on gameday. "

Madness.

Think of Watkins as the 1st rounder and Carpenter as the 5th and it will make you feel better I guess. But as to your "point" madness is playing guys based on where they're picked not on how they're playing.

I honestly think that when you are not a starting LB you better contribute on Special Teams. It's on Carpenter to in practice out perform Hoyte or Fowler or whomever if he wants to suit up.

JMO.

i agree..but anybody with eyes can see carpenter really isnt very athletic, and cant change directions any better then larry allen.

Ellis has 12tackles and 1.5sacks.
Ware has 11tackles and 1sack.

It's not surprising b/c Bill likes big LBs and Ellis is big. So far he's at least keeping up w/ Ware (who's 7yrs younger). and really, Ellis hasn't played bad.

Bill must see something in practice that I am not privvy to...I definitely trust him to put the best players on the field. If that means he feels Ellis is better than Carpenter, then it's up to Carpenter to prove he can play better. It can only help the team

why is everybody comparing ellis and carpenter? carpenter doesnt play the outside..he plays backup to akin, whats so hard to understand about that? carpenter in open space is like having a guard play lb'er..as most teams who had carp rated int he 1st rd wanted him for the inside..who knows what parcells saw.

Everyone had Carpenter rated in the 1st round.
And he never appeared slow to me in any of the preseason games. He's straightline speed is good. Not sure where you got the notion he's slow.

I think it came up on the thread earlier why Ellis gets to play and not Carpenter.

fact is, at ILB, we have James and Ayodele...2 guys have are playing pretty damn well right now. 2 veterans that are playing pretty damn well right now.

Fowler has seen time b/c he plays special teams. Hoyte plays special teams. Maybe Carpenter just isn't hustling the way he should. Maybe he hasn't realizee that this isn't Ohio State anymore and that the NFL (and especially BILL) seem to work with a "what have you done for me lately" mindset.

What he did last season and at the combines was enough to get him drafted, now he needs to prove he deserves a starting spot...they're earned, not given.

but that's just my dorko opinion hehe

Then it's pretty freakin sad that an undrafted rook is better than our first rounder.

I have 2 comments about this:

The first is that drafting isn't an exact science and 1st rounders don't always pan out. Even very high first rounders fail sometimes. I'm not saying that's going to be the case with Carpenter - it's WAY too early to even suggest that, but it happens.

The second thing is that neither Carpenter or the "undrafted rook" are going to see any real game time, so Parcells chooses to suit up the better special teams player. Parcells may very well consider Carpenter to be the better LB of the 2, but that isn't where his services would be needed.

First, Carpenter was originally drafted to play OLB, and it's false to act as if we were the only ones that thought of him that way. The fact is he was always viewed as a player that could play both inside and out.

Second, comparing Carpenter in open space to a guard is crap ....... unless you know of a lot of guards that run 4.6 forties ......

Carp may or may not pan out, but give the guy a break and give him some time. Guys like you would never have kept Bradie James around long enough for him to develop.

I don't know if jerk is the way I'd describe it, but when I saw Bobby in TV interviews, he almost seemed to have a little too-cool attitude, IMO. I know the guy's not lazy, but maybe he thought he was a little better than he was when he came in here. Parcells might have to do a boot camp-style beatdown and rebuild on him.

But he has the natural size Parcells loves, and he was a darn good LB in college, so I still think he'll eventually be a good ILB for us.

I think Burnett might be able to give Ellis a run for the money shortly...

that's the truth Burnett is a beast. I think Carp will be a special player down the road for us. He needs to do what he can on special teams just like Bradie did
