Austin had a very short prime, with his best season being 81 receptions, 1,320 yards and 11 TDs.

Dez has topped Austin's reception numbers three times (88, 92, 93), tied him or topped him in yardage twice (1,320, 1,382) and topped him in TDs three times (12, 13, 16).

Austin accomplished some great things for us coming out of nowhere. He had a great combination of speed, especially coming out of his breaks and size. Honestly, Dak would probably do better throwing to him than he does Bryant, but Bryant has clearly been the better receiver in his career.
 
Austin had a game. Austin's ham strings had a game. The reason you see Austin on the sidelines as a "coach?" is he is working off the money Jerry paid him. At first he refused, but then Jerry advised him the Arkansas Mafia would "take him out."

If you're going to ask this question, it might be better to ask who was better, Alvin Harper or Dez.

Frankly, Dez should have to give back the jersey with the 88's on it.

It's funny in a way. Austin, as the No. 1 receiver in 2010, put up 69 catches for 1,041 yards and 7 TDs and no one complained despite the fact that he was one of the league leaders in drops as well. (An article Oct. 27 of that year said that he had four drops at that point in the season.) He was even a Pro Bowl receiver that year. (NOTE: Romo got hurt that season, so Kitna was throwing most of those passes.)

Dez catches 69 for 838 and 6 TDs in a more run-oriented offense and we're ready to get rid of him. The bar is definitely higher for Bryant.

If I had to guess, I’d say Austin was probably a Pro Bowl replacement in 2010 just like Dez last year. Dez only caught 50 balls last year and the only way he should have been at the Pro Bowl was sitting in the stands. However, it’s not uncommon for players from the best teams to be rewarded with Pro Bowl nods regardless of their performance. Therefore it’s interesting Austin was placed on the 2010 team since obviously the 2010 Cowboys were a dumpster fire.

Meanwhile some on here are asking for Romo to come back, looking for the next D Ware and comparing Dez’s prime years vs Austin‘s prime years.

Very ungrateful bunch until the player is gone.
