Prince... why I dont want him.

When did any corner play NFL caliber receivers in college?

Darrelle Revis went to Pittsburgh. Who did he play?

Nnamdi Asomugha went to California. Who did he play?

Patrick Peterson went to LSU and played A.J. Green and Julio Jones.

but you must not watch much college football.

Nnamdi was a FS for Cal. going into the draft most teams didn't think he could play FS in the NFL and would take a while to translate to CB since he played FS in college. Most thought he was a 2nd round pick. Thats why he was drafted 31. Big difference in 9 and 31. If we can get PRince at 31 then I would take him. I just don't think he is worth 9th overall.

As for Revis, Revis could press in college. He had no problem bumping a player at the line which Prince doesn't do. Revis also went 14th overall not 9.

You can learn that. He has the size and strength to do it. I'd rather a kid have to learn to jam better than have to learn to play the ball since that's so much more about instincts than tape study and getting coached up. You could say the same thing about playing the run from the CB spot, something Prince has no problem with. Try teaching a corner to do that.

your right but do you want to draft a player at 9 that has to learn.
A top 10 pick making top 10 money which is staters money should be able to step right in. Prince in Dallas defense can't step right in if he has to learn how to bump and cover. To me for Dallas he isn't worth the 9th pick.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that's what Prince does best is playing bump and run coverage as well as play zone but most scouting pubs say he excelsin man.

Man Coverage: Perfect NFL press-cover corner with his combination of size, strength and speed. Is patient in man coverage, reading the receiver's move and reacting quickly. Quick feet and smooth hips to turn and run, maintains contact with most any receiver down the sideline. Closes well when playing off the line, attacks midsection and wraps to tackle. Capable of playing very physically, especially in the five-yard area. Has the lateral movement to shadow jerk routes. Maintains cushion in his backpedal.

coincidentally, i watched the clips last night on youtube, and really didn't think he looked bad at all. yeah he had a poor game but i don't think anyone is expecting him to be the next deion sanders. everyone in the league has played in games where they were burned. it happens.
The only reason i don't want him at 9 is because i don't want us to pick a corner with the 1st pick. i want to go OL then DL, then Corner. or DL, then OL, then Corner.

He won't be Deion, but his demise has been greatly exaggerated, that's for sure. He'll be very useful in the right kind of system.

I don't think people realize how good Blackmon is. I don't know how he's rated and so forth, but IMO the guy is a STUD. Someone earlier mentioned how Prince would do in the pros against guys like Maclin... Well I wouldn't be surprised if Blackmon is better than Maclin. In fact, from what I've seen, my money would be on Blackmon.

Have you seen him play. He is good in off man cover. He plays great vs slower WRs in Man cover but he doesn't Press Man cover. Look at Blackmon, you have to get your hands on him at the line and redirect him and then turn and run. Prince just stood there, let Blackmon pick his lane and then Prince just turned and ran with him. When your playing a quicker player you have to hit them in the first 5 yards. Prince doesn't do that.

Ryan has his CBs press man 80% of the time. He hardly runs zone coverage or plays 10 yards off man cover.

What is Prince goingto do vs Jackson or any other speed WR when he plays them. You have to press those guys, you have to get your hands on them. Thats what this video shows me, that Prince relies on his speed to much. He thinks he can let Blackmon run by him with out a Press but Prince thinks he has the speed to catch up. I don't like Prince in a press man coverage, I have never seen him do it to a WR a great deal.

Because so many guys get their hands on Jackson right? Well what u see in the video and what scouts say about Prince are two different things. Blackmon is one of the best WRs in college. And in 2012 he'll probably be a top 3-5 pick. After Luck and Barkley.

SO your saying Prince can't play good vs top tier WRs. Do you really want to draft a CB at #9 that can't cover top tier WRs.

Teams can easily put their hands on Jackson and thats what Jenkins did two years ago. Look at the games where Jackson didn't have great games. IT because CBs get their hands on him at the line. If you can't get your hands on them then you lost already.

What is Prince going to do when he has to play Julio Jones and A.J. Green. IF he had to play them he would have gotten onwed by them to. Peterson played great vs them both over the past two years. Julio got yards on the other side and was pretty much shut down when playing vs Peterson.

I'm just trying to show the difference between a top 10 CB and a non elite CB. Prince isn't elite and isn't worth top 10 pick becuase he doesn't press. Trade back and if he's their at 13-18 take him if he your top guy.

No corner, not even the immortal Patrick Peterson, can press Jackson if he's off the line and in motion, like they do a lot with him. Please. And two years ago, Jackson was primarily on Newman's side anyway... Jenkins usually had Maclin. (Remember the Vick pass in the playoff game?)

Lol umm julio jones caught all six passes targeted him against patrick peterson and a touchdown in their game. and McElroy completed 7 of 9 passes against peterson.

And lsu didnt play georgia this yr.

Prince is a good CB and will be a very good NFL CB but not for Dallas. If you see the game vs Blackmon, how many times does he actually press Blackmon. He plays up but never gets his hands on him. Dallas and Ryan likes to play press man cover. You have to jam the WR at the line or quick WRs like Maclin will beat you.

Prince will be a great CB in a zone defense. Tampa Bay, Indy, New Orleans, Detriot he would fit in great.

Clearly this game against Ok St is the only you've seen or watched highlights of. Bo Pellini loves for his Corners to get to the line and jam/physical with receivers. Playing press man is how he shutdown Jermaine Kearse, Kirkendoll, Jeff Fuller(who made Peterson his *****), and McKnight, and also how he allowed 18 completions ALL YEAR (which, might I add, is less then Peterson) and 6 of those came in one game, and he didn't play THAT bad in that game against Blackmon. And he was among the nations leaders in PBs.

PLease those guys changed sides all the time. When Jackson is in motion is the best time to press him. Sone as he is gone off the line give him a good shove. Get your hands on him. You act like Jackson is the best WR in the NFL and isn't able to be covered. Green bay did a good job on Jackson and they press every WR. Taths how you slowed down small fast WRs by bumping them on the line.

No I have seen Nebraska several times. I don't think you understand Press and playing man up. Even in the big 12 championship game I never seen Prince press or bump and run a WR. HE played up on the line but never gets his hands on any one.

I wasn't a huge fan of Prince and watching that small sample of him vs. Blackmon didn't help the cause. However, upon further examination, Prince didn't really play as poorly as everyone suggests.

Here's what I observed:
He slipped on few plays. I can't say if it was because of his cleats or the turf but he didn't seem surefooted that day.

0:42 - He had Blackmon covered perfectly, but the pass was better and Blackmon made the catch. (The announcers even say that he had perfect coverage which gets cut off.)

1:14 - The PA where Prince committed the PI, I'll give you. He got toasted BUT to save a TD, he did what he did. To me that's smart...15 yard penalty vs. giving up a TD...gimme the 15 all day everyday.

2:00 - The flea flicker - helluva route by Blackmon. He got BEAT like he stole something.

2:55 - Looks like Blackmon was the initial read. He was shut down. Pass goes to the opposite side and was nearly picked.

3:07 - Blackmon covered well again.

I like the kid. He's a smart kid and definitely a student of the game. He's humble. But he lacks that extra gear to keep up with the DeSean Jacksons, the Jeremy Maclins, etc. of the world. He might've been OK without that in college but not in the NFL. You can't have pedestrian speed in the NFL if you're a corner.

4.43 isn't "pedestrian speed".

I said over the pas two yers. Jones played well vs Peterson but did not have all his catches on Peterson. You need to watch the game. Jones had 89 yards on 10 catches. Not all was on Peterson and a top 10 WR only getting 8.9 YPC is pretty damn good.

While Prince gave up all 5 catches for 157 plus a PI and 2 TDs vs a top 10 WR.

Peterson tackling ablity is another reason why he is a top 10 CB. He stopped Julio Jones in his tracks on a 3rd down and then went one-on-one against Trent Richardson on the goal line.

I'll repeat what I said. And don't tell me I don't understand the difference.

"Bo Pellini loves for his Corners to get to the line and jam/physical with receivers".

You need to watch more games.

From Various scouting reports.

Pros: "Fast enough to backpedal with most receivers in press coverage."

" had a highly developed sense of press coverage."

"At 6’1, 205 pounds Amukamara is a extremely physical player who excels in press coverage and run support."

" He excels in man coverage with a good press at the line"

"The good thing about him is that he can play press coverage and off coverage"

" A very impressive player in his overall game from the cornerback position. Can turn and run quickly from press coverage and shows a strong and quick punch to halt receivers release timing off the line of scrimmage. "

Heres the best...

"While he didn’t play much zone coverage at Nebraska he has the skills to excel there."

It leaves one scratching their head how you came to the conclusion that he's a zone CB in the NFL. Again, you really need to watch more games. Like I said, Pellini's corners barely play zone.

That sounds great until you can't hit the quick little sucker. You think with that two yard cushion he's just going to run right into your chest? The whole reason they get him off the line is to give him a free release.

The bigger guys are the easiest ones to "get your hands on". The little guys with tremendous quickness are the ones that are toughest. Not only are they harder to hit, but if you miss them you can't catch up to them.

Besides... All this romanticizing of being able to press reminds me of how everyone screamed for years that we had to play more man to man, and then when it didn't work everyone screamed we played it too much. What matters is what works, and any good coach is going to tailor his scheme to what his players do best. Ronde Barber never was a press guy, but he was (is) a hell of a corner.

how long are your arms. Step up and hit hit him. Look at little Cortland Fingagin. He gets his short arms up on everyone at the line. It's not like Jackson is a bullet train. It's not like as sson as the ball is gone he zooms righ tby you. He has to get out of his stance and go. Thast when you get your hands on him.

weell you can keep saying this all you want but when I watched him play I hardly ever seen him press man or bump and run a WR. I have seen him play up byt never get his hands on the WR. Thats why I think he is only a zone cover guy.

If he was so good at press man and bump and run then why didn't he do it vs Blackmon bsides letting Blackmon run right by him.

Thats because you haven't seen him play. You can say you've seen him play all you want. You clearly have not. The damn scouting reports even say press is a strength of his and zone isn't. Which makes it even funnier because you seem to think he's a zone corner at the next level even when he didn't play it at all in college and excelled at press. LOL.

Again with the Blackmon reference. The fact that he didn't play press against blackmon doesn't mean he didn't play it all season, and he never even played zone that game. Again, that game isn't as bad as people like to say.
