A year ago we were desperate to force him to take a pay cut, now we are desperate to resign him? I call BS
We would be if some team is dumb enough to give Claiborne an insane deal.

Never put it past teams to overpay corners.

Some of you really need to figure out that you can't replace half of your secondary in one season. Well I guess you can, but don't expect the results to be that great. You can't replace 4 heavy rotational players in the secondary, replace a starting WR and upgrade the DL in one year. Signing Carr and Church/Wilcox to cap friendly deals would alleviate the needs a bit and allow for the team to focus on bigger issues. Would you prefer to sign 2-3 FA DBs, a premium pick on the secondary and go into the season with the same DL?

Anyone against this move doesn't understand the league. When you have 4 DB's on the market, with 3 of them having been starters when they were healthy, and little to no depth, you bring back guys relatively cheap that can play football on your team.

There is no talent bucket you just go and get players you want at a position you want. It doesn't exist.

This ain't Madden. This is chess, not checkers.

Carr is a vet, a pro, has started every single game since he's been in the league. Any team would consider him valuable. He's not going to get paid some huge contract like people throw out there to support their argument for not bringing him back, or the ones that have no idea how much players cost in this league whining when he gets his value.

Since day 1, he's been a lock to come back. And that's exactly what should happen.

This.

Invest in the trenches.

Great. Return the same secondary that actually wasn't as good as people think.

Makes sense.

If Carr is our top priority over actually improving the pass rush or the secondary, then it's going to be one boring and disappointing FA period.
You're that type of fan that thinks changing out the entire secondary in a single offseason is feasible.

Yikes.

And if Carr would come back for a very nice deal, fine. But this idea that OMG we are just dead if we don't sign all of the secondary back is just insane.

This secondary was not that great that having to replace half of it in one season is the end of the world.

The worst thing is to look at the likes of Carr, Claiborne and Wilcox and think we have to have them back to keep defensive integrity, like that really matters with how soft it was.

We may have gone 13-3, but the secondary was not a reason why.

The secondary as it exists got lit up by Aaron Rodgers when it mattered.

Carr on the cheap. He has been SLIGHTLY above average and nothing more. He gets burned by ALL the big receivers.

It worked out well for the Giants.

I cant believe some of you are content with bringing scrubs like Carr and Church back. These guys are jags

They won't and shouldn't keep all of them. Keeping none of them like so many here want to do is equally as dumb as keeping them all.

Yes, let's make our top priority FA a guy who was contemplating retirement about a month ago.

And replace Church with who (starting SS, that's not a scrub)? Since we don't want another scrub starting at ss.

The Giants replaced 3 starters and another player with starting snaps in the secondary last year? News to me. Or do you mean getting two heavy rotation pieces through FA/draft and having money to keep JPP and sign Vernon and Snacks?

Because we aren't going to spend what they spent. If we sign a corner, it'll be a mid tier guy ... just like Brandon Carr. Long gone are the days of Jerry overpaying.

We would all love to sign Trumaine Johnson and Eric Berry. Nobody here will pick Carr and Church over that. But it's not going to happen.

i don't understand the love for carr. other than playing every week, what does he bring to the table? i rarely ever see him actually make a play on the ball. it's like he is content to let the guy catch it and just makes sure to make the tackle. seems to me that you can plug a lot of guys in there to do that.

If they can get him back for 5 mil a year do it. Get MO maybe for 3 mil for a backup. Then sign and draft a cb

Carr can't be signed as a starter......that should be Mo

Carr can be CB4 or CB5 and get some quality playing time for around 2-3m a year

Mo Claiborne/FA
ABrown
OScandrick
Draft2
FA/Carr
McFadden/Draft6/FA

At first, I wanted to bring back Carr, but there are a good number of some pretty good and younger CB's in FA this year. I know we aren't supposed to be spenders in FA this year, but instead of throwing down 4-5 million a year on Carr, this is the spot I would not mind opening the wallet a bit.

How many passes weren't thrown Carr's way because his guy was covered?

There's no stat for that one.

Carr is a good CB. He's not an island defender. He isn't dynamic and he doesn't make many big plays. But defense isn't just about making big plays, it's also about preventing big plays and Carr is pretty good in that capacity. He should come at a reasonable price. We don't have the cap space or the draft picks to replace our entire DLine and secondary. We need some solid players. Carr is a solid player.
