The Giants replaced 3 starters and another player with starting snaps in the secondary last year? News to me. Or do you mean getting two heavy rotation pieces through FA/draft and having money to keep JPP and sign Vernon and Snacks?
The Giants 2015 secondary (startes) were:

DRC
Prince
Collins
Merriweather

The slot CB was Trevin Wade

The Giants 2016 secondary (starters) were:
Janoris
Apple
Collins
Berhe

The slot CB was DRC

They also added Leon Hall (a guy many of us wanted) as their 4th CB

That looks like a revamped secondary to me

Because we aren't going to spend what they spent. If we sign a corner, it'll be a mid tier guy ... just like Brandon Carr. Long gone are the days of Jerry overpaying.

We would all love to sign Trumaine Johnson and Eric Berry. Nobody here will pick Carr and Church over that. But it's not going to happen.
Just because we wont spend the money they spent, doesnt mean we should keep status quo. Tell me (besides experience) what Carr brings to this secondary that Anthony Brown doesn't

Carr is a jag. Give me someone that occansionally makes a play on the ball and gets more than 1 interception in two years, pleaseee

What?

http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/354168/Re-signing-Carr-'top-priority'-for-Dallas

ESPN Dallas considers re-signing free agent CB Brandon Carr the Cowboys' top offseason priority.

Carr made retirement comments in a post-Divisional Round statement, but is fully expected to continue playing. He started every game the last five years for Dallas and has been a steady presence in the secondary. Entering his age-31 season, Carr would have a strong market if he reaches the open market.
Can they just sign Trumaine Johnson and be done with it.

Carr can't be signed as a starter......that should be Mo

Carr can be CB4 or CB5 and get some quality playing time for around 2-3m a year

Mo Claiborne/FA
ABrown
OScandrick
Draft2
FA/Carr
McFadden/Draft6/FA

You don't sign MO as a starter. Dude is never healthy. He's a backup at best for like 3 mil a year tops.

Don't pay him huge money. He was considering retiring after this season so a one or two year deal will fit. He's a good player that would start on most teams.

I believe we are the only team he wants to play for.

And if Carr would come back for a very nice deal, fine. But this idea that OMG we are just dead if we don't sign all of the secondary back is just insane.

This secondary was not that great that having to replace half of it in one season is the end of the world.

The worst thing is to look at the likes of Carr, Claiborne and Wilcox and think we have to have them back to keep defensive integrity, like that really matters with how soft it was.

We may have gone 13-3, but the secondary was not a reason why.

The secondary as it exists got lit up by Aaron Rodgers when it mattered.
I don't think Carr and Mo will be back but I do think one will
The problem with dumping two cb, two safety a starting wr and needing to improve the pass rush is obvious
To me the biggest weakness we have is pass rush and I rather have a Carr and one of Wilcox/church and be able to add some pass rush than use those picks replacing them

Well, I surely don't know whether re-signing Carr is a priority or not but getting him at the right (moderate) price might not be such a bad idea. I do know he played much better on the right side than he did on the left and was, at least, a consistently available option there. Of course, whether they opt to re-sign Claiborne or not remains to be seen, also depending largely upon the frugality of his price tag.

Unless Mo gets a crazy deal elsewhere I'm thinking he should be priority number 1. He is finally turning into a good corner and Carr is on the downside of his career.
