austin's contract is designed to be very team friendly. the last year is 11 million of the total contract

Yea Austin's salary is the least of my concern. Look at what Desean Jackson or even Laurent Robinson signed for.

You are right. Overrated is current perception. Anyone who thinks he is a #1 WR is overstating him. If they think of him as a #2, then he's not at all overrated, just overpaid.

I guess some could argue that when he got the contract, he was overrated. But that was in the past, not today.

I personally think he's a legit #1 in this league if he gets his hammy's under control. I just don't think that #2 or #3's are capable of catching for over 200 yards in a single game like Miles has.

I don't get calling Miles Austin overrated. If all one looks at is the current contract I guess, but why is that the only consideration.

Let's take a look at all the WRs with less catches (22nd in league), yards (23rd in league), TDs (22nd in league) and see what kind of draft pick was invested to get that production as well as the up front money given before they ever produced.

Different stats services divide it up differently (some call "deep targets" 20+ yards, others 15+), but it's safe to conclude that targets of 15 yards or greater is the area where Miles hurt the team last year.

He was very good on anything inside that distance, but the deep numbers needed to be much better, especially playing opposite Dez.

20 yards +
Bryant 24 tgt 12 rec 491 yds 5td 1 int 118.1 rtg
Austin 19 tgt 4 rec 119 yds 2td 2 int 48.7 rtg

Inside 20 yards
Bryant 113 tgt 80 rec 891 yds 7td 1 int 110.9 rtg
Austin 96 tgt 62 rec 824 yds 4td 2 int 96.9 rtg

Both of the INT on the "inside 20 yards" targets to Austin were on passes of 15 yards or more, so his rating inside 15 yards was well into the 100s.

How was he "not" able to take advantage of that? Again, he was the THIRD OPTION in the passing game last year and he still had almost 1000 yards and 6 TD's.

What more do you people want? Is everything short of having 3 1500 yard receivers every season a disappointment to you now?

Seriously, the only reason he could possibly be considered overrated by anyone is because you're judging him based on his contract which is dumb, or because expectations are completely unrealistic.

The whole point of putting Austin in the slot is so he can't take advantage of the teams 3rd corner or a safety and he has not done that. He was not considered the 3rd option and has not been paid like one. He should be blowing games up and making game changing plays from the slot and he hasn't its evident by the #'s. I'm not saying he bad player I am saying I can see the argument of why he could be seen as overrated. I think you need to relax and look at the while picture a bit and not overreact to a simple statement. I usually enjoy what you have to say and agree with you on a lot of issues but this premises he was the 3rd option just isn't true. Maybe that's how it turned out but that wasn't what Dallas had in mind when they went into the season and continued to use him in the slot. They hoped it would create matchup problems and we really didn't see that last year. Could it be from injuries? Sure. Could he be slowing down? Who knows I'm hoping not he is still a young guy and if Williams shows he can take over the spot they could allow Dallas to get a return on the Miles investment. I think Dallas is in a good situation right now and I hope miles has a good year. To be honest I'm excited about the possibility of Dez Harris and Williams on the field along with Witten and Escobar/Hanna with Murray in the backfield that could rival the greates show on turf at least talent wise. Anyways Cheer Hammer!

Miles may be a little overrated but the world will never know because this flipping offensive line will never let the passing game reach its potential.

he is over paid. He is NOT a #1 WR and is paid as one. So yes he is over rated

over paid does not equal over rated. Those are 2 different measuring sticks.

Romo had almost 5000 yards passing last season with 28 TD's and Dez had a breakout year. The passing game has been producing for years just look at Romo's numbers over his career. The flipping OL won't let the running game reach it's full potential.

Until last season Fitzgerald produced 5 straight 1000 + yard season including 3 1400 + yard seasons. He's been productive even with a very unstable QB situation since 09. AZ has had an awful QB situation since 2010. Fitz has been a victim of terrible QB play in which the Cardinals were forced to use 4 different QB's last season. AZ has already dumped 3 of those QB's.

If Miles was good as advertised he'd be a WR1. He was passed by Dez because he wasn't.

The guy was a WR1 who lost his job yet is paid like a top 10 WR.

That's the very definition of overrated.

Let's hope this isa major bounce back year but he has to get the hammies under control. A speed WR that can't run full speed is pretty limited.

~1500 yards previous 2 seasons says Prisco is right on the money. 58 yards per game is pretty pedestrian.

Roddy White has ~2500 the past two season playing with Julio Jones and Tony Gonzales.

Uhhh.. he was passed by Dez because Dez is a monster and has the potential to be the best reciver in the NFL as soon as this year. Let's cut the bs on that comment.

..and yea, he played with injuries all last year and was limited.. to 1000 yards and 6 TD's as our third option in the passing game. How many third options in the passing game put up those numbers last year?

Some of you guys are completely ridiculous.. honestly.

How many other slot receivers last year had almost 1000 yards and 6 TD's?

Go ahead, i'll wait..
