Prisco on Mazi Smith: Cowboys get an A. He's a wrecking ball. One of my favorite players

I think they were stuck and just had to make a pick.
The supposedly had offers to move down but turned them down. The rumor is KC wanted to move up and take Mazi so the Cowboys stayed and took him. He had to be the guy they wanted.

We picked 26. There are lots of guys who are fringe 1st/2nd rounders that get taken early or late. Sort of like Travis Frederick.
Yea but moving up from #58 to 1st round isn’t a “ fringe “ pick. That’s quite a leap.

The more I read about the kid the more I love the pick. Just like last year, it’s not a sexy pick but it will make the team better.

Not any Cowboy Mocks did I see him as our 1st pick at #26. Rather in 2nd round at #58. That’s quite a leap .
You saw one mock from Matt Miller who had him there. Kiper had him in the top 30. Dane had him with a 1st-2nd round projection. ESPN had him in the early 2nd. Stop trying to sell him as this consensus late 2nd round pick he wasn't.

So was Travis Frederick and Tyler Smith. Worked out.

Larry Allen and Jason Witten were.

Nobody cares in the end. Can be play or not?
its like some on here have a hard time understanding when your picking late in the 1st, your most likely picking a fringe 1st round talent or a 2nd round talent. Some acting like we was picking in the top 15

I don’t have a problem with the pick unless we could have got him in 2nd round .
If you believe what was being said on the Draft Show last night, Kyle reported that KC had been trying to trade up to Dallas' spot.

After Dallas picked Mazi, they got a call from KC saying that they were targeting Mazi with the desire to move up.

Might just be spin ... but if true, Mazi would not have made it out of Round 1.

I didn’t see him in any 1st round projections from the Cowboys . And he wasn’t on any best available at the time including Kiper.

It appears to me since we didn’t get who we wanted in 1st round we didn’t want to miss who we had on our board in 2nd round .

I like the pick and fact we prioritized DT. I just think we might could have traded down a little for a Fringe 2nd round pick.

I heard, not sure if it's accurate, that he was third in the Big Ten in QB hurries. If true, that's HUGE!!
Not saying he will get ten sacks, but that middle pressure with Micah, Williams, Dlaw, etc coming off the edge will be deadly.

He makes Micah, Williams, Dlaw, Fowler more effective by clogging the middle .

According to Jerry, he was 14th on their board.

He was picked at 26. Would some of you actually prefer they use the ESPN board?

This was not a bad pick in any type of way….and even if it was, no one knows that as of right now.

They had one trade offer….from KC, and they wanted to take Smith.

Turns out they could have done the deal and took Mayer (who I suspect was one of the two with a similar grade) at 31, but they considered the depth at TE as opposed to DT in this draft.

If they didn’t take a DT at all, they would have gotten killed for it. It has to cut both ways.

No one gives a crap about perceived “value” after all the picks are made, and every single draft ‘redo’ is wildly different even a year later.

This feels an awful lot like this time last year, and I’d call that a very good thing.
