Prisco on Mazi Smith: Cowboys get an A. He's a wrecking ball. One of my favorite players

Vita Vea comparison was one I was hoping to hear.
Vea is like a once in a lifetime player lol. There just aren't guys who move like him at that weight.

Mazi is about as close as you'll ever get to that as a prospect.

On the other hand, I've never known any reason to consider Pete Prisco to be some high-level talent guru.

Zooming out, there would seem to be an opportunity to do some analysis of which of these guys' insights prove to be smarter than others. Anyone heard of anyone doing that? I suppose within their circles, there's some natural resistance to being that writer who exposes others in his line of work for having craptastic opinions on draft projections. But that would be both interesting and valuable for someone who has the time and also has some research-y background to put it together.

Yea Prisco's just a guy lol.

My point is just that, to ask for a comparison to Vita is difficult, because nobody compares to him.

So I have been watching some Smith tape. Is there a 320 pound guy that looks better? He isn’t your typical fatty. Guy is just square and big everywhere. Can’t move him. Good feet for a big guy too. Just need to rev him up a bit. I hope the country club taint doesn’t get to him.

Not any Cowboy Mocks did I see him as our 1st pick at #26. Rather in 2nd round at #58. That’s quite a leap .
Just perusing a couple of mock drafts, one of the USA Today mocks had him going to Cincinnati at 28, and a SI mock had him going to Seattle at 20. Your determination to prove he is/was a late 2nd round pick borders on some weird obsession and is blatantly wrong.

I don't love the pick but I don't hate it. To me, similar to Avila range where he probably won't make it to 58 but 26 is a bit early.

I am glad the team finally took notice of the DT position in the draft.

Yeah, I mostly remember seeing him listed in the 30s. Keep in mind a few DTs were already drafted as well.

I’m not attempting to argue he would have been a late 2nd round pick. You’re missing my point.

They had one trade offer….from KC, and they wanted to take Smith.

Turns out they could have done the deal and took Mayer (who I suspect was one of the two with a similar grade) at 31, but they considered the depth at TE as opposed to DT in this draft.

If they didn’t take a DT at all, they would have gotten killed for it. It has to cut both ways.

No one gives a crap about perceived “value” after all the picks are made, and every single draft ‘redo’ is wildly different even a year later.

This feels an awful lot like this time last year, and I’d call that a very good thing.
We know of potential trade discussions with KC when the Cowboys were on the clock. I also heard reference to another trade scenario with a team farther down than KC who was also enquiring.

I can’t confirm that, but unless the compensation was mind blowing the Cowboys’ focus would have been with the team having the higher pick.

No one thought he would be there at 58. Only fans who always want to pick high value people sliding and always think you can then have high value players somehow be ignored by everyone and going to us in a later round

I’m thinking we need Mazi more than an extra third, which was probably the offer to move down five slots at that point.

If they took a DT later it wouldn’t be doing much more than adding another body to the group.

Should have taken Hendon Hooker, second best QB in the draft fell in our lap and we went with Dakota Prescott
Do people just not pay attention to NFL teams? Or do they just continue to spew this stuff out??

All night people trolled Levis

To be fair, lots of surprises happened already. Gibbs top 15, Campbell 1st round, Eagles landing Carter and Smith, not to mention Porter being available day 2.

Rick Gosselin's mock drafts were relevant. He held some insider pull with all the franchises and obtained arguably accurate first-round draft projections as a result. It is a shame he stopped putting mocks together.

Everyone else, including Mel Kiper, conducts basic guess work. It is something to strongly consider when reviewing a mock saying this player should be drafted here and another mock predicting the same player will be taken there. Understandably, selection consensus erodes pretty quickly after the first five maybe ten picks at the top of the draft.
