Yeah, cause players didn't celebrate in the 60s, 70s, and 80s....wait, yes they did. What are you talking about?

I'm pretty sure the NFL would survive if they eliminated every stupid, selfish, "look at me" celebration after a play.

How do I know this ?

Because I grew up watching it that way.

I also grew up watching Billy White Shoes Johnson do his dance.

It didn't hurt the game and actually added to the entertainment value for the fan.

The NFL is attempting to push itself to the forefront and further diminish the ones who really matter, the players, the commodities.

That's why the Emmitt Smith rule was instituted. Heaven forbid anyone see him with his helmet off! He might actually be able to market his face himself!

They need to have a penalty for defenders when they celebrate over a lil tackle. I can see if it was a HUGE hit.. but no they celebrate for the little things. Get back to your huddle and play the game! As for the spike thing.. I see nothing wrong with it.. just don't go overboard.
I agree, much more important than the spike IMHO. And while they are at it, how about a rule to eliminate that God-awful stupid jump-shot that the Giants' players do. I mean, no harm done but that is the lamest thing I've seen on a football field.

If you don't see any difference between then and now, then I have no earthly idea what game you were watching.

that spin thing is cool. julius does it all the time. they are ruining the game with all of these new rules

I agree 100% with you and I am suprised EVERYONE don't!

The NFL is ruining this league with these rules limiting what these guys can do to celebrate. You want a golf game, give the NFL a few more years and that is what we will be watching.

Here are some rules they should revoke and are making the NFL stand for No Fun League: (in no particular order)

- not allowed to take helmut off the field
- no group celebrations in endzone
- no "designed" celebration in endzone

other rules that I think are ruining the game:

- hitting the QB even a split second late
- hitting the QB below the waist or above shoulders (no I don't think anyone should deliberately do it, but if it is not called on for every player then QB should be no exception - he does wear pads too)
- defenders touching a wide receiver after 5 yards (if it is not obvious and a direct reason for wr not having a chance at getting to the ball, then do not call it PI)
- Have to do something about penalty for PI

These are just a few I can think of right now, but I know there are more.

If they are going to penalize spiking the ball on offense they should also penalize dances defense do on a sack... The Shawn Merriman dance < spiking the ball? This is ridiculous. The AFLs biggest selling point is that they still have the fun in football...Apparently the NFL is too classy for celebrations. (Reminds everyone of Christ Collinsworth burping repeatedly into the microphone during the Giants Commanders game.)

This is probably more an attempt to keep celebrations from getting worse than an attempt to stop what is going on right now.

If you let them do one thing now, what will that evolve into next game, next month, next season.

It's kind of like a dress code, sometimes it seems silly to have one, but if you don't it just keeps getting more bizzare and unacceptable as each guy tries to out-do each other.

Same thing with the celebrations. They are just putting a stop to it now before it gets more out of hand, bizzare and unacceptable.

The old saying applies here: "If you give them an inch now, they will eventually take a mile"

And like I said earlier, the game would survive without any celebrations, .. just ask Jim Brown, Gale Sayers, OJ Simpson, Earl Campbell, Walter Payton, Roger Staubach, Herschel Walker, Troy Aikman ..................
