Pro Football Talk.com - Romo's agent asking for big $$$

Man.....you sure do worry alot about things you have entirely no control over whatsoever. Why so paranoid I wonder?

Pay Romo whatever he wants and relax. There's more than enough money to go around long enough to enjoy these games while we're young enough to enjoy them.

Eat, drink and be merry, my mink-oil mulleted friend.

who said i'm worried? if football ever gets to be too much $ for me i go find something else to do. that simple and that done.

you sound like someone who as long as the sun is shining and life is ok you're cool. but when problems arise due to lack of forsight, common sense and overall understanding of the ways of the world, what do you do then?

it's got nothing to do with romo and what he wants. we're fine *today* on that. did you miss down the road at the 1st $100mil guaranteed salary and where would *that* come from?

life doesn't "tke care of itself" so you can just float on. it's that type of mentality that usually causes the problems anyway.

and that being too butt-nugget stupid to even know what a real mullet is vs. long hair.

If Romo hit the open market he would get at least 40 in guaranteed money. There are so many teams looking for a franchise QB and would pay handsomely for one. And i think Romo has the potenial to be better than Manning. Also, i worry about Owens getting jealous over the money Romo will be getting.
Boy, that is an excellent point! Nobody has mentioned that possibility so far. TO is happy with Romo as his QB. Hopefully that's enough to keep him quiet and productive. He has been a model citizen off the field this season and quite productive on it. I hope he really has turned the corner and is a team-first guy from here on out. We'll see.

the way the cap is going up - todays OH MY GOD is a bargain in what, 2-3 years?

my biggest fear is greed killing the game. sooner or later they're going to tap out of the average americans pocketbook and they just can't pay anymore. what then? what do the owners do when players are used to more and more and more as a matter of fact? where else can it come from to sustain the growth rate we're seeing in the salaries?

pay per view is coming. that's only gonna stall it at this rate.

Berg: Grip the fact Romo is getting an $80-$100M contract soon.

Pay per view? Already in place and I pay it for DTV Sunday ticket and HD package and worth every $.....

We are $12m Under cap and such a contract is not impacting Joe Fan. Either you can afford to watch DTV and buy tickets or you can't. Thats not changing 2007 versus 2008 over a Romo Contract. A contract he has earned!

Here is a news flash for you:

The NFL isn't going to go anywhere. You know why hockey went down the drain? .........BECAUSE HOCKEY IS BORING AND STUPID AND NOBODY CARED.

Problem solved.

Exactly.

If the point ever comes that I can't afford to watch football, I'll know I'm a complete failure at life and I'll be ready to die anyways.

Not sure what's worse with this post, the arrogance or the inaccuracies.

Here's a history lesson - Baseball used to be where football is now, NBA used to be on a much higher scale, hockey still rules in Canada. No sport will ever "go anywhere" but they sure as heck can drop down in value. IMO what damaged each sport (Hockey included) were labor disputes and arrogance from the parties towards their fans, instead of working to make the game better both sides focused more on breaking the other. Thankfully the NFL seems to have learned it's lesson from 20-25 years ago but never say never.....

If Romo wins a Super Bowl this year, peyton manning money circa 2007 may be worth chump change 4 years from now. Remember Aikman's contracts?
I certainly do. And I also remember Jerry Jones on the Ticket last month saying "...that you get into a situation where you can't afford to put good people around them" (expensive QBs) and it "..can cause coaches to lose their jobs" (Gailey & Campo??) because you can't afford to pay a 1st round pick.

I want Romo to get a good deal, but like Aikman, he can't run down there and catch the ball too, so he'd better be a "team player" and not squeeze out the Witten's, T.O.s, etc., not to mention the D that prevents every game from being a shoot-out, having to be won soley by Tony...

Riiiiight.

And David Beckam is saving soccer in America as we speak.

People pay for what they wanna see. Most people want to see a fast-paced, violent game. That is why the NFL will never fall.

Completely ridiculous post...

1) what does this have to do with ANYTHING being discussed. You bring up soccer? Rly??

Ummm, the very sport you cited as failing in post #24 is a "fast-paced, violent game." you just blew your own theory out of the water.

Congratulations

I'll pitch in, oh wait I already did, I got season tix. Gettter done Jerruh!!!

Not sure where you're going with this but I'll dip my toe in the water, NFL would love to have the popularity that soccer has outside the US, just because you don't care about it doesn't mean it "went away". Regarding Beckham, check out the attendance for stadiums when the Galaxy visits, if you want to watch Dallas FC play L.A. in Frisco be prepared to pay double the standard ticket prices (And that comes from the stadium, not a scalper)

Apparently you weren't around during the 82 season.

Well Marc Bulger got a 6 year contract with 27 mil guaranteed, and as far as I know, he's no Peyton Manning. I can see Romo getting about that, Jerry is going to have to pay for not signing him sooner. Hell, they should have signed him long term two years ago, it's not like Bledsoe was looking all that great.

oh i got a grip and i'll say FOR A THIRD TIME - i don't care what romo gets. but what will the sport be like when the guarantee is $100mil? 100mil for 1 player...

no one seems to get i'm talking a decade away.

ONE MORE TIME FOR THE READING IMPARED

i don't care what romo gets. pay him hell yea that's part of the system e-ha. i don't want him going anywhere so i hope we *do* pay him.

my point is sooner or later the NFL's escalating salaries is going to cave in and top out. what that will be i had no idea, too many variables to be sure.

direct TV is NOT pay per view in the sense i'm talking NO FREE GAMES anymore. you want to watch the cowboys, you pay to do it regardless of where you live.

people don't seem to catch that also. do i know you can pay now?

yes that why i said "baby steps" is how we're getting there.

i appreciate what you're saying nors, but i'm not talking about nor care about romos salary. i'm talking about how far out this can go before it just gets too expense for the average fan to support it.

wow. this just reeks of stupidity and a SWING AND A MISS on what i was saying. let's just end this because it's painfully obvious to me you don't understand me and you never will.

you said exactly about someone talking about romo where i have said time and again i'm NOT talking about romo. repeat - you don't understand me, and you never will.

THANK YOU. i'm not saying there is a problem at all right now. this could well be looked at 10 years from now as the glory years cause things fell apart or did in fact cap out. we spin off to gluttony and thinking the well will never run dry and then one day...

it's gone. someone moved your cheese.

we've seen it happen in several major sports and we simply don't know what will happen in a decade from now when the $30 bill guaranteed isn't a thing at all anymore.

baseball has 82 home games to get reveune. football has 8.

all i'm saying and i'm glad you chimed in to let me know someone does understand where i'm going with this.

I was listening to Sirius NFL Radio today and they said that Romo denied that he was looking for that kind of guaranteed money.

ThreeSportStar80;1676331 said:
I believe $30 million guaranteed is a tad too much... $25 million is about right.

based on?

name any other QB you'd rather have right now. payton manning included.

i can't think of one.

can you?

so why underpay if there's no one else you'd rather have?

Pay dis man he's monies!

I don't care how much money he gets.

It's going to be exorbitant.

It might make him the highest paid player in the NFL.

Who cares? Pay him his money. He's worth it.
