oh i got a grip and i'll say FOR A THIRD TIME - i don't care what romo gets. but what will the sport be like when the guarantee is $100mil? 100mil for 1 player...

no one seems to get i'm talking a decade away.

ONE MORE TIME FOR THE READING IMPARED

i don't care what romo gets. pay him hell yea that's part of the system e-ha. i don't want him going anywhere so i hope we *do* pay him.

my point is sooner or later the NFL's escalating salaries is going to cave in and top out. what that will be i had no idea, too many variables to be sure.

direct TV is NOT pay per view in the sense i'm talking NO FREE GAMES anymore. you want to watch the cowboys, you pay to do it regardless of where you live.

people don't seem to catch that also. do i know you can pay now?

yes that why i said "baby steps" is how we're getting there.

i appreciate what you're saying nors, but i'm not talking about nor care about romos salary. i'm talking about how far out this can go before it just gets too expense for the average fan to support it.

You get free local games ?????

DTV is pay per view - pure and simple

This is america and hopefully you can afford to buy DTV and or a game ticket. In your case isn't Dallas local and free to you?????

Romo's contract not icing you out of anything.

1. yea. it's called local channels. like CBS and so forth.
2. then again so is cable if you wanna be uber-anal. but i don't pay "on top of that" like we're headed to.
3. you don't understand, and you never will.

not my problem.

Pay dis man he's monies!

I don't care how much money he gets.

It's going to be exorbitant.

It might make him the highest paid player in the NFL.

Who cares? Pay him his money. He's worth it.

Rounders reference, I love it.

The movie is awesome besides containing the worth Russian accent I've ever heard.

back up and see more than *today* but look where it's going.

the system works "great" *today*. i'm talking 10 years down the road when whatever romo gets today is dwarfed by some rookie a crappy team had to have coming out of the draft.

30mil guaranteed. wow. would we have imagined that 5 years ago? what would a 3rd year aikman get *today*?

no way should he get payton money? why not? even if he did it's a lesser % capwise than what indy did. the value of the position has gone up since then. why? and where does the money come from?

ultimately, us. how much do you spend on football a year now and how much are you willing to before it's just too much of your disposable income to afford so you stop or cut back? no 1 person won't make a difference either way but i'm talking trending.

$2500 for nosebleed seats to the superbowl. you going? if so, how much before you won't go? if not, is price a major factor in your decision?

pay per view isn't here in the way i'm talking. i'm talking even local channels will give out to the dish network or cable tv and buy the rights maybe. the nfl network may keep it all for itself and charge you per game but allow you to watch any game you want. want to watch dallas? sure. $20. $39.95? that will come later as the baby steps guide the way.

we laughed when russell asked for 30+mil guaranteed yet romo will likely get it. then in 5 years when the next "romo" comes along, $45mil guaranteed won't be a thing at all.

where is that extra $15mil going to come from? you? me? yep. we'll have to buy more shirts, tickets, that $6 beer is now a $10 spot and suddenly it's $200 for nosebleed seats at the new stadium. um...seat. maybe they'll have to put up a way to make you pay to go to the restroom now also.

if not the next $15mil that pushes it too far, what about when we reach the $100mil guaranteed.

where will that $70mil come from?

$60 pay per views. or maybe you can go to your local sports bar and pay $10 to get in and have more reasonable beer and food. (that i may actually do tomorrow) only the bar will have to pay $1000 to get it for replay in that capacity.

it's only a matter of time before football outgrows itself and look at the last % hike in the cap and look at the next few. great, so we can pay more $ now. but in the end the $ value of football does have a cap before the "salary raises" simply can't be met by demand.

the players won't think it fair because the league didn't plan / manage better.
the league won't think it fair the players are asking for more than the league is making.

look what happened to hockey a few years ago. why is football immune from this?

it's not and what i'm telling you will come about. it's a "progression" of things that if not managed it will happen. and since no one will listen to the manager spreading doom/gloom if one is around to say we'll be fine, it won't be fine and who knows. maybe the league itself will bankrupt.

or i could be wrong.

What you are missing in your analysis is the revenue generated by the individual teams. That new stadium in Arlington is going to make the Boyz the richest team in the league.

All these endorsement deals that Dallas has (Ford, Verizon, Pappa Johns, Pepsi, and the grand daddy of them all will be the naming rights of the stadium, I have heard upwards of a $1 Billion deal with somebody like Exonn Mobile).

If prices do escalate, Dallas maybe one of the few teams that can actually feild a good roster and not have to pass along the cost to the fan. Think of the Cowboys as the Yankees of the NFL :)

no. i'm not missing it. i do realize what forever goes up eventually must go down and sooner or later there will simply be a problem in escalating the prices any longer so salaries will either taper off and it will be harder and harder to give the bigger and even more guaranteed $$$.

you seem to want to think the $ will grow indefinately and will just come from "somewhere".

maybe you're right.

i don't think so.

I certainly do. And I also remember Jerry Jones on the Ticket last month saying "...that you get into a situation where you can't afford to put good people around them" (expensive QBs) and it "..can cause coaches to lose their jobs" (Gailey & Campo??) because you can't afford to pay a 1st round pick.

I want Romo to get a good deal, but like Aikman, he can't run down there and catch the ball too, so he'd better be a "team player" and not squeeze out the Witten's, T.O.s, etc., not to mention the D that prevents every game from being a shoot-out, having to be won soley by Tony...

We Are $12M under cap and it goes up next year. We are not close to where the Cap put us 13 years ago. I'll take 3 more super bowls and deal with Cap issues in 5 years. We are here because of 4 years of Parcells GM calls. Jerry, just pay Romo and not out cute yourself on another baseball player QB - "prospect". The QC, Hutch, Henson reach of hopeless era is slammed shut.

It's Romo Time!

Berg:

Take a step back and consider you just might be wrong. The salary cap has gone up crazy the past decade because REVENUES and profits are going up.

League survived the Manning and Brady contracts. Heck the Pats built a new stadium and are building as we speak a massive high end commercial mega mall complex around the stadium. They seem ok after paying Brady and Seymour and kept team intact.

Look at what JJ is building in Dallas. Look at the stadium he is building! His net worth in the Cowboys is what today compared to 1988?

I don't see a chicken little the NFL is crumbling anytime soon. Popularity of sport is booming.

And I'm really not worried about keeping our team nucleus intact once we pay Romo. It's just not 1997 NFL economics anymore.

Romo is getting paid like the elite QB he is in 2007. Great story and he's taking this team over the top - Book it!!!!!

4-0 here we come today!

Ticket price rising has actually been a godsend here in New England.

20 years ago they were playing in a toilet bowl stadium and you were sitting on tin bleacher seats. Tickets were probably $20-$30. But it was such a drunken ,violent, embarassing scene you would not take a child or woman to event. Fans urinating in stadium and out of control.

Mid late 1990's they started cleaning up crowd and have steadily upped prices to point where its $75-$125 a ticket.
Built a state of the art new stadium in 2002.

The crowd is vastly better and I took my two sons last weekend to the Mossfest and had a great experience.

Oh, and by the way I was #50,000 on the season waiting ticket list and 8 years later my number not yet called. NFL is doing Kay.

Tony Romo is worth every $ he is going to get. He has Namath star appeal and its shining on big D, that has value to JJ branding his Cowboys!
