Project Dallas' top 3 needs in the 2018 Draft

For me, I'll bet it's DE LB and WR

DE- obvious projected need. Even if Taco turns in Bosa, Dallas will need to give him help.

LB- Sean Lee is 30, (I think) and historically had injury issues. Jaylon may be the future but he can't do it all himself.

WR- Dez has been getting injured lately, and is 28. T-Will is 28, and has been given multiple opportunities to prove he can step-in for Dez from time to time. Beasley is 27ish, hasn't had injury issues (knock on wood) but with his age and size, gotta plan on one coming soon.

We still need a safety. Jeff Heath is only good in the minds of Zoners.

DE is still a need, specifically a backside edge rusher.

WR because this is a passing league and you need to add a weapon whenever possible. T. Williams is a decent #2 but if Dez went down, Williams would not be a worthy #1 WR.

I'm looking at Crawford's injury history and salary as a concern. Depth is needed at DE. With Free and Leary departures, Cooper and Chaz, can one of them step up on the OL. Best player available at either of these positions.

Not too concerned about the OL with the current players, question marks or not. There's still 3 All-Pro players on it, the unit is elite no matter which way you slice it.

Finding a nice complementary DE to play opposite Taco would be nice (here's to hoping he buds into a stud)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed about Jaylon Smith, he'll be fun to watch with Lee but Lee is aging and the other players in the unit aren't what I'd consider top shelf.

People might think I'm crazy considering Zeke is lining up in the backfield, but I think finding a good spell back to compliment his skill set is a good idea. 1) to capitalize on how the offense has been build around the strength - the OL - by having a run-first scheme and 2) to extend the longevity of Zeke's health. It doesn't have to be a 50/50 split in carries but McFadden is getting up there and I'm not in love with any of the other RBs on the roster. 1-2 punches at the RB position is a proven thing.

I don't think Witten plays two more years and Rico's not ready. Lawrence may not be here and we don't know if Irving was a "real thing" or if he'll "supplement" himself off the field. Likely we'll know by then if Dez is back to form or not and if Woods can play at the NFL level.

Pass rusher at both DE spots, SS, TE. I don't think we win more than 9 games with a pass rush this year that is weaker than last year's. Plus, with all of the turnover in the secondary, our offense will have to score 35 points per game just to stand a chance. I see us drafting near the middle of each round. That would put us in the running for a Harold Landry, BC, or either Tyquan Lewis or Sam Hubbard, Ohio State. In the 2nd round, I would take another DE, like Duke Ojiofor, Wake Forest, or Dorance Armstrong, Kansas. Maybe grab a SS in the 3rd.

Some questions you have to ask in terms of projecting needs.

1) Are we getting old anywhere
2) Who is likely to leave in 2018/19 as a FA
3) Who will it make financial sence to move on from
A 4th would be " What positions do we not have pedigreed players?". That however that is a wildcard as a predictor

Yes. You never know where we need a DB - this could be a CB or Safety.
But interchangeable with backup QB.

I would agree if we are just looking at the Defense pass rush providing support for the team this year, I think the offense is going to take another step in the right direction and while 35 points might be a lofty goal it will be significantly better and provide support for the defense as the 12th man.
