Brooking was not released. His contract voided, and he became an Unrestricted Free Agent.

Right now, unless Sensabaugh signed for very little money, we'd get nothing next year because we've signed three qualifying players and lost three qualifying players.

Now that Davis signed with KC, I take it we are back in position for a 3rd or 4th for Canty. Is this correct?

As long as he signed for enough money to qualify and doesn't get cut again (like he did after signing with Miami last year).

Apparently, the Arizona Cardinals had TWO defensive linemen named Bryan Robinson on their team during training camp last year. When I was researching a few weeks ago, I disqualified the free agent they signed from Cincinnati because I saw that "defensive lineman Bryan Robinson" had been released at the end of training camp. But I don't know that they had two Bryan Robinsons, both defensive lineman, in camp, and had released the other one.

So, I've changed my projections for Arizona and Cincinnati. Arizona won't get a comp pick for Calvin Pace but will get a net-value pick at the end of the seventh round, and Cincinnati will get a seventh-round comp pick for Bryan Robinson. That also means that St. Louis will not get a non-compensatory pick. These changes are reflected in the post above this one.

Thanks Adam for your genius, maybe just slightly wasted on mere fans ...

Has VR ever contacted you to quit your day job, and join Jerry's front office? It seems like you would be a huge asset in making the Boys better, especially so, if you were working with official information rather than nipping around the edges with just all you can garner from the Web ..

I remember the great Pro Football Weekly writer/draftnik Joel Buschbaum got offers from teams (Jets? and others) to join them. Have you, and would you?

How big a contract does Dallas need K. Davis to get in order to get the benifit of the monster contract Canty received? As I understand it, right now we've signed 2 FA's (Igor and Sesabaugh) and lost two (Canty and Burnett).

Also, same question for Sensabaugh. Will he count or is his contract close to the league minimum?

They all count as long as they are true free agents and not released ones, for Canty's we just need to have more lost then signed. Money amounts also play a role but we don't have any near Canty's. We also signed Keith Brooking but lost Cory Procter. (FYI-Last season Keith Davis left, was cut, and signed back and that negated his loss. Might have cost us a compensatory pick this year)

ACQUIRED

S Gerald Sensabaugh (UFA signed 3/11/09)
DE Igor Olshansky (UFA signed 3/6/09)
LB Keith Brooking (UFA signed 2/28/09)

PLAYERS LOST

  • [*] LB Kevin Burnett (Signed with San Diego Chargers 3/10/09)
[*] DE Chris Canty (Signed with New York Giants 3/1/09)
[*] G Joe Berger (Signed with Miami Dolphins 2/27/09)
Possible Losses

  • [*] QB Brooks Bollinger
[*] S Keith Davis (expected to be going to KC)
    [*] DT Tank Johnson
    [*] LB Carlos Polk
    [*] LB Zach Thomas
Guys they didn't tender that might also be this type of free agent

TE Tony Curtis (Did not receive restricted tender; now a free agent)
P Sam Paulescu (Did not receive exclusive rights tender; now a free agent)

I don't think Brooking counts toward the compensation picks since he was cut, so not a true FA.

This is pretty much what my projection list looked like as well, Adam.

Brooking was not cut by the Falcons, and he will count in the equation next year.

Regarding Davis, it's not clear yet what the minimum value to qualify will be. If he signs for less than $800,000 per season, you probably can count him out. If he signs for $800,000 to $1.1 million per season, it would depend on how much he plays and exactly where the cutoff point falls. If he gets more than that, he should be safe, as long as he doesn't get cut again.

Didnt Nate Jones sign a multi-yr deal with Miami last yr? I dont recall how much he signed for, but he played in every game and actually notched 3 sacks and a pick. I thought we might get a 7th for him.

11 picks and my bet is by the time the draft is done we end up with 6 or 7 players. Jerry is going to be busy.

I've got another thread in the Draft Zone where I project the Boys winding up with 8 picks, 7 of them in the top 175... I looked at the trade value of the two fifth rounders, the sixth and the two seventh rounders, and figured that Jerry could package them for two early to mid round fifth rounders... of course, they'd have to keep any supplemental picks they receive, those can't be traded...

Nate Jones will not qualify. His contract was way too small ($670,000 per season is all that would count). He also played less than 20 percent of the defensive snaps.
