Promotion and relegation idea

So instead of the worst team getting the top pick and the draft, which is usually the opportunity at a player who could make a major impact and turn the team around, they get kicked to a lower league AND get the leftovers from everyone else the other teams didn't pick? That would basically give them one season to "escape" the UFL and get back to the NFL so they could actually attempt to improve.

It's a fun thought exercise, but as others have pointed out there is no way this ever happens.

Or maybe have the drafts as lotteries?

Let's be honest, the Carolina Panthers hardly resemble anything that an NFL team should look like. In most sports leagues in other parts of the world like Europe or even in the American Football league in Japan (X-League), they'd be prime candidates for relegation so far. But, how would such a relegation and promotion system work? Well, here is an idea that I have thought of.

I am aware the NFL likes to have a few football leagues in the summer. I think this is where the CFL and a lot of the indoor leagues come in. As for the UFL, which has produced legitimate talent, I think their season should be moved to during the season. Their regular season games should be played on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday evenings, and Friday evenings. This keeps them out of the way of NFL games and allows for daily football games between the NFL, UFL, and college football. Their championship could be the Sunday between the conference championships and the Super Bowl (and move the Pro bowl back to after the SB). To add to the UFL Championship stakes, the winner of the UFL Bowl would earn promotion to the NFL. The worst team in the NFL would be relegated to the UFL.

Then, for the draft, the NFL would have their draft first. Then, about a week or two later, THE UFL would have their draft. The champion of the UFL who got promoted to the NFL would have the number 1 pick, while the relegated team has the last pick in the UFL pick. This, to add excitement, it would be possible for a team to be newly promoted, like say the Birmingham Stallions who would be an exciting addition to the NFC South, to be newly promoted and win the Super Bowl.

This would probably hurt a team like the Panthers, but they hurt our eyes from having to watch them suck routinely. The NFL is supposed to have the best quality football teams. So, why not relegate the worst team yearly to the UFL like they do in other parts of the world?

No but the NFL should maybe use the UFL as A D league or AAA type deal ..with having rights to its players but allowing them to play in the UFL until they need them and retain their rights ..lots of young payers QBS etc can get valuable experience and the NFL gets a farm league, and the level of play could be better.

It seems like not that long ago the Panthers were in the Super Bowl. They will turn it around eventually....
Yup....enough #1 picks will do that

But like Clev, decades of high 1st rd piks. ....still need the QB
Shoulda stayed with Mayfield, and got better coaching around him

It won't hurt your eyes if you don't watch. Reality is some teams suck....many around here wanted us to tank for a few years, in the hopes of getting top draft picks and rebuild. Others want to win now and go all in....it's true in all sports and in life in general. The Panthers have had some great teams, we've had so e horrible teams....it is, what it is.

yeah people just kind of gloss over Cleveland but the most interesting stat I've seen and people are out here complaining about our 28 years of playoff issues the Cleveland Browns haven't even wanted a division since 1986 Can you imagine that fan base I bet they're not as hard on their team as we are on ours and our team has been relative we're still playing in primetime we're still winning divisions and we're still going to the playoffs on a regular basis that five out of the last eight years.

i'm betting some of those fan bases would trade places with us....

That's not just Cleveland that narrative that been floating around the last couple years that 95 quarterbacks have been drafted since 2016 and only one of them has won a Super Bowl... So if Super Bowls are the goal to win a Super Bowl it's very tough to find the starting quarterback that's going to elevate your team to do so it's about the entire team...

All the evidence I need is the way The Jets the Broncos the Browns these teams gave up trying to find a drafted quarterback and end up going and spending all that drop compensation on getting a veteran quarterback like Wilson Rogers and Watson and then pay them big money to get nothing more than we get out of our own quarterback....

But you're correct teams are expecting like if it's not done by year 3 they're getting rid of all these players mostly quarterbacks and starting over that's just ridiculous.. I mean they want the right now era to happen like it's supposed to be right out of college all the players are supposed to be Super Bowl caliber they don't wanna develop players.... It is happening with Bryce young right now and I think that's sad you can see players like Baker Mayfield that took a little longer if you even want to go to seattle's quarterback, Geno smith were late bloomers,

what if players like

Mac Jones
Sam Darnold

and other end up developing.? teams will be kicking themselves for letting them get away..

Interesting thoughts.
Just remember the Panthers have had more success in the playoffs than we have for the last quarter century.

I doubt that’s even legal. NFL are franchises and you can’t just take them away lol

I would be more in favor of partnership with the UFL, and then have a rights draft for players in the UFL, so NFL teams have control of their rights for 2 years and then they go back into the NFL draft pool after two years.
That’s actually a possible change you could make. Moving an nfl franchise to another league likely violates several laws

That’s a viable option. Basically a minor league system

The NFL is the most popular sport in the US and generates billions of dollars in revenue every year. The trajectory of profits goes up every year. They’re not messing with the gold mine.

Are not UFL Teams franchises?
I would assume. But moving an nfl team out of the nfl would cost them value of the franchise and that’s probably not legal. No team getting moved up to the nfl would mind but owners would have to approve each move, they’d have to meet ownership requirements which require a lot of money. I don’t see how you could possibly do it. Players are different. You could use another league like a minor league system though they’d probably want some compensation for the talent they lose but that could be workable. Taking an owners franchise with the nfl, out of the nfl isn’t possible. How would a team ever build a stadium if there was a possibility they could be moved out of the nfl. How could they sign a FA. How could a lesser league afford the contract the players on that team have? It’s just not possible
