How about just "Skins"
Technically it does away with the slur, but nothing has to change.
Besides, plenty people refer to them as the skins already.
They could keep the logo, nothing wrong with an Native-American on the helmet (since there's no slur).

In all seriousness, I do think this is a good compromise position.

While I'm still not giving up hope for the Rainbow Warriors, I think "Skins" could make all parties concerned happy.

For the helmet, they could go back to this throwback helmet, which I think is pretty sharp:

I've got that problem solved as well... to satisfy that demographic, they can field the first all-gay roster.

That would be hard to do, but I do believe they have a few players that would be popular with that sliver of the fanbase demographic:

Other possibilities:

Washington Swamp Rats (Washington was built on a swamp, you'll recall)

Washington Filibusters (who doesn't love a good filibuster?)

Washington Justice (maybe replace the Indian on helmet with a picture of Ruth Bader Ginsburg)

Washington Veto (they can only be defeated by a 2/3 majority!)

Washington L'Enfants (Frenchman Pierre L'Enfant designed Washington D.C. -- it's also the French word for "child" which seems appropriate for Lil Danny Snyder)

Washington Bills (Buffalo may be outraged initially, until they see the logo they'll be using, which will clear everything up):

Obvious name to me is Warriors. They can keep the logo, colors, and everything. I don't think the logo is offensive, just the mascot name.

Rewrite the song as Hail to the Warriors and move on.

Alright, alright...at least some folks are calling for the Washington @!#SDFS! to be renamed (legitimately or not, that is not the concern of this post)...so...

in all seriousness: if they were to be renamed, what would you suggest? A legitimate NFL name for a (not really, but sorta) legitimate team.

In other words, you have the opportunity to rename the Cowboys' most hated (arguably) rival. What name would you hand to Roger Goodell that actually would have a chance of being accepted?

Maybe the Washington Generals (USFL right?), or the Washington Specifics (OK, couldnt help it...)

but seriously, folks, what would it be?


EDIT/UPDATE: So far, Warriors, Generals, and Braves...

The Washington Generals were always the patsies for the Harlem Globetrotters... I like it as they can be our patsies...

The USFL team was the New Jersey Generals...

In keeping with the military theme, how about the Washington Privates...

How about going with the Washington ******s or the Washington ****s or the Washington Spicks (Or however you'd spell that offensive word)? I mean, after all, none of those words would actually be offensive if Washington was using them they'd be ways to honor those people, and cultures, and sooner or later someone would come along with a study where they interviewed all of 300 people, out of the entire population of those races, and pass it off as a testament that noone in those cultures found those words offensive and in fact those words were never meant to be offensive in the first place. It was our way of being respectful to those people.


That would be a fantastic way to end the racism in this country.
