Psst what about the offense

My only concern for this offense is their propensity to shoot themselves in the foot with penalty killing drives when approaching the red zone. That has been a problem for years and it happened in first pre-season game.

Maybe the exasperation has just cause.
I couldn't say. Football isn't my profession.
I'm excited to see what they do with a formation like that if it's in Linehans book o'plays...

The formation apparently has been observed so it'll probably happen at some point.

I mean....why? The point of putting a receiver in the backfield is to try and get them in space, make something happen. Quick receivers and RB's can dart through the oline and catch the LB's slow footed. I like Witten as much as the next guy but his strength isn't exactly in his agility or his YAC potential. Small gripe, might not even actually be used during the season. I still think this offense will be quite good, as long as Romo, Dez, and Murray stay healthy.

We have rb depth. Murray and Dunbar. Having a 3rd is a luxury most teams don't have. And Randle is showing signs of life in camp. Not to mention Ryan Williams might make it over him (depending on special teams).

I agree Romo's back is a concern. However, the only weakness I see in this offense is back up offensive tackle.

First off, nobody can score enough points to keep up with the defense. Secondly, Weeden has been looking a hell of a lot better than Romo.

But don't let the facts get in the way of the Tony hand wringing.

I've never been called a Romo homer before. lol The only reason Weeden has looked better than Romo is because Romo hasn't played. I saw a lot of dink and dunks last week. Weeden's going to have to pass the ball down the field more.

That's because he playing in a offense designed for Tony who cannot throw the ball down the field, but the offense still has to work on the plays, I would expect to see weeden go down field a bit more with the second unit this week. I just hope to see Romo go down the field also.

On paper pretty legit.

But:
1. Romo back etc we get it
2. Linehan (and Garrett?) calling plays ....
3. No rb depth
4. Injury prone rb
5. Game-Breakers outside of dez? Who gets nicked here and there.

We're kind of taking this approach that well be in shoot-outs and itll Be a wacky season and whatnot but when you put all of your eggs in one basket you can get ****ed.

Pretty legit be a understatement.
the only achilles hell is see is backup at RB.

Yeah. QB and swing tackle are the thin-spots. Though I'm going to be watching John Wetzel closely the next two preseason games and hoping he continues to look good as reports indicate.
Tony's back has never been a huge concern of mine, but it's still the biggest item on the list. He makes everything go. Obviously.

THere was a time in 2012 when dez wasn't putting up big numbers and our offense was constricted into this weird 5-15 dink and dunk radius teams really sat on everything. If romos back isn't right and teams don't fear him our offense can struggle to maintain drives

Exactly.

I have little doubt Romo would play regardless of his health status, but the primary concern is the distance he can throw the football.

As concerned as I am about the D, I am even more excited about the O this season. Here's Sullivan's observations from camp:

Lance Dunbar is honestly Darren Sproles if he can stay healthy. Thing is, he just hasn’t proven the ability to stay upright. Just as quick, though. He could line up in five different positions this year, and Scott Linehan is still tinkering. This is going to be an offense like no one has seen if camp is any indication. Could see Dez in the backfield, with Escobar in the slot, Witten as the H-back and DeMarco Murray spread wide. Interchangeable parts galore. Fun to watch. Everyone seems to be buying in, too.

This defense will put enormous pressure on our offense to be perfect and I don't think they will be a juggernaut, we may have to throw a lot even though we have a great line.
