Looking at our roster and the draft class who do you think will be our punt returner in 2009?

Crayton is Mr. Reliable, but I wonder who could be a difference maker? In the end, unless a trade is made, I think Wade puts Crayton back there in 2009.

well when we have the opponent backed up inside there own 20 it should be Newman.

Newman was a really good return man in college. But college is getting to be a long time ago for him. He hasn't produced that well in his recent efforts at returning punts so I don't see any reason to put him at risk by having him do it. He has had injury problems the last couple of years so lets just save him for the CB job that he does really well. Hopefully we can find some young stud that will run with the reckless abandon that a really good return man has to run with...perhaps Smith.

Please not Crayton. I would try anybody other them him. D. Smith may be the answer. Even Olgetree if he makes the team.

D Lo.

He says they have already talked to him about that job.

DeAngelo Smith talks about being drafted by the Cowboys

Here's some film on him doing that while at Cincy...

Thanks DC.................He looks like a real candidate for the job. Better than what we have already.IMO

I remember reading the Smith said he was taught by his special teams coach to get upfield when returning punts instead of dancing around. If he understands that, he already has a leg up over a lot of would-be return men.

I don't know, I'm aware that Crayton isn't really going to break the big one, but he is incredibly reliabe. I can't think of one time that he muffed a punt or anything of that nature, and even though he looks like he's carrying a loaf of bread, he never really fumbles. I just think I'd prefer him to a rookie at this point.

Did Choice do any punt returns in college?
2 good RB before him so its a position we could risk IMO..

I'm almost positive that he never did it on anything close to a consistent basis.

With his recent injury record I would not let Newman punt return. In fact I wouldn't let him play in any Pre season games... Let the rooks and the first year players get the snaps..
