Come on we don't want Alex Smith basically an older more banged up version of Dak Prescott
The Dak Prescott vs Alex Smith comparisons are extremely silly IMO.

TL;DR - Dak is
  1. More reliable
  2. The better passing QB
  3. The better running QB
  4. The better playmaker
  5. Better at reducing turnovers
  6. And has not been carried by good teams

How so?

Alex Smith is fragile:
  • Despite being in the league for 16 years, Alex has played 16 games only 3 times
    • Dak missed playing 16 games just once in 5 years
Alex Smith does not move the ball very well:
  • Alex Smith did not pass for over 3,000 yards until his 7th year on the league, and only has done so in 6 of 14 playing years
    • Dak has surpassed 3,000 yards in 4 of his 5 years
  • Even when playing a full 16 game season, Alex failed to reach 3,000 yards in 2006
    • Even "Dink-n-Dak" has not failed to do this when he has played 16 games season
  • Alex Smith has reached 8.0 passing yards per attempt only twice in his career
    • Dak has failed to reach the 8.0 passing yards per attempt only twice in his career
  • Alex's career passing YPA is just 6.9 ypa
    • Dak has a career passing YPA of 7.7 ypa
Alex Smith has not been great at producing passing touchdowns:
  • Alex Smith did not throw for 20+ TDs until his 9th year in the league, his first year with the Chiefs
    • Alex has only reached 20 passing TDs in 3 of 14 playing years (16 total)
    • Dak missed 20 Passing TDs for the first time in his career in 2020, and that was due to him missing almost 3/4 of the season
  • Alex Smith has failed to have a 4.0 TD% (percentage of TDs thrown per pass attempt), 8 of his 14 playing years (16 years total)
    • Dak has yet to not surpass a 4.1 TD% in his career
  • Alex Smith's career TD% is 3.8%
    • Dak's career TD% is 4.6%
Alex Smith has not been great at protecting the ball
  • When Alex Smith played 9 games or more in his first 6 seasons, he threw double digit INTs every time
    • Dak has been able to throw less than 10 interceptions in a 16 game season at least twice in his career
  • Alex Smith's career INT% is 2.1%
    • Dak's career INT% is 1.7%
Alex Smith has rarely been proficient:
  • Alex Smith has had a QB Rating of 86.6 or more in just 7 of 14 playing years. He reached a QB Rating of 96.9 in just 2 of 14 years.
    • Dak's worst QB Rating is 86.6. Dak's second worse year he had a rating of "only" 96.9
  • When it comes to QBR, Alex has matched 55.2 or better in just 4 of 14 years, and never had a QBR of 69.9 or better in his career (he reached 65.1 twice)
    • Dak's two worse QBR rating years have been 55.2 and 69.9. Otherwise Dak has had QBRs of 71.9 or more
Alex Smith is not nearly as mobile and/or a threat on the ground
  • Despite starting in 167 games and having 580 rush attempts, Alex has amassed
    • 2,604 rushing yards at 4.5 ypa
    • 15 rushing TDs
    • 168 1st downs
  • Dak has started in 69 games and has 259 rushing attempts while reaching
    • 1,314 rushing years at 5.1 ypa
    • 24 rushing TDs
    • 107 1st downs
Alex Smith has failed to lead talented teams to the Super Bowl
  • Alex has a QB record of 99-67-1 or a 59.28% winning percentage
    • Dak's QB record is 42-27-0 or a 60.89% winning percentage
  • The above is not a huge difference, but...
    • Alex has been on 2 teams that reached the Super Bowl not long after replacing him with another QB
      • Yet Alex has a playoff record of 2-5 with some pretty good teams
    • Without Dak (or Romo), the Cowboys are unable to even produce a winning record, let alone make the playoffs or even the Super Bowl
      • Yet Dak has been able to have a playoff record of 1-2 on teams that would be picking in the Top-10 every year with a Alex Smith-like QB

So ya, excuse me if I don't see the resemblance. I know it has been stated before, but it is just a terrible comparison, to say the least.

No interest. if Dallas chooses to move on from Dak then use the #10 pick and get the best QB you can get. Messing around with old QB at the end of their career is a waste of time.
I agree but it would be a good bridge QB while the rookie learns the ropes. Or being in Dalton or Cam or Fitz as an insurance policy of the rookie struggles.

I've always liked Alex Smith... He's not really a playmaker, but he manages games very well.

Even if we draft a QB, why not bring him in? Don't really want to ride with ol Gilbert as the back up.

Come back of the year is well deserved and a tribute to his determination.

However, his injured leg began to fail late in the season. I dont think he can last a full season in the NFL.

But you like Dak's foot?
