QB Johnson should be cut!

The Cowboys signed Johnson to as an insurance policy as the backup. He has been a solid decision-maker, move-the-chain type in his career. He excelled under Norv Turner in Washington and will be running largely the same passing game under Garrett. He and Garrett are also good friends. That's the good news. The bad news is that Johnson did not show much arm strength in the open practices. If Romo struggles or gets hurt and Johnson is forced into action, then defenses will shorten the field in a hurry because they won't fear the deep ball.

Baker looked improved over his time last year. He showed a strong arm and got rid of the ball quickly. He has good size and awareness. He has the edge going into training camp to be the No. 3 quarterback. Moore was given a $15,000 signing bonus, but he missed almost all of the off-season because NFL rules did not allow him to be in Dallas while Oregon State still had classes. The size of the signing bonus could help him get to camp, but Phillips liked some of the things Bartel did. He made some mistakes, but he showed a strong arm. Bringing five quarterbacks to camp just doesn't make sense, so one of the young guys will be cut.

Zoners, I want you all to get serious a second.

If ROMO gets injured we are history for 07. Johnson cannot get the ball deep and the above report cut from another Zoners post just VERIFIES what I said when we signed this player.

Why cut one of the YOUNG GUNS just to keep this OLD over-the-hill guy?:starspin

GIVE ME SOME VALID REASONS WHY I AM WRONG!

IMO if Romo gets injured, we are history for '07 no matter WHO is the backup. I'd give us more of a chance though with Johnson than I would with Moore or Baker. At least he knows how to play the NFL game and can protect the ball somewhat.

You started off great--history.

Therefore, why does it matter better chance? The better chance for the future is to develop one of the young QB's (who ever proves worthy in S.A.) and let them have the 2 string practice reps......imo our best move for the future.

JOHNSON used to be very good.....that is history!

So what if Romo gets hurt and you have a young kid that has never taken a snap in a game before... Trust me, guys like Romo don't grow on trees. I think you want someone experienced to come in.

Does "because it's your opinion" qualify as valid? I think so.

So you're saying that if Romo were to get injured you would rather go with More or Baker over Johnson and we'd be just fine?

By all means, justify this for me.

Ok lets give you some reason

1.) If Romo gets injured you serious want to put in a guy who hasnt started, or even played in a NFL game in?

2.) Johnson may not be able to get the ball down the field, but we have enough weapons to utilize the short game

3.) If Romo gets injured we're done anyways

4.) we just passed on Quinn, why would we want to play another young kid? If we wanted that we should have drafted Quinn

5.) You are not A GM or a coach. You are a fan. You no nothing other than what the media gives you

Anything else?

brad johnson reminds me of phil simms:

tough as nails
very effective in the pocket
smart

we'll be ok.

i remember countless times too tall and bill bates just obliterating simms and he would get right up and run the next play.

if Brad Johnson continues to stink it up throughout the preseason, and God forbid something should happen to Romo, I wouldn't be surprised to see Bledsoe back as the starter. I would rather have Bledsoe than Johnson

If Romo goes down for just a few games, we'd be FAR better off with Johnson than with Moore, Baker or Bartel. And to me, making the playoffs this season is much more important than developing a third-string quarterback.

Brains trump brawn and trained brains trump untrained ones.

Assuming Romo is out for a time, it may be for a few hours, a few weeks, or months. Without knowing which beforehand, it is only prudent to have someone available to step in with the past training to handle the situation with proven aplomb, even if the arm brawn is not as great as wished. Trained brains can compensate.

Of course, if you assume disaster in any event, you can treat the games as forfeit and use them as a training ground. Is that what you want to do?

The problem with that is that Bledsoe would have to come out of retirement.

And i seriously doubt he's gonna be sitting there, in football shape, with the knowledge of our brand new offense. Waiting on Romo to get hurt so he can play.

There would probably be some growing pains and a small learning curve for Bledsoe, but our offense isn't going to change that much from last year. IMO it's gonna be a combination of last year (Sparano) mixed with some new packages (Garrett)

I guess you missed the part

where he is RETIRED

Bledose will not be in football shape. He was already un able to move around, and do anything but throw INT's when he WAS in shape. IT makes no sense to bring him in OUT of shape. IF you don't like brad, there is no way you can like Bledsoe. Or did you miss the countless INT's he threw to end our games?
