I am no fan of Brad Johnson. However, he is our best insurance policy at this point should something happen to Romo. There is too much at stake to tank a season if Romo goes down and throw Moore or Baker to the wolves.

I agree 100 percent with you.

However, why not look at FA's, cuts, waviers, Culpepper, etc.....opps, did I say Culpepper? :starspin

Are you saying that Garcia has a weak arm? Did you concider how well he moves in the pocket? Accuracy? etc......

Do a poll on the Zone and I bet 80 percent of the Zoners would pick JEFF GARCIA as our backup over JOHNSON! :bang2:

Accuracy, you mean like how Brad Johnson has completed a higher percentage of passes in his career?

We would have to trade for Culpepper. No one else worth a spit is a Free Agent at the moment.

Yes, one of your anonymous rookies could do this...

"He is best known for leading the Buccaneers past the Oakland Raiders in a 48-21 rout during Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003 where he threw for 2 touchdowns and over 200 yards.

Brad has one of the top 20 career passer ratings in NFL history. Johnson holds a 67-44 career record as a starter, currently the 3rd best win-loss ratio among active QBs with over 50 starting games. He has also connected on over 60% of his passes for the last 12 straight seasons, the first quarterback in NFL history to do this"

I share your concern Crazy...

I was all for the Brad Johnson signing but if he can't throw it 5 yards without it hitting the ground...than no game plan will work with him in there and there for the younger ones would be a better option.

Now if the reports are an exageration and he still has a bit of an arm left in him than he is by far the better choice.

I think too much is being made out of the signing of Johnson.

I think too much is being made out of the "weak arm" reports.

This guy is a winner.
He has had recent success with his Vikings teams. They fell off in the 2nd half last year... but the WHOLE team did.

Brad can be smart during the game and that is invaluable. Better than some young kid trying to make a play with little to no NFL experience.

so if romo is out for 2-3 weeks, and the cowboys is in a tight race for a playoff spot

would you want

a proven, winning veteran

or

bunch of *talented* undrafted, free agent rookies who have never taken a NFL snap

to lead the cowboys during those 2-3 game stretch for a playoff spot?

let me ask you this question before I answer yours...

would you want the Sammy Baugh, Sid Luckman, Otto Graham's of today taking snaps for the cowboys for 2 or 3 games with a playoff spot on the line... probably not...why...probably because they are past their prime...it happens...and if it has happened with Brad Johnson would you still prefer that "winning vet" like Sammy Baugh..etc...

Brad has one a Superbowl, so he has history of winning.

He could manage the offense and minimize mistakes.

Players I imagine would respect a superbowl winner more than a rookie nobody.

He does not take sacks as well, so further illustrates his good decision making, as far as turnovers are concerned.

He played under Garrett and there must be a confidence to have brought him in.

7th rd pick........would not kill us.

And if Lord forbid something happen to ROMO........we would still have a chance with this guy.

OK, I give you props for this HISTORICAL research.........Johnson USED TO BE a very good QB no doubt.

My concern is 07 season--thanks

I agree with you, however, I have read numerous reports coming out of Valley Ranch and whew......they are all BAD news regarding the early QB performance from Johnson.

Do we all remember: It was a YOUNG ROOKIE QB who put Johnson on the bench in Minnesota......right?

Zoners, I want you all to get serious a second.
:starspin

If ROMO gets injured we are history for 07. Johnson cannot get the ball deep and the above report cut from another Zoners post just VERIFIES what I said when we signed this player.

Why cut one of the YOUNG GUNS just to keep this OLD over-the-hill guy?:starspin

GIVE ME SOME VALID REASONS WHY I AM WRONG!

We don't have any YOUNG GUNS besides Romo.

Bring back Drew Henson.

I hear Quincy Carter is available.

He won games for us.

10-6

Romo took us to 9-7 last year.

Do the math.

Romo < Carter.

Yes, I believe one of them is a better option then old/slow Johnson. :starspin

Did you believe ROMO could not beat out Bledsoe last year? I thought ROMO was do a better job and he did......I was calling for Bledsoe to be benched for ROMO, but I kept supporting Bledsoe because he was our starter.

Romo had been with the team and practicing the same system for three years and four training camps when the season started last year. None of the young guys will have that type of experience going into the season this year. Brad won't have that much experience in this specific system, but he has tons of NFL experience.

Johnson also knows what it is like to be a back up. That is huge. Someone like Bledsoe does not know how to prepare when you only get a few snaps in practice. Johnson does. We don't know if the young guys do. Romo needs as many snaps as possible because he is still an unexperienced QB and this is a new system. That won't leave many snaps for other young guys.

It is only June 15th. This is not a time for cutting Brad Johnson. At this point he is the best 2nd option. That doesn't make him a good option, but the best the Cowboys have right now. Maybe that will change during training camp and pre-season. Jerry Jones has shown he is not afraid to cut QBs based on poor pre-season performances(Tony Banks and Johnathon Quinn).

I am not worried about Brad Johnson. Not because he is great or something, but because he is only the back up QB. If Dallas or any team is having to play the backup QB for any significant amount of time it is not a good thing. There is still more concern about the starter. Romo for all the good he did last year is still an unknown.
