QB'S rated

I don't see it. He's recovering from a couple torn ligaments, and missed nearly a year. The games that I've watched this year he looks every bit as good as last year, but the team has taken a step back and his protection is nowhere near what it was last year. I try to be fair when judging him, but I was a big fan of his when he was in college, and also a big critic when Jerry didn't go get him in the draft.

Carson Wentz is doing things no quarterback has ever done. And he’s doing it coming off an ACL injury that ended his 2017 season, eliminated his 2018 preseason and kept him out of the first two games of the year.

Wentz goes into the bye week having completed 71 percent of his passes for 1,788 yards with 13 touchdowns, two interceptions and a 109.6 passer rating in his six starts.

The dude is a human stat machine, so let's take a look at the numbers!

1. Wentz on Sunday in London extended his streak of games with at least one touchdown and one or fewer interceptions to 21, tying the NFL record set by Matt Ryan of the Falcons over the 2015 through 2017 seasons. For the sake of comparison, the next-longest current streak is Philip Rivers’ nine-game streak.

2. When the season began, Wentz ranked 36th in NFL history in career completion percentage at 61.5 percent (minimum 1,000 passes). Just six games later, he’s moved up to 18th at 63.3 percent.

3. Wentz has completed 66 percent of his passes in all six games he’s played. Only nine quarterbacks have ever had a longer streak of consecutive games completing 66 percent of their passes.

4. He also increased his career touchdown pass total to 62, fourth-most in NFL history by a quarterback in his first 35 games, behind only Dan Marino (81), Kurt Warner (75) and Matt Stafford (65).

5. Wentz against the Jaguars became only the second quarterback in NFL history to fashion a passer rating of 115 or higher in four straight games with 30 or more pass attempts. Peyton Manning did it in 2012.

6. Wentz is one of only three QBs in NFL history (minimum 1,000 career attempts) who’s averaged fewer than 1.9 interceptions and more than 4.9 touchdowns per 100 attempts. The others are Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.

7. Wentz is the first QB in NFL history to open his season with six straight games with 66 percent accuracy, at least one TD pass and one or fewer interceptions. Only Drew Brees has ever had a longer streak within one season.

8. In his first 35 career games, Wentz had 27 games with at least one touchdown and one or no interceptions. Only Russell Wilson (29) had more. Among those tied for third is Nick Foles with 24.

9. Wentz’s 109.6 passer rating is highest in Eagles history at the midpoint of the season. The previous high Michael Vick’s 105.3 in 2010.

10. Wentz is riding a streak of 20 consecutive games going back to 2016 with a passer rating of at least 83 going. The only longer streaks in NFL history belong to Manning (24 in 2012 and 2013) and Rivers (22 from 2008 through 2010). The longest previous such streak in Eagles history was seven games by Vick in 2010 and Donovan McNabb in 2006.

In an exclusive interview with Cleveland.com, Jackson was asked if he wanted the Browns to draft Wentz in 2016:

Oh my gosh, yes. Did I like Carson Wentz? Hell yes. He did something that no other quarterback did. I give them three minutes to memorize the book and put on the (white) board. He put it all on the board in two minutes and 48 seconds. I've never had a guy do that ever in my coaching career.

But the plan was never to take a quarterback that year. It was all about trading back to get picks. If you're doing that you've got to pick the right players.

We’ve heard these stories about Wentz before. It seems like a bunch of teams have similar stories about him from that pre-draft period in 2016. The Eagles had the same impression … that’s why they prioritized moving up to get him.

The Browns ended up with a whole lot of players from the trade out of No. 2 in 2016. Like, a whole lot of players. PhillyVoice broke it down earlier this year:

As a cowboy fan when judging Wentz I find it always helpful to see what other people say.

Blue the Baptist.

The last four games Dak is proving people wrong with a 96 passer rating. Now, as was easily predicted, the narrative has changed. If he goes 4-0 in the next 4 and keeps up his passer rating it will change again.

Fans are dug in against him. That won’t change. See Tony Romo’s fan support.

Yeah, Dak is turning professional football on its ear with his play.

The football world has never witnessed a QB carve up defenses to the tune 8 TDs/4 INTs, < 200 yards per game.

Let me explain the narrative and what that means.

The narrative is that he is terrible. That he’s not a starter in this league. 96 passer rating is pretty good for a starter. Also, since he’s also a running QB his running yards and td’s should be considered. IMO.

There’s been an improvement. If he continues and wins some games the narrative (see above) will change again.

This is what happened with Romo and is a symptom of having a large fan base with its fair share of self hating fans that are rarely happy.

We will see if he can be our QB of the future. The last 4 games he’s played well and that’s promising to me.

Seeing as though Dak is amoung the leaders in QB sacks and hits and he plays with the worst TE/WR group AND has to overcome the idiots running the offense, I would say he is doing pretty good.

Then why even sign Earl Thomas next off season?
I mean we were so close to winning those 3 games as you said , so why even upgrade the safety position? Seems like we could do just fine without a pro bowl safety..

Why even trade for Amari Cooper?
I mean , we almost went undefeated with Hurns and Thompson right?

Do you see how dumb not trying to upgrade a position is?

Why so many people are ok with bad QB play but demand our OLine and WR corps to have top notch talent is beyond me..

The post was about Dak. Whether or not the defense should be upgraded or Cooper should have been traded for or not isn't part of the discussion, I'm just saying if Dak improves more wins should follow, since the games are mostly close....

20th, bit high but we would need him to take a big leap to 250ish passing yards a game to make the play-offs.

He has 199.3 yards/game in the wins this year.

The average yards/game is actually higher in the losses.

Sounds like a bus driver to me

National media claim that Aikman was a bus driver compared to QBs like Farve and Marino.

Aikman won 3 Super Bowls. Farve/Marino combined for 1 total Super Bowl win...

he rates where he rates. i'm not a dak fan at this point but that doesn't mean he won't turn it around and / or that i am just being overly critical. the things i want to see him work on i'm not sure he's got naturally which will make it difficult for him regardless of whether or not he learns it.

reading defenses. romo was a natural. when you listen to him talk you can better understand the entire field was wide open to him, allowing him to freelance some. i don't think dak will be as good at that. to help dak it has to be timing and teamwork moreso than it was for romo.

in the end, you are what your record says you are. :)
