Trade possibilities for Quinn to the Cowboys. How do you quantify Quinn the player. What is he? What isn't he? What's his floor, ceiling, and likley level of play?

Pass rush specialist. Solid but not gamechanging anymore. Poor VS the run. Walk year for him, so we may get more production then he has the past few. His ceiling is 10 sacks. 6-8 is more likely

His ceiling would be what the Broncos got with Ware after he left here. His bottom would be what the Eagles got out of Long. He’s a solid player. The compensation would probably be a 4th or 5th since the Dolphins are willing to pay a large part of his salary just to have a team take him off their roster. They’re rebuilding and it’s obvious they’re tanking.

Is this another Bash Tank Lawrence thread? Where no matter what anyone says, you try to find a way to criticize that player?

He's an edge rushing specialist. I think he's better then anything you are likely to draft this year so two year bridge, if you do a good job drafting a pass rusher or two this Off Season and last.

He is nothing, but with Rod he will be everything.

He only has 1 year left in his contract unless they agree to a deal

He is a RDE, so he would replace Randy Gregory's production and that is what they seriously need at the moment. Miami is talking about paying a lot of his salary, so he would also be cheap. Checks all of the boxes.

Vet DE that the Dolphins do not want to take a complete cap hit on next season. Would feel an immediate need for us as a rotational guy; considering we may be with out Gregory. Gregory got us 6 sacks last season and I believe Quinn got 6 sack last year as well. Ceiling to me is that he will give us something similar to Gregory last season; of course he may fall short of what Gregory's ceiling would have been this season with us. Floor is he starts to taper off a bit in his 9th season; but depending on how much the Dolphins are willing to help with his salary it may not be an issue and create snaps for our younger pass rushers.

Ceiling is a huge rebound year playing under Rod in a system that fits him totalling 12 sacks. Floor is a somewhat inconsistent season totalling 7 sacks. Rod squeezed 7 sacks out of George Selvie for crying out loud.

You definitely need Lawrence on the other side and healthy to make this work.

He's a 28 year old(more than one full year younger than Von Miller)
Right defensive end
He's a former 1st round pick(14th overall) who was traded to the Dolphins for a 4th round pick and a 6th round pick swap during last year's offseason.
He was placed on the IR on December of 2015 and 2016.
He's played in 111 of a possible 128 games for his career.
He's known for his quickness, and had a 4.62 40 yard dash at the combine.
He has 69 career sacks in 92 career starts.

In his last four seasons of "slowing down" he has still averaged one sack per 1.875 starts, which is a pace of 8.5 sacks per season.
In his one playoff game with the 2017 Rams he had a sack and three solo tackles.

Yes, this isn't a replacement for Tank. If anyone is thinking that they are sadly mistaken. Tank is a top 2-3 DE against the run and probably top 10 as a pass rusher. You just don't replace that easily.

Much more likely a stop gap to protect us if Gregory is gone most of the season. He immediately becomes the best true pass rusher on this team. Give us a little time to develop Armstrong too....can split some snaps there.

Since it is likely a one year rental...I can't see us paying more than a late rounder for him....and in Miami's case anything is better than nothing. Miami has just paid a roster bonus of 1m, so that is their only dead money in letting him go. They really don't have any pressure in this case....if they have to they can just let him go. I am gonna guess he doesn't have a no trade clause so he may not have any say in where he ends up. Not sure why Miami would offer to pay some of his salary..doesn't make sense unless by doing so they think they can get a much higher pick than they normally would.

He is only 28. Had some great years early on. Miami has been a wasteland so last year is a toss out. I think he could be a 6-9 sack guy in a specialist role. Big addition if it happens especially given Gregory. I also think it allows Dallas to focus on DT in the draft which I think is more important.
