Question for AdamJT13

I'm more interested in the implications of cutting Flo's overpaid, underachieving behind.

Well, since most contracts are backloaded/ or steadily increase after each year, I think we could extend Roy and Witt and still sign a few key FA's (Archuleta) without immediate ramifications. However it may put us in a precarious situation down the road when the newly acquired FA's and Roy and Witts contracts get into theit heavier years monetarily speaking simultaneously. IE Commanders

why would you want us to sign ARchuleta, the lesser Roy Williams? I think we should keep all our key FAs and spend minimally on FAs, and rely on the draft to plug holes, maybe sign one of the FS on the market, such as Lance Shulters

I think the better question here is what is the deadline to use this year's cap money to extend these guys? I know we can sign guys to use this years cap money but I'm not sure exactly how it works and how the deal has to be structured.

We'll likely give Witten a deal like Heap got - 6 year, 30 million with 11 million as a signing/roster bonus. If we could use our extra cap money this year for 6 million of the bonus, we would save 1 mill a year on Witten's cap charge each year.

extensions done during the season, are taken out of this year's salary cap, not next year's

I like Archuletas game.

Hes better than Davis on coverage, and so far, Davis has not been our downfall even though hes been so so overall.

BTW Roy is not that bad in coverage

WG has a very soft heart. Trust me when she was slapping Juke99 it hurt her more than it did him.

That's a poor comparison, reliable sources said Juke LIKED it... and of course, with a head that hard, poor WG would have had to at least bruise her hand...

We don't have a "reliable" source in the entire Zone membership. Well maybe Dale but he's too young to witness such stuff.

Roy and Witten won't be free agents until 2007, so there's no hurry to get them signed. I certainly wouldn't expect it until after the CBA is extended, so that their bonuses could be prorated over a longer period. We'll have plenty of cap room next offseason, and if we do sign Roy and/or Witten to an extension, we can structure the deals to have minimal cap numbers in the first season and leave us as much room as we want.

Isn't Witten a restricted rights free agent next year?

Only if we want him to be. The Cowboys have a club option for 2006, at the same amount as a first-round RFA tender. I'm sure that's what we'd offer him anyway, but he wouldn't be able to talk to any other teams. So if we don't give him a long-term deal before then (which I think depends on when the CBA is extended), I'm sure we'll just exercise the option.
