Question for Stephen Jones: How's the grand plan going?

Upun the CBA agreement Stepen Jones is quoted as saying: "We've been ready to go four different times." "Now it's time to get after these free agents. We got [the CBA] done and we know how much (money to spend). It's time to go to work." "You've just got to be prepared," Stephen Jones said. "And I know we are."

So with today's seemingly unusual signings - just re-signing Gurode and some no-name Detrioit Lion Guard - I'm left wondering if free agency is going just as Stephen Jones (and Dallas) has planned it thus far, or if other teams are just sweeping up the players we've targted out from under us.

Without being an insider it's hard to know for sure. But as an outsider, so far this seems like free agency two years ago where we sat around and did nothing while other teams inked some darn good players we could have benfited from signing. I'm getting visions of "Dat Dude" all over again, and it's scaring me. :laugh2:

I'd bet the plan was to sign Ayodele and Longwell....that hasn't happened.

Better just sign Vinatieri while we can and start thinking about other OLB Prospects just incase.

Yes, I understand that. I do get te feeling Kosier was a guy we were targeting. But honestly the signing doesn't really impress me. And I'm left wondering if we're just not being aggressive enough. If that's the case then we'll end up going to plan-B: last-resort signings.

Every year, a number of free agents the Cowboys had an interest in sign early, before they get a chance to make a pitch for them... rest assured that the Cowboys have a plan B for each position, and probably a plan C...

Which is not to say I'm not worried about the kicker situation... if things keep going the way they are, the Boys are liable to have to spend about a 5th round pick to draft one of the better college kickers coming out...

I think all this frustration stems from the lack of info from VR right now. They aren't telling the media who we are talking to. It seems every other team is very open about who they are trying to sign,, and that makes us look like we aren't doing anything.. I am about to go crazy here myself.. but just have to relax.. smoke'm if ya got'm,, its going to be a long weekend.

before we go into full-on Chicken Little mode, let's see what tomorrow brings. I was excited to hear SJ talk about being aggressive and "we're ready to go", but we don't know what their plans are. Not getting Longwell disappointed me, but if we can get Vinatieri, everything will be fine regarding our kicker situation. Remember, Kosier is a guard, but can play RT. He may be coming in to help Petitti and can play guard in case Larry gets hurt.

Adam V for sure.. coleman i think is a good chance.. along with the LB they been courting all day. Hartwig would be super.. but not sure he is still on the Radar with the re signing of gurode.. that would give us 3 Centers.. we def need to get a true OT

paying an unknown such as Kosier, the same annual salary that we're paying Flozell Adams, on the 1st day no less, is pretty aggressive to me, but that's just MO

that also speaks to what kind of player Kosier is, and how he's regarded in the NFL

all they have to do is look at who's made moves, and not even a quarter of NFl teams have signed people, in fact, some of the moves today were teams re-signing players, but alas, this reaction is far too commonplace

I'm just making the point that our early-going at free agency does not seem to match Stephen Jones' comments - which sounded like we'd be more agressive than what we've shown so far. So to question whether or not the plan at Valley Ranch is going as planned is valid. If someone is privvy to some inider info regarding this please post it. Thanks!

The only player I'm disappointed we didn't sign is Longwell. I wanted Bentley, but knew we wouldn't pursue him.

you have to remember, the decision of who goes where, is largely up to the players, and they have a few other visits scheduled, for all we know, we could be the most aggressive team out there, but who we're talking to, may not be biting just yet...the Free Agent period ends July 22nd, we have time

I've said this myself many times before, if we do nothing else but sign a quality kicker, I'd be a very happy man, anything else and another great draft would be gravy
