Question for the Dak Detractors

You do realize Goff and Wentz were 1 & 2 picks in the draft. All scouting had them as clear top QB with high ceilings.

Dak was a low end QB with a low celling.

Funning thing is all the scouting reports on all 3 of these guys are pretty accurate.

This is pretty much Dak even in his 3rd year. :

Accuracy on intermediate and deep throws dropped sharply. Pocket poise has been compromised. Hyper aware of pressure around him and lacks awareness to slide and find temporary shelter to make throw. Concern over pressure too often trumps ability to get through progressions. Must speed up the pace of his reads. Footwork is a mess. Slight stride onto stiff upper leg with little weight shift. Restricted follow through and too often tries to muscle throws with upper body. Throws to target rather than leading or throwing them open on short/intermediate throws. Too respectful of underneath coverage and must be more willing to challenge the defense. Needs to improve anticipation.

Hard to find an NFL comp for Prescott because he's built like Donovan McNabb, but lacks McNabb's ability and polish. Prescott has NFL size, mobility and enough arm, but the tape shows a player who must improve his mechanics, poise and quickness through his progressions if he is to become a full-time starter in the NFL. There are absolutely draftable traits and upside, but he will need extended work to smooth out his flaws. Until then, a team would be wise to utilize him on short-yardage packages.
Brady was a 6th round pick, Romo was undrafted. Who cares where someone is drafted and it damn sure shouldn't allow excuses for players depending on where they were drafted.

Wentz is not better then Dak. Dak has carried his team while Wentz needs a perfect situation around him to be competitive.

It’s easier to upgrade all the pieces around a QB over the QB?

Not sure about that. And how is upgrading the “conditions” cheaper?

Yes, much. Finding a talented WR in rounds 2-3 is very doable. Same goes for a TE. Even a vetera RT costs little compared to what it would take to move into the top 5 for a legit shot at a franchise QB. And even then it’s 50/50.

Trying to upgrade from Dak with our 2nd rounder would just be wasting a pick.

What about Alex Tanney !! lets give him a shot, he is cheap and could be bkup or starter.
He can throw the ball.

If you want to know how a QB is doing - Average Yards Per Pass Attempt is generally the most reliable stat column.

The guys in the nines are killers - the guys in the sevens are dragging their teams down. Guess where Dak lands?

2019 WR
ACooper......Gallup.....Beasley/Austin.....NBrown.....CWilson.....Draft/FA

TE
Jarwin......Schultz....Gathers......Draft

Not a gigantic hole by any means

You’re kidding me right?

Stop me if you’ve heard these excuses trotted out for Dak:

“He just needs better coaching”
“He just needs to be used right”
“He just needs better receivers”
“He just needs better play calling”
“He just needs a better OC”

This. Can you imagine all the crap Dak would get if his back up won the SB and then Dak gets his job back only for the Cowboys to look as bad as Philly does right now?

Half of his board would march on Irving.

It's a mental thing. They simply hate Dak since Dak unseated and forced into retirement their hero.
Couldn't agree more. I looked Romo and defended him but his time was up. Injuries and the play of Dak forced him into retirement. Same thing with Aikman and his concussions, although we didn't have a Dak coming in behind him

Best option is to sign a veteran FA to a short term deal 2-3 years. Fitzpatrick, Bridgewater or similar at reasonable money - Fitz is currently on 3.3m.

2019:
Newly signed Vet and Dak compete in training camp to be #1 and #2 QB. Play the best of them. Keep under constant review - swap them around if the #1 has a slump.

White and Cooper compete for #3 QB.

2020:

Let Dak walk. Draft a QB in 1st round. Vet is retained as mentor/temporary starter/#2 when 1st rounder ready to start.

Dak is the future. Jerry is going to extend him in offseason. For better or worse. End of story.

This is our destiny with a dysfunctional organization trying to win without a great GM, HC or QB.

I’m amazed we’re as competitive as we are with our leadership. Of course this year being in the worst division definitely helps.

The Cowboys have been talent dependent since Jimmy left except for a few years with Bill. We will go as our talent goes.

For years we had a QB attempting to elevate a lesser team around him now we have a better team trying to elevate a lesser QB. Maybe the results will be better? We’re going to get a few more years to find out.

I would let Dak play out his rookie contract.
I wait to see if there are any good QB prospects in the 2nd round of upcoming draft.
If I dont draft a QB in the 2nd round I roll with the same guys we have now. No sense in bringing in Fitzpatrick or Bridgewater I dont want retreads!
I go into the following draft looking for the top QB available and I use Zeke and draft picks to move up and secure the future franchise QB.

Arent you tired of seeing Dallas with 2nd tier QBs.

i personally would sink or swim once and for all with dak in 2019. get him an OC as soon as the season ends and they can work together all off season. let's take the playcalling and scheme out of the equation. put him in the position to succeed or fail with some finality. if you have a vet, and he beats out dak or we keep this scheme and we do just enough to be mediocre, you have to trade up in the 1st to get your qb.

if dak isn't the guy, let me drown that year and get my guy. if he is the guy, with a new oc, he will rise and we won't need to think about tua, fromm, eason or herbert.

Wentz has all those things. Still sucks this year.
