This is the thing,

Exactly how long after Brooking was cut did it take Wade to sign him? Let's see . . . . about 5 minutes.

It just doesn't exude much confidence in Carp.

The staff seems reluctent to play him. They don't appear to have the confidence to use him.

Maybe I am seeing this all wrong? But that's my impression.

Since that's exactly what happened, what other impression is there?

I'm not actually, just commenting on CL's thought, but you could say he is a progress stopper for another LB who may actually develop. If at some point you come to the conclusion that he is never going to see the field beyond special teams, then absolutely get the 7th round pick, who may turn into a Ratliff.

I don't know, Wade some comments last year about not giving him a full shake in ST, maybe they do want to give him a shot to replace Burnett. But he doesn't strike me nearly as fast or athletic as Kevin.

Like BigDFan says, I don't think there's any harm in keeping him now, before the season. Who knows, maybe we have a rash of injuries at that position in camp... Maybe they just want to make sure we have other options in place before cutting him.

Personally, I think he's horrible and even a street free agent would be better. I'd cut him now and never think twice about it. Just trying to guess at what they could be thinking.

And BTW, I give it a 65-70% chance he's not on the team on opening day.

And that would be my point.

If there's no chance he plays, why wait another second?

You don't need to wait until the draft to replace a player you know you'll never play.

You can replace him with a guy off the street today if you wanted to.

And give that guy as much time to get ready as possible.

But who knows, maybe he will get a chance this season?

Anyone think come Draft Day we could get a conditional 6th or 7th rounder for him?

Maybe a 43 team?

Not saying this is relevant to any degree, and Im sure many will call me crazy, but its just an observation, even to a lesser degree, a pre-season game.
I was invited to the Broncos vs Cowboys Preseason game, and was as close to the field as one could get without a field pass.

I made it a point to focus on certain players and Carp headed that list along with Hatcher, Canty, and the rooks.

I remember commenting to the other peeps in my group that Carpenter seemed to be playing with a higher motor than I would have ever imagined before. He seemed to be in good posistion on nearly every play and looked like he actually had good instincts and feel for the game.

I was surprised after I had come home form the game and logged on to the board to see all the negativity and bashing on Carp for his lack of performance again in this game. I had come away from the game thinking that Carp just might break out this year and start showing why the staff invested the high pick on him. I was really shocked by the negative commentary, and actually started second guessing myself as to what I had wittnessed first hand.

Sometimes players are gamers, and until they are thrown in the fire, they just will not respond at the level of play expected of them or by them.
Now Im not saying Carp is that guy, or if he will ever shake the bust tag, but Im willing to wait until he has a shot this year before cutting ties.

They are keeping him so they arn't forced to reach for one in the draft. What if Beckwith or Phillips are gone by the third round? They would have to reach for another ILB they arn't to high on.

They are just keeping thier options open, so if they can't get an ILB they like they would still have Barbie.

Maybe they want to draft a couple LBs and be 100% sure the guys aren't complete busts before they get rid of Bobby.

Oh you mean like Barbie?

Do you think he replaces Burnett as our 3rd down LB (and fills in for Brooking)?

I'm really curious as to what the staff actually thinks Carpenter can do to help out in our defensive packages?

I think the knock on Carp is that he isn't as physical as he should be playing inside in the 34. But maybe as a 3rd down cover LB he could do o.k.?

I think the fact that we don't seem to be trying to re-sign Burnett and signed a starting ILB who cannot play on coverage downs tell us what the staff thinks Carpenter can do.

The only thing Barbie's good for is keeping the bench warm for the REAL football players.

I still see i am the only person left on the Carp bandwagon. I love how he still has the soft reputation based on a preseason game with a bad quad yet people ignore his willingness to attack a wedge on kickoff returns. The guy has not had a serious injury and I still do not believe he lost the ability to play he exhibited his rookie year.

I find it interesting that Bill Parcells has tried to trade for Bobby Carpenter twice since he has been in Miami and yet all the fans on this board are negative on this player.

Parcells has a good eye for talent, he said many times that players mature at different rates, and he has shown interest many times for Bobby. So if Miami finally convinces Dallas to trade Bobby, I bet he comes on strong in Miami and Dallas will look like a fool after the trade.

I think the issue in Dallas is the quality of coaching, not the young talent we have drafted over the past few years. Put Bobby on the field and hold him accountable for a high level of play.

Nobody is giving up JACK for Barbie, the other teams watch game tape also.

If we couldnt get a pick for Roy Williams, why do you think we could get anything more than a Dr. Pepper for Barbie???

Carpenter has been here and seen injuries at his position and been through two coaching staffs on defense and all he has in common in lots of inactives and special teams assignments.

So until proven otherwise I think is KP: kan't play.

but I had high hopes for him at one point and would love to be proven wrong now.

:hammer:

know him well do you?

When he showed up on first take this year, in the midst of all the leaks, sources, rumors, etc. Commentating on our team like he was Steven A or something. For a guy that has never made a single meaningful play for our franchise, he should keep his mouth closed.

My guess is they actually get two ILB's and just cut Barbie by TC. I'm sure they are just holding on to him until the draft.

He was a first rounder but more importantly carries Romo's bags and fluffs his posse for him. That's why he gets to stick around this long.
