You mean the 1st round bench splinter cushion? I'd be ecstatic if somebody gave us a 5th round pick for the guy...

I think the fact that we don't seem to be trying to re-sign Burnett and signed a starting ILB who cannot play on coverage downs tell us what the staff thinks Carpenter can do.

I think the biggest thing is that Carp doesn't show much in practice, and being a younger guy, that's an important thing

I think the thinking is that Carp may have something, and that if he's on the field by default, he just might show them why he was a pretty heralded 1st round pick

Personally, I think he's horrible and even a street free agent would be better. I'd cut him now and never think twice about it.

I am with this. He wasn't drafted because he had the most unrealized talent in the first round. He was considered the "safe" pick. Not someone who is ever going to be great but someone who is going to start year one. How many years ago was that. We already sailed past what he could have brought us. This season is about moving on. Stop over paying for mediocrity (or mouth). Cut him rather than let him get beat. I think you gain more in any point you make by what you lose in his talent.
