I just picked up the 103.3 feed while at work and heard Irvin & Kevin blasting JJT over something he said on the NFL Network about TO.

Can someone explain to me what this whole situation was about?

I saw that segment, and while I don't remeber exactly what he said (and I think he called T.O. a cancer, but I can'r recall for sure, sorry), I cam away understanding why I hate JJT so much - and that's because he's just as ignorant, pompous and selfish as I think T.O. is. JJT really did speak quite unintelligently and came off a a thug himself. It was a pretty pathetic segment actually.

No excuse for my mistake involving Irvin

You can't write about athletes and accountability, and then fail to hold yourself to the same standard.

That would be hypocrisy at its best.

So here's the deal: When I did a segment on the NFL Network on Thursday about T.O., I was talking about some of the people I thought Jerry might have spoken to regarding T.O..

I named several people, including Michael Irvin. Then I said I didn't think any of them told Jerry that T.O. should stay.

Of course that couldn't possibly be true because we all know Irvin has been one of T.O. staunchest supporters as has Deion Sanders.

That's my mistake, and there's no excuse for it.

I didn't even realize it until Michael called me this afternoon. Obviously, he was mad as he should've been since we all know he has a soft spot for T.O.

You have to always be careful when you're naming names in the media, which I am. You have to be even more careful on live TV because you don't get a do over if you screw up.

All you can do is admit your mistake, apologize and take every precaution to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Michael needs to GET OVER IT!!! It was no big deal.

Like his reputation is going to be tarnished over this is beyond me!

That's what happens when guys like Irvin and Deion back players like TO and Pacman....you have to be able to face the facts.

He simply stated he believed that Jerry might have spoken with them...not that they did!!!

What this pretty much amounts to is JJT isn't reliable when he quotes 'sources'...

It certainly is a big deal if it hurt his relationship with TO or hurt any other relationships with players who might think Irvin is a backstabber.

I saw that segment and it was pathetic.

The whole piece was JJT's conjecture. They asked him what happened with Owen's release and he went off and said about ten things. Every single sentence started with "I think..."

In other words, he had not one piece of fact that he could say "this is what happened."

I understand he's a columnist and is paid to share his opinions. But that was just a bad lead and set up because they referred to him and set him up to be someone with knowledge of the actual discussions, etc. that went on. SOMETHING tangible and he provided nothing.

And, yes, I was really was embarrassed for him the way he decided to deliver what he was saying as if he was "on the corner." When people notice how incorrectly you are speaking it's a problem. Particularly on a nationwide broadcast and you are supposed to be a writer for a major news publication.

That whole segment should never have aired IMO as he contributed or provided nothing of value or substance, with his material or his delivery.

Is it still Cowboying up when as part of your apology, you go out of your way to state that the person that called you out has a soft spot for TO? Nevermind that you spoke for them, and that's the issue, not that they are so biased they'd never take a stand against TO.

JTT does this everytime he makes an apology or talks about holding himself accountable, he can't just bite the bullet and apologize, he's always gotta sneak some of his bs in.

That's cowboying up?

It doesn't bother me. Does that satisfy the question?

If they have that good of a relationship then it won't matter....Irvin can just call him up and let him know he didn't say it.

It's no big deal IMO....I can't believe I posted twice about this subject.

Most people don't like JJT because he ususally says it like it is. I like that. I don't want to hear Spagnola kissing the brass and giving the company line!

Here's the segment from NFL Network...

http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80f1ade3

And here's the tail end of the interview JJT just did on Irvin's show where he and Kevin Kiley went at it. I was listening, but didn't start recording until I knew they were going to give us something funny, lol.

JJT on Irvin - Mar 9th

Seems JJT thinks he is tighter with Irvin than he really is, lol.

I do think Irvin is being a prima donna here. It wasn't even a big deal IMO.

We're talking about hundreds of players, some that Irvin doesn't even know that might think he's a backstabber. I can't believe you don't get that its his reputation that could have been hurt here.

the apology is fine.

that said Irvin is in the "unlistenable to" category on the radio.

it's a shame he and his on-air dummies/partners/guests can't even complete a cohesive thought! Struggling to speak even a complete sentence without interruption or change of conversation.

JJT is what he is - an average beat reporter. He screws some things up, gets a few scoops just like normal journalists.

I will give him credit for not selling out and turning his column into a tabloid/shock style writing.
